I'm sure we are, but not sure to what extent. Need to be on UGA, Bama levels. And I don't think we're there right now.
I remember thinking Pruitt was pretty dirty when he was at FSU and UGA. Either that thought was wrong or he’s employing the same tactics here that he did in those spots.

Why? Because you've lowered your standards for UT football or because you think Pruitt isn't a championship-caliber coach? A good hire is one that meets the expectations and goals of the program, so do you think UT can't be an elite program or Pruitt can't be an elite coach. I'm curious.
honestly, it could be both. we havne't sniffed elite in 15 years. i do know this, before we do sniff elite again, we're probabl gonna have to get back to the point where 8 or 9 wins a year is the floor.

we're definitely not close to that presently.

8-10 wins on a consistent basis is fine. I'd kill to be in that range after the last decade. From a potential standpoint, I think Georgia and Florida are both superior programs to Tennessee in the east. Just easier to win there.

I thought the same about him. I thought he was a really good coach who was also really shady. If we're not cheating on Alabama/UGA levels I don't understand why we think we could compete with them.

You just need 30-35 starting quality guys to change the culture and the winning percentage upward. The staff can root out and bench the rest until they are gone. So take care of your freshmen and convert the alpha male gamers in the rest. But at some point they've got to sit the wannabes. They are wasting playing time that could help the freshmen and older gamers develop faster. Going through the motions without buying totally in will produce what we all saw. The lack of execution proved it - guys who did not do what the call dictated they do on O, D and ST. CJP's going to spin it with the media, but there were a lot of quitters on that field Saturday night. It was real apparent.

We've had a lot of strong leaders on defense over the years, too. None now, on either side. Four games in and no one's stepping up.
We have like 2 alphas on the entire team. J.J. and Banks. Banks puts the ball on the ground too often but I don’t know why J.J. isn’t getting in people’s grill. As good as trey smith is, he isn’t vocal enough. He should’ve ripped cece’s Helmet off his head

A couple of things:

I do think the standards have been lowered. We’ve been objectively bad for 15 years. Not only has that been implanted into the national consciousness because it is the most recent results, but a 15 year run is basically 1/8th of the programs history. That’s a big chunk. If you exclude those 15 years, Tennessee still has an 8 or 9 win average. The 90’s were a peak - and an exception.

I don’t know if Pruitt is a championship-caliber coach. I have my doubts. But I think there is also reason to be optimistic. All told, it’s still much more likely that he’s ordinary than extraordinary. Those are just the odds.

Also I think the reality is that Tennessee has never really had to deal with a very good Georgia program. It hurts us more than I think we can understand. The same can be said for Clemson to a certain point as well.
I agree with most of this. Tennessee in reality is an inferior program to Georgia. 90's are an outlier. Outside of the 89-01 period, the Tennessee program isn't as rich in tradition as what a lot of people would like you to believe. Nobody remotely cares about what happened prior to the 70's.

It doesn't matter if Pruitt has done it or is trying to do it in Knox. If he doesn't have the backing of the university admin and the board then there is only so much he can do. Imo that is one reason we have fallen as far as we have, after Kiffen and Pearl messes the admin wanted TN to play by the rules because the NCAA was sniffing around

On J.J. transferring from OKST

Price

That's crazy that he is transferring. He is 6th all time in receptions at OSU, but he didn't like how he was being used this year. That would be a great pull, but we still have to be concerned about the OL and QB. Helton's play calling didn't instill alot of throwing the ball around the field.

Well if you discount the best 13 seasons of any elite program they wouldn’t be as elite of a program as you’d think. What the hell kind of statement is that 😂😂.

If you take out the 1996- 2008 period for Florida their program isn’t as rich in tradition as you’d think 😂😂

Extremely disappointed that sapp is back on The team. You don't take control of a lockeroom by allowing a player to survive calling the HC a liar to the world. Big mistake

I know you were fishing but you have absolutely no idea what was talked about behind closed doors so please just stop

I was discussing this with a friend this morning after being told what happened second hand from a Sapp connection. I wonder if the information Pruitt got was not quite accurate., and he had to smooth that over. Apparently, Sapp didn't refuse to go in the game. He got into a heated discussion with a defensive coach, and then a GA got involved that didn't help matters. It got back to Pruitt. My guess is some players came to Sapp's defense.

I've never said there were not issues with players. The problem is if anyone dares question the coaches some of you wet your panties. I've said multiple times there's blame to be spread all around.
InVOL, let me first apologize to you for some of the things I said, please forgive me, man; also to the rest of VN for burning the place down, all day and all night. I'm VERY optimistic...but, I'm also sick of losing to UF.

I had a big, long post typed out; but, I guess to summarize: I said many times yesterday that the playcalling and personnel decisions were puzzling at times, not good at times. I also said many times that the coaching has to get better. The notion that started this whole mess was the idea Pruitt and Co got outcoached in every facet. I wholeheartedly disagree.

Imo, 6 turnovers that led to 24 pts, and squandered great scoring chances for us and stomped out ANY momentum or rally we had in us, along with the blocking, and not just the OL's, but TE's, H- Backs, and RB's...THAT'S what got us blown out. Wouldn't have mattered what play was called.

InVOL, Go Big Orange, man!

Someone explain to me how this transfer and redshirt rule coincide. Do they not have to sit out a year when they transfer?
If a player plays in 4 games or less he can still use a redshirt if he has not previously. If a player leaves after playing in 4 games or less it counts as him sitting out the season and he can be immediately eligible for the next year at his new school.
