It doesn't matter how good this staff is...You can't make chicken salad out of chicken isht..well actually you can, but it taste like isht.

Yeah, I got a burr up my butt yesterday and started charting our defensive breakdowns.. I guess I was in some sort of mood to do that to myself... Only got through the first half and Buchanan and Abernathy just kept popping up on that list. Abernathy was actually taking some good angles, but dude needs to quit worrying about hurting the other guy. He might as well have tried tackling via pillow fight. Buchanan was just playing way too far off to even be considered in the play.

Did see some promising things though.

Thompson's first play, they tried picking on him, and he immediately came in to swat the ball down (granted it would have been a tough catch)..

On offense, Guarantano had trips spread left, a TE and a HB. TE and HB stayed home to block, even though WVU only rushed three. JG still found the first down despite essentially 3 on 8.

He must’ve been the one I kept noticing backing up 10+ yards off the ball...on favorable down and distances for the offense. No excuse for that and pretty much the complete opposite of what I expected out of our DB’s. It looked like Butch ball all over again.

UF has 350 yards in the first half and scored on all but one possession. They allowed 5 yards until the final drive of the first half, which is when they started pulling starters. They also had multiple starters suspended(😂), context matters just plainly looking at stats isn’t a good indicator of how they played. Cmon man
Florida sucks.

It hurts but here are the notes I had:

- Played off, didn't make effort to cover Sills, easy inside catch 13 yards off the LOS. 27 yards gained on 1st and 20.

- Decent play, Grier forced it into triple coverage between Buchanan, Abernathy, and Bituli. Dropped by WR. Buchanan played off like he was angling for a pick. 2nd and 8 in the RZ

*(I was wrong re: Thompson-- he had the swat the next play on 3rd and 8. Still a nice play on his first collegiate snap)

- Buchanan trailed WR across the field (long crossing pattern). Abernathy had the angle to bring WR down but 2-hand-touched him, clapped off, Buchanan nor Bituli could catch up

- QB pressure, 5 man rush, WR still made a 1 yd catch against Buchanan on the comeback as WG tried throwing it away

I don't want to dog a kid, because these guys go through so much pressure and have so much demanded from them in all directions. But his performance v. WVU was pretty bad. Obviously we're all on the same side and I'm rooting for him to improve.

On Vols Calls just now, Pruitt relays a message from Kennedy: “I’ll be back.”

Pruitt: "We’ve got some really good players on our team. We need to develop some confidence."

Pruitt: "Shamburger has had a really good week of practice."

Pruitt says in recruiting DBs he often looks for guys in HS who are running with the ball. In a lot of high schools the coaches always put their best players on offense. There are some schools that have good athletes at DB but the number of those high school programs is limited.

Pruitt talks about how much Jauan Jennings means to the team and how much Jauan loves Tennessee. He said when Jauan talks about Tennessee you can see tears well up in his eyes.

Pruitt jokes about talking to Peyton about having him come on board to coach quarterbacks. (ed. hey, at least they're talking). :)

Pruitt says Chandler probably won't play this week but if it was up to Ty he's ready today.

Next two games are 100% wins. Period.

I’m on the 7-5 record still. We beat 3 cupcakes, Vandy, UK....and two more somewhere, somehow. Saturday was disheartening, but I believe this team will get better and better and surprise somebody. No real rational reason, it’s JMO.

There is potential to take a giant leap forward as a program in 2020 or 2021. The freshmen forced into the fire over these next two years will be veterans and we will have senior JG in 2020, or a more developed Shrout at QB.

Fans need to be patient this year and next though. It's going to be growing pains. Staff needs to continue to recruit at a high level for their scheme, and I'm confident in their ability to develop them.

TIME...

We were on row 7 at about the 40. Shrout was stuck like glue to QB coach. Loved it.

Every time I listen to VolCalls I lose a little more faith in some of our fans haha. Man some of these questions are beyond ridiculous.
