Bullcrap..you didn't like the hire to start with, and waited till you knew you had a bunch of pissed off guys that would listen.

I guess you are ecstatic about the opportunity to stir up discord in the next few weeks.

No, I didn’t like the hire and I’m not going to apologize for that. It’s also not worth it to wait for years hoping we are bad enough for him to be fired, just so I can say I’m right.

Discord? I think you overestimate me. I’m no troll, I’ve just got a different opinion on UT football than you.

Nobody knows if "Pruitt's the guy" or "Pruitt's not the guy." It hasn't been a strong start and it doesn't bode well for the season, but it doesn't mean he'll fail here. Nor does it mean he'll succeed here. What it does mean is there's probably a lot of disappointment, frustration and ridicule ahead for a program that's already had more than its share.

And the truth of the matter is that the odds were always against him. Hiring “the guy” is a crapshoot - as we’ve seen. If he gets us back to respectable (meaning 8 to 10 wins a year) that’ll be good enough for me. He doesn’t have to be Saban to be a good hire.

Remember, Saban went 6-6 his first season at Bama, including a loss to Louisiana-Monroe and the 6th straight loss to Auburn. That seems like a hundred years ago.

The story on Pruitt isn't finished yet. One of the things we owe any new coach is the time to acclimate himself to the environment and recruit his own kids. That includes Pruitt or Butch or Dooley or Saban. It's also something to remember the next time people start calling for a coach's head. The process of recruiting/hiring/incorporating a new coach is painful.

Why? Because you've lowered your standards for UT football or because you think Pruitt isn't a championship-caliber coach? A good hire is one that meets the expectations and goals of the program, so do you think UT can't be an elite program or Pruitt can't be an elite coach. I'm curious.

Granted that I'm making some assumptions here, but your post insinuates that you think we can? If so, please, PLEASE, tell me how it happens. Give me something to believe in, because I can't see how it will happen.

Edit: I'll elaborate a little. I think almost every player that was here last year is completely incapable of living by the maxim that says to put on more steam when the game or breaks go against us. When the breaks go against them, they fold. And I understand that the only way to change that is to get different players that believe they can win regardless of the circumstance. So, for any new player here this year (freshmen and transfers), how does Pruitt get them through these next 2-3 years of losing, A LOT, and not take on the same mentality as the players that were here last year?

A couple of things:

I do think the standards have been lowered. We’ve been objectively bad for 15 years. Not only has that been implanted into the national consciousness because it is the most recent results, but a 15 year run is basically 1/8th of the programs history. That’s a big chunk. If you exclude those 15 years, Tennessee still has an 8 or 9 win average. The 90’s were a peak - and an exception.

I don’t know if Pruitt is a championship-caliber coach. I have my doubts. But I think there is also reason to be optimistic. All told, it’s still much more likely that he’s ordinary than extraordinary. Those are just the odds.

Also I think the reality is that Tennessee has never really had to deal with a very good Georgia program. It hurts us more than I think we can understand. The same can be said for Clemson to a certain point as well.
