Mehlen's ranked wins:

2009: 25 Ole Miss, who finished 9-4
2010: at 22 Florida (8-5)
2011: nope
2012: nuh-uh
2013: well they sure showed Alcorn State and Troy who's boss
2014: 6 Texas A&M, 2 Auburn, both finished 8-5 overall
2015: 0-4 versus ranked opponents
2016: 20 Samford-- oh wait Samford is FCS. 7 Texas A&M who again finished 8-5
2017: 12 LSU (9-4)

All of the ranked opponents he's won against finished with at least four losses.

Looking at where a team finished can be unfair. If that was Tennessee we would be thrilled with beating the #7 no matter the time. Or #2 auburn or #6 LSU. Not to mention anytime you beat auburn, Florida, or LSU it’s alwysb a good win.

I know we’re playing Mullen today so he sucks and hopefully sucks today. But what he did at MSU was really good. Their whole program got a major boost in revenue and facilities just like pearl did for our basketball program. Yes jerry green was good just like Jackie sherrel was, but pearl and Mullen took them to levels they never had before. Like #1 in the country...even if it was for only a couple of days v

Well Mullen hasn’t had another chance to win somewhere else yet so that’s not really a fair point.

Also the bulk of the time Mullen was at MSU a combination of Bama, Auburn, or LSU were really really good every year. Not to mention ole miss had some really good years too. Added in AM team with Manziel etc.
Yes he has. He's 2-1 at Florida in his first year. So we already know he's going to be trash. Forget the unprecedented run he had at Mississippi State, the Kentucky of the toughest division in CFB for years now. Now he has a top 5 job with resources he never thought of having in Starkville. For sure gonna fail.

Dude, u are too young to appreciate Sherrill, so don't argue about something u didn't live thru and/or know about.

Don’t do lazy takes like that because you don’t have any logical or well thought out rebuttals.

1. You have no idea how old i am.
2. The SEC west god awful the whole time. It’s worse than what the east was a few years ago when James franklin was doing well there.

Worst. Of. All. Time.

No one said he sucked. A poster made a comment that he beat up on unranked teams. You said that was an assumption. I provided you with facts.

I try to educate the uneducated when I get the opportunity. You’re welcome.
I've provided nothing but facts. How many times do I have to take you and other people to school on here with stuff like this?

I’m not really concerned with Majors opinion.

Mullen was better than Sherrill at MSU. Jackie was a .500 coach in a worse division than Mullen.

3-21 his last 3 seasons in conference. Gross
I didn't say he was Miss. St. best coach, I said he was a better coach than Mullen and obviously u are young, too. Jackie did more at Pitt and A&M than Mullen has ever did. Plus, he won the West, no matter how bad it was, which Mullen never did. Maybe u can tag team Mullen with Chief

Nailed it.

I’m right because I’m old and I say so

Slightly concerned for our FG kicking. Think Florida has an edge there and in a game like this that could come into play

Reminded me of Chief when I saw that.
Everyone outside of this board for the most part looks at this program objectively. For years now folks on here have thought they knew more than what the outside college football "experts" have said about the Tennessee program. And for years now, the folks have been proven wrong again and again ultimately because they're biased.

What is everyone's reaction going to be if we completely dominate this game on both sides of the ball from start to finish like Cal 2006? Do you think we finally turned a corner or Florida is just that bad?
On the flip side, what is everyone's reaction if we get dominated the entire game and lose badly? Florida is better than we thought, or we're really just that bad and going to be a really long season?

Can't believe others didn't reply. But, here's my take.

Said before this season that the Vols' success would hinge on their mental toughness, their confidence. This game is the tipping point one way or the other. We dominate, then we are going 8-4, and beating Auburn during our "gauntlet." We lose then it's 5-7, with sloppy wins and a couple of moral victories in the losses.

Best/ worst thing about this game is the impression on the recruits. Win, and it makes Pruitt and Co.'s job easier. Being around a team of hyped, confident dudes is infectious and a lasting impression. Reliving the highlights over breakfast the next day would be priceless.

Ultimately feel that Pruitt is the better coach. He has put our young men in a position to be successful. They have to take the bull by the horns. They do? Well then, SEC watch out! You're put on notice.
