honestly, it could be both. we havne't sniffed elite in 15 years. i do know this, before we do sniff elite again, we're probabl gonna have to get back to the point where 8 or 9 wins a year is the floor. Why? Because you've lowered your standards for UT football or because you think Pruitt isn't a championship-caliber coach? A good hire is one that meets the expectations and goals of the program, so do you think UT can't be an elite program or Pruitt can't be an elite coach. I'm curious.
8-10 wins on a consistent basis is fine. I'd kill to be in that range after the last decade. From a potential standpoint, I think Georgia and Florida are both superior programs to Tennessee in the east. Just easier to win there. Why? I thought the same about him. I thought he was a really good coach who was also really shady. If we're not cheating on Alabama/UGA levels I don't understand why we think we could compete with them.I remember thinking Pruitt was pretty dirty when he was at FSU and UGA. Either that thought was wrong or he’s employing the same tactics here that he did in those spots.
We have like 2 alphas on the entire team. J.J. and Banks. Banks puts the ball on the ground too often but I don’t know why J.J. isn’t getting in people’s grill. As good as trey smith is, he isn’t vocal enough. He should’ve ripped cece’s Helmet off his headWe've had a lot of strong leaders on defense over the years, too. None now, on either side. Four games in and no one's stepping up.
I agree with most of this. Tennessee in reality is an inferior program to Georgia. 90's are an outlier. Outside of the 89-01 period, the Tennessee program isn't as rich in tradition as what a lot of people would like you to believe. Nobody remotely cares about what happened prior to the 70's.A couple of things:
I do think the standards have been lowered. We’ve been objectively bad for 15 years. Not only has that been implanted into the national consciousness because it is the most recent results, but a 15 year run is basically 1/8th of the programs history. That’s a big chunk. If you exclude those 15 years, Tennessee still has an 8 or 9 win average. The 90’s were a peak - and an exception.
I don’t know if Pruitt is a championship-caliber coach. I have my doubts. But I think there is also reason to be optimistic. All told, it’s still much more likely that he’s ordinary than extraordinary. Those are just the odds.
Also I think the reality is that Tennessee has never really had to deal with a very good Georgia program. It hurts us more than I think we can understand. The same can be said for Clemson to a certain point as well.
It doesn't matter if Pruitt has done it or is trying to do it in Knox. If he doesn't have the backing of the university admin and the board then there is only so much he can do. Imo that is one reason we have fallen as far as we have, after Kiffen and Pearl messes the admin wanted TN to play by the rules because the NCAA was sniffing aroundI thought the same about him. On J.J. transferring from OKST

Extremely disappointed that sapp is back on The team. You don't take control of a lockeroom by allowing a player to survive calling the HC a liar to the world. Big mistake
InVOL, let me first apologize to you for some of the things I said, please forgive me, man; also to the rest of VN for burning the place down, all day and all night. I'm VERY optimistic...but, I'm also sick of losing to UF.I've never said there were not issues with players. The problem is if anyone dares question the coaches some of you wet your panties. I've said multiple times there's blame to be spread all around.
If a player plays in 4 games or less he can still use a redshirt if he has not previously. If a player leaves after playing in 4 games or less it counts as him sitting out the season and he can be immediately eligible for the next year at his new school.Someone explain to me how this transfer and redshirt rule coincide. Do they not have to sit out a year when they transfer?
