And I'm not saying he sucks either. It also takes time to learn to be a head coach. I don't think Tennessee should be the training grounds for head coaches, but that's a subject for another day.

Ok, I'll give you time, if this season ends up like most expect, another winless SEC schedule, and his recruiting takes a hit, does that mean this is year zero?

I maintain his biggest challenge is recruiting given the septic tank stir we saw yesterday.

The bolded part is irrelevant now that he IS the head coach. The search ended months ago. He's our guy for at least 3-4 more years so that argument is a waste of time.

Not sure Jimbo, Orgeron, Gus, Mullen, Saban or any other coach is winning any SEC games with this roster. We all over estimated it's ability, I know I did in a BIG way. My bad, crow eaten. Stars or no stars, this roster is bad. That's what I've determined after 4 weeks in 2018. So it all comes down to recruiting and development of the new guys. I'm willing to give Pruitt the time it takes to do that. And the truth is we don't have a choice in the matter anyway. Might as well shift your focus to recruiting and development of the younger guys. JMO

Honestly, I have no idea on how he feels about Helton. He just said if you're going to run this play or that play, he didn't say those were the plays you should or shouldn't run. So IDK.
But I agree that we will have this staff for a while, so the best thing to do is hope they pan out.

It does sound like he’s saying that there is no way to play call around an OL that is getting utterly dominated for an entire game.

That’s because the guys in charge of the UT athletic dept for the last 15 years or so have been accountants and pencil pushers who’s lone qualification has been the ability to say “Yes, Mr. Haslam.” We’ve finally got a guy that actually knows something about sports as AD now, but he’s not going to undo 15 years of damage in one offseason.

And the people tired of paying top dollar for a decade of bad product aren't going to continue buying what UT is selling. And therein lies the conundrum.

We held on to Butch one year too long, as we did with Dooley. Butch wanted out at the end of the 16 season as did Dooley the year before he was fired. Lesson: Get rid of coaches that don't want to be here, immediately.

Butch wanted out because he saw the writing on the wall. He knew the mess he had created before the debacle 2017 season.

Happens all the time. Jimbo appears to have done it this season. Urban did it with his fake retirement. These coaches would rather bail than deal with what they’ve done.

I live in Florida. Have friends who are Gator , Bama , and Seminole fans. Grew up in Knoxville so I am and will always be all Vol. So I am at their house for a game party. Start of the third quarter they were all asking if they could watch a more competitive game? After the kick off fumble I said yes to a more competitive game. It’s sad that I can’t tolerate the lack of effort from this team. Bright side Peach moonshine helps!

For the life of me I don't understand the philosophy of throwing the players under the bus and not assigning any blame to the coaches, but whatever.

In your opinion what position group has improved since last year, and the four games this year? This is not all on the players.

But we chose to keep them instead of booting them.

I will be watching to see how Fromm looks. I was impressed with his play last year and he is likely in the top three best Qb's in the nation.

I'm a little bit disappointed in Fromm's play so far. His physical skills are what they are, but I thought we'd see him make a mental step forward, since he picked things up so well in year one. Last year he did a good job, but he didn't have to really lead the offense. This year he needs to be that leader and I haven't seen it yet. If that doesn't happen, especially with a couple of OL starters down, our offense will start having problems when we face average and better defenses.

Took mark stoops 6 years but he’s finally starting to win. That’s how long it’s going to take us probably. We’re KY level right now

Im wondering if Helton isnt anyhthing more than a one year stop gap. Maybe Pruitt and fulmer are working on things behind closed doors with the SEC to get Freeze this offseason

I haven't thrown players under the bus, bro. Not said a single player by name. Just said it's clear we need better players to win games. Am I wrong?

The coaches also deserve blame. Of course they do. Did you really expect an overnight rebuild? Don't mistake my offseason positive attitude for ignorance about the current state of our roster and how long it takes to rebuild. Clearly I didn't think it would be as bad as we saw yesterday though. That's the reality check.

WR, RB, QB, DL, and TE have all improved, IMO. Talent is there in the secondary they just need time due to being mostly freshman. OL is clearly the biggest issue on this team. I'm no expert so I don't know how much % of the blame goes to coaches and players but it's clear that the OL needs A LOT of work. It starts with signing Morris, Wright, Lampley, Chris A and McBride. Then developing those guys in the program before they develop bad habits and lose confidence.

Strength and conditioning has also gotten better but that must improve in a big way as well. Again, something that takes time.

Maybe TV didn’t show it, but JG is hurt. The coaches didn’t want him to go back in but the kid wants this so bad. He was almost to tears cause they weren’t going to let him back in.

Say what you want about the kid but he has heart.

I saw where Ainge said same thing I was saying last night. J took that hit and no one made Jefferson pay. I am so anti dirty play but once you do it, then going to end your career if I can. No one took up for our QB last night. I want all of them gone. We didn’t make Georgia pay for Shy either. 4th quarter with the game over, CC should’ve been at ST Mary’s with a torn ACL.

Recruiting and player development. You rebuild a program. Time.
I’m skeptical an Alabama guy who goes out of his way to distance himself from UT’s traditions gets that much time.

You’re right - recruiting is what matters now. This team isn’t making a bowl. In our division, we’ll need top 5-8 classes to stay within fighting distance of Georgia (and I think Florida will get there too). Anything less and we’re losing ground.
