Its the same as last year trying to fit square pegs into a round hole

The thing is, though-- they're getting worse. Still out of position, still taking the wrong angles, still not tackling, still not protecting the ball. It's like football is new to them and most of them were highly regarded recruits. It's baffling how they can be this bad.

Pruitt said they were going to adapt the scheme to fit the personnel until they have the personnel to run what they want. Not sure what they're doing, but if they didn't trust players before, they're really not going to trust them after tonight.

I believe that he said that, but it doesn't appear that's what they're doing.

I think Butch recruited a bunch of guys that did not come to Tennessee to focus on football.

The Vol call in show said we had 27 first down plays and we ran 26 times. Can that be right?
i have no idea. but it wouldn't surprise me. we definitely were trying to run the ball, which in merit, i have no problem with.

but situationally speaking, we got taken out of our game plan really early, and we had no plan b.

that's a problem.

Let's just worry about getting good enough to compete with, and regularly beat Vandy and Kensucky again, and then worry about taking the next step. This program was nuked into near oblivion by Butch Jones. This is all on him and his puppet masters.

Fulmer had us to mount Everest in 98. By 2008 we were gently sliding down the mountain. Shortly after, Kiffin had us tumbling down the mountain. Then Dooley showed up and we jumped off the cliff, free falling. Butch came along and offered a parachute before cutting it off nose diving so hard to the bottom that we cratered to the earth's core. After today with Pruitt, we are almost through to the other side of the damn planet.

There’s a big distinction between the guys he recruited in the 2013-2015 classes and the 2016 and 2017 classes. Some high end guys in the first few and nobody like that in the last two. I know it’s painting with a broad brush, but I’m not sure what happened, especially since we had some mo on the field.

Very different feel leaving tonight. People are tired. Defeated

Good luck filling that stadium the rest of the year
People know what's down the pike. UGA, Bama, and Auburn will name the score on Tennessee. To me, every SEC team left looks like a loss to me. It would be nice if I had the will power to just not watch.

Haha Jr said tonight “this has to be rock bottom”

I said “son UT brings jack hammers and dynamite to get to a lower level”

Auburn isn't that great either IMO
florida isn't all that great.

the only team i know we'll beat is UNCC.

past that, every team we have left on the schedule can present problems for us. on either side of the ball, or both.

we have no shot at winning any of the next 3. and our chances of winning at USCe are slim to say the least.

KY looks pretty good. Vandy will not go away quietly and MO looked like a competitive football team with GA minus the turnovers and special teams.

my confidence in this team took a HUGE hit tonight. Florida is not good. at best that's a 7-5 team, and they probably locked that up with the W tonight.

really, really disappointed with the whole effort tongiht.

I agree. We're about to find out if coach Pruitt is anybody. Dynamics are different this time around.
He was insane to take on this job, it is probably going to ruin a promising career, maybe several careers. This team is everything I thought it was, and hoped it wasn't.

I don't believe any coach in the world would be doing any better with this bunch. It is just a broken, hapless and hopeless group of guys that can't seem to learn how to play football.

I applaud Pruitt for having the courage and confidence to take on this monster of a rebuild, but I wouldn't doubt he is sitting somewhere thinking he has made a huge miscalculation.

Today is not Pruitts fault. This is all on his predecessors imo.
