For me, 4 games in is too early to make any snap judgments. I would expect a head football coach to have the same mentality. He could and may have directed a change in the style of play calling, but not changed personnel duties.

This rumor sounds like something from a bad game of telephone.
Oh..I absolutely think this rumor is bullcrap. I'm just saying that if it did happen, then it's because Pruitt has seen enough to know Helton is in over his head, and is doing his job as Head Coach. I sure ain't gonna criticize him if he did..I might criticize him for hiring the guy to start with.

Pruitt seems like a proactive kind of guy to me. I don't think this rumor is valid. Like you said he may have directed a change of some kind that is blown out of proportion..who knows.

I tend to think it's inaccurate, too. However, (and this may have been discussed...I couldn't get through all of the posts on Sunday) I saw where Dave Clawson (ironically enough) fired his defensive coordinator over the weekend. So, this stuff does happen.

Here are the words directly from Basilio. He states clearly that its a rumor.

Pretty Huge Rumor Going Around Among UT's Team:

That Tyson Helton had the play sheet taken from him in the middle of the 3rd quarter during the Florida game. Allegedly Will Friend started calling the plays according to sources at UT that claim this is true. Do I believe it? I want to believe that. Because it would mean that Pruitt saw Saturday exactly what we saw. Tennessee's plan and play calling Saturday was abysmal at best. Giving Helton credit, it does look like he's at least moved the bar with his QB's. Guarantano does look better.

I don't know whether I believe that Helton had his play sheet taken from him, but I do wholeheartedly believe that the love triangle of Friend, Helton, and Pruitt is really strange. Even though Pruitt doesn't do anything on offense, he loves him some Will Friend. Then I hear some people say that it's Friend's offense that Helton is trying to coordinate. I will say this. Whatever they're trying to do, it's not working. And it doesn't have a whole hell of a lot to do with our O-Line. This offense looks like it's poorly conceived. These guys have helped neither their QB nor their O line to this point. Is a two TE set still legal? Just checking

Okay.

I begrudgingly went to see the alma mater play South Alabama with a group of friends. I knew I was going to miss the Florida game, but it was probably for the best. I followed the box score updates sparingly, which was enough to know it was a sh!tshow.

Yesterday, I ignored all sports outside of fantasy football, where my Cam Newton-->Christian McCaffery connection is tearing it up. I did see a couple of things about Sapp getting sent to the locker room, a late hit on JG, and all-around reactionary doom and gloom. I also saw the drive chart that started Fumble, INT, Punt, Safety, Crap, Crap, Crap all the way down.

Only now did I subject myself to the longest "highlight" video I could find available on YouTube. Yes, it did look bad. (It also sounded really bad, who's the boy scout that called the game? He's more generic than the commentators you'd hear on video games. Awful.) I did see some pressure from the DL. I saw some good runs. I saw competence in spots. It was just heavily outweighed by our bedwettings that Florida was able to take advantage of.

This is the first I've been to VN since Saturday morning. I'm not going to read through 1500 posts to catch up.

Unofficial poll, choose A, B, or C if you could:

A) We're only going to beat Charlotte now, and CJP's overall trajectory with Tennessee has dipped.

B) We may only beat Charlotte and maybe Vandy or something from here on out, but it's always darkest before dawn, and we should be patient with Pruitt. We'll still be alright in a couple/few years.

C) Florida was a fluke. They came out ready, and we crapped the bed under a lot of pressure. We still have a puncher's chance against Carolina/Mizzou/Kentucky/Vandy, and may still be able to get to a bowl game. We're on track, it was an ugly game.

Edit:

D) People who answer this are either too mentally exhausted, can't think critically, or think they're utilizing an edgy brand of humor.
C...if we can baby step just one foot in front of the other without crapping in ourselves then sitting in it and pouting.

Mullen's teams play tough. He might be dorky but he doesn't produce soft teams.
You can't make chicken salad sandwiches of chicken ****, well you can but all you end up with is a **** sandwich.
This team is not Jeremy Pruitt's personality..at all. His personality and the mentality of a large number of the players he inherited from Botch is diametrically opposed. You know that as well as I, and have just decided to start your "always wanting something else" early.

You think what Mullen inherited fits him? That UF team is absolute crap too and I haven't started anything. Sorry you can never take a different opinion and jump to conclusions when a "negative" take isn't your negative take per usual.

Whatever..I think this team has a whole lot of quit/football stoopid in it, and that is NOT Jeremy Pruitt.

You've spoken more negatively about the coaching than I have. As far as my wanting stuff early, not sorry I decided on the last coaches before it was cool. If you wanna hold that against me, go ahead but stop making up negativity that isn't there.

Random question but is there any coach that “considered” us that makes you believe we’d be better than 2-2? Leach?

I had always thought that if Leach took the job, then Dormady would have stuck around and thrived in his offense because it was similar to what he played in Texas high school football. Combine that with our WR's, probably the position group strength of our team, and I think the Leach offense would have minimized the terrible O-line play because it would get the ball out quick. That's what Leach has done at his other stops where he can't get SEC-quality linemen. With Leach maybe we win one of the two games we lost, and have a chance at 6-7 wins this year.

All that said, despite the short term success that Leach might have had, I think that Pruitt is a better long term solution for success in this league. I'd love to see Leach coach at a blue blood power where he could get top 10 recruiting classes just to see what his ceiling really is, but my guess is that he wouldn't have much more success over time than Butch did, he'd just get there in a different way, doing more with less.

You were right about Botch...no buts. I just don't wanna get started on this merry-go-round again.

I think JP is a great football mind and given time he will get it done, or at least build a solid and tough team.

Helton MAY have been a mistake, but I'm not going to burn the guy to the ground for a hiring mistake in his first staff. As long as he or Helton rectifies it.

I have no clue. Sounds like a rumor to me. I will say this though. Just looking at the way our offensive has looked through 4 games it looks more like a Colorado State Will Friend offense then a USC Tyson Helton offense. I think the offense has looked that way for every game though. Not just after the 3rd quarter against Florida.

What doesn't pass the smell test though is why would Fulmer/Pruitt bring in Helton for $1.2 million just to have the offensive line coach structure the offense the way he wants. That doesn't make sense to me...... I'll hang up and listen.
