I don't buy that Shoop was talented before he got here and after but just completely forgot how to coach while here. And I don't believe it's a coincidence that our freshmen have the most fire and leadership.

I've resigned myself to the theory of Saban himself wouldn't do much with this bunch. There are unlike anything I've witnessed.
If we resemble a football team by the end of the season, it will actually give me faith in Pruitt. If we don't, I'll go from there.

I’m not debating that the roster is or isn’t bad. It is clearly terrible. But the issue is that it’s not 26 points worse than West Virginia and Florida. And I fully believe good coaching can make up some of that ground.

We have a bad roster and inexperienced coaching. The issue is 50/50.

I confess, I'm a knee jerk reaction type of guy. I'm unable to see the bright spots in an otherwise dismal situation in the moment. (What's weird is that one of my strong suits is crisis management.) Usually after a loss, the next day, I feel better about things. That's not the case today. I'm so ready for basketball season. (Screw you, 85 :p)

Idk sometimes young guys really need a RS year. Throwing guys out there when they’re not yet ready can be damaging to their development too.

With Shrout, I say we stick with the RS plan as long as possible. We may get down to him on the depth chart because of injuries eventually anyway. No use in throwing him out there against a top 10 team any of the next few weeks.

Maybe TV didn’t show it, but JG is hurt. The coaches didn’t want him to go back in but the kid wants this so bad. He was almost to tears cause they weren’t going to let him back in.

Say what you want about the kid but he has heart.

If Helton doesn’t square it away by end of 2019, Hugh freeze might be ripe for a comeback as OC.

We need complete overhaul of OL and need to start young secondary to let them learn OJT.

Amazingly if you checked stats from game, you’d think we beat Florida. Then you factor this.

Guarantano hit from behind (7 points)
Guarantano inexplicably bad pass (7 points)
Onside kick we should’ve had.
Safety where Tim Jordan dances around again (2 points)
Busted coverage 65 yard TD
Boneheaded play of game by Pope after brilliant call (-7 points)
Bad snap Chryst fumble (-3 points)
Fumbled kickoff (7 points)

Then some decent play.

Then Calloway somehow doesn’t recover an onside kick that hits him in stride with no one in front of him and would’ve been 6. It literally went through his hands and directly to Florida player. Next play crap defense and TD run.

Even when keeping points for busted coverage and taking away Calloway onside kick, we gave them (gifted) 33 points.

So, we all need to face the fact that we might only win 1 more game this year. We also need to understand that this was a possibility discussed at the beginning of the season. This year is a wash. Focus should be 100% on recruiting imo

Please he dropped 2 in the end zone (one a tough catch) the other a flat out drop. Tried to get ball to tight end who was being held in the end zone.

I think that's the likely outcome. He's going to have to work like heck to hold onto to the current class and add to it.

Oh, I expected growing pains and a learning curve for our coaches. Scheme changes and coaches with new roles, was a recipe for few wins. Stated my concerns a couple of times but it was pre-season hype period.
Where I really messed up was thinking our talent would still make huge strides and we would be competitive. Maybe that is also on coaches but like I said, given Shoop and Warren doing well with other players and our current staff's success at previous stops, I'm seeing a common denominator here.

I may be confusing the rule with the NFL, but the kicking team can’t advance a recovered onside kick. It’s just recovered.

Agreed.

Our roster has some big holes in it for sure, but having a 1st time HC, OC, and DC is clearly hurting us as well.

DE (think it was Butler) was being held onto like no tomorrow on that play.


I know it’s a moot point and all and we didn’t play well enough to win anyway, but the officiating was the worst I’ve seen in a long time last night. How many PIs or defensive holding penalties did they miss that would have moved the chains for us? 5-6?

1. Clearly, If we do not turn the ball over so many times, the game would have been actually pretty close and our player's mental stability would have stayed intact... Instead, We quit.

2. The fact that an announcer pointed out on national television that we were giving up and citing specific poor, lethargic tackling, is absolutely embarrassing and not acceptable. (Alonte Taylor specifically)

3. Helton BETTER change/adapt the play calling or he can straight GTFO... His 1983 predictable play calling of run up the middle twice and then throw on 3rd, directly contributed to our implosion. Someone mentioned earlier, even Kiffin was able to adapt with what he had-- rolling Crompton out, spreading the D out and giving the offense 2-3 more seconds.

4. Unbelievable that on paper we have so much talent (more than most teams in our division) but you would never know it watching us play.

5. It sucks and isn't really fair to Pruitt this early, but he is already at a crossroads. Does he continue with what he has, or just rip the band-aid off and weed out the quitters/mentality?

6. We will hopefully keep most of our current recruits, but I will be shocked if we pick up any more. You have to have talent in this conference to compete and we will only get guys who just want instant playing time at this point.

7. Play calling was horrific and would have at least minimized a few drives. The JG knee roll and the constant DB mauling of our WR's was unbelievable, especially since we were at home.

8. The only good thing from this is FL will think they are actually good and will continue to play like this and get their ass handed to them over the course of the season...

9. I am a TN graduate and will always be a fan, but until something changes, I am not spending another dime on this program. I am mentally exhausted as most of us are after 11 years of this, and have too many other important personal things going on in my life to worry about this too. Last night I gave away my Auburn tickets. I am not going to go and sit through that and waste more time and money.

Brother, I’m not the coach. It all starts with the OL. They have got to do a better job and by better, I mean “night and day” better.

They have to get better in opening up holes and not letting JG get destroyed back there. If the run game can get consistent, then that’s going to open up this offense.

Our play calling has to get better. But at the same time Helton is restricted in a sense cause the OL is SOFT. They get no push half of the time. So imagine calling plays that you almost know before hand are going to fail because the OL can’t get any push and can’t protect JG. And that’s what TN is rite now.

It’s MUCH easier to look like a Top Notch OC when you have the horses to run the race. We have one or two and the rest would be backups at almost every stop in the SEC.

But to answer your question, No I wouldn’t. If he’s a game manager at best, I’m rolling with the freshman shrout and letting him take the reigns.

But again, it all starts with the OL.

And that’s the truth or my rant on this beautiful Sunday after a freaking BEAT DOWN
