This staff has a much different height/weight/bodytype/ playing style critera than Butch's staff were recruiting. Butch Jones was trying to be Oregon of the SEC, with quicker, smaller, defensive guys. And smaller WR's and RB's on offense. We're trying to build an SEC team from the likes of GA and Bama. The guys that fit Butch's critera won't play on this team.

Agreed. Wouldn’t surprise me if Latrell Williams and/or Jacquez Jones left soon.

Not to suggest they can’t play. Just that they don’t seem to fit what CJP wants.

LSU jumped from 25 to 11 in the AP

Bama #1
Georgia #3
Auburn up to #7
WV up to #14
SCjr #24
Florida #25

Moral of story schedule cupcakes first 2-3 games. Crush them and get in top 25 in Florida case. I'm all for big games when we are full strength again but this yr would have been nice to have 3 cupcakes before that brutal stretch

My concern is with the leadership right now, I hope there are some dudes in the locker room keeping the team together. I know there will be some lost causes, but we need to be in the 90% cohesiveness range.

I kind-of get what everyone is saying about scheduling cupcakes. But this game was announced in July, 2014. No one had any problems with non-cupcake games against NC State, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech. I would rather have a home game than a neutral-site game, but to act like we shouldn't have scheduled this game is a little silly...no one knew in July 2014 what Tennessee or West Virginia would look like four years later.

Did we get the time when the Florida game would be played or do we have to wait another week?

I'm not ready to give up on kongbo and Taylor like some. All of the Lbs were quiet and I think the offense we played was part of that. Grier wants quick throws. I'll give them these next 3 games to show me something. Even Bituli was quiet and we know he can bring it. Kongbo pressure helped make Grier overthrow a open RB. Taylor showed up in backfield a time or two but couldn't finish.

The real problem is the stupid 5 game stretch we have to play every year. The order we play the best teams are constantly trash. Plus, add in Bama every year and you have a mess.

WTF is up with our recruiting evals? Are we going after kids who have fake offers from other schools and legit 4*s want absolutely nothing to do with us?

Or did Butch and his staff just coach all of the talent and instincts out of the guys they recruited?

I just assumed VQ is overreacting to a bad game... Not to say there aren't talent issues but things are never quite as bad as they appear after a blowout loss.

VQ podcast was pretty sobering. I don’t think we’re gonna win but 5 games tops. May see a wholesale youth movement on defense.

It's never as good or as bad as you think and VQ is a perfect example of that. Most of camp it was sunshine and ice T. Now it's gloom and doom. I have learned to pay very little attention to what nerds with computers have to say after seeing 10 minutes of warmups in practice. You have 4 guys that woudnt know how to put on a helmet Much less know what they are seeing in those 10 minutes

This. A couple of weeks ago they were slobbering all over the players they were seeing. They can evaluate talent about like Butch could. I’m still holding out on what this season will look like until after the Florida game. I believe that will be the last winnable game until South Carolina but I would like to see how we play them

Haven't announced time yet but looking at the matchups that day, I am going to say it's the ESPN night game under the lights. Should be a very good atmosphere honoring the 98 team, Florida, under the lights. Fans will do their part for sure.

I was mocking your "I told you so" post regarding kids transferring out. That has been discussed fairly regularly since 12/7/2017. I'm not familiar with you enough to even realize you were one of the insider types who shares info, so I wasn't mocking anything you allegedly shared.

I'm sorry my internet words upset your delicate sensibilities.

It has to do with respecting a fellow RF poster who does share info. Tone it down a bit and all will be well - like your last sentence did not do. Why was that necessary to say?

This.

You could take 4 of us from the RF and give us access to 10 minutes of stretching and we could do a better job than those

One narrative I'd like to see vanish like a fart in the win about Jones is that "Well, he couldn't coach, but he was a great recruiter!" No, he wasn't. Had no idea how to build a roster or project talent.
Kamara, Dobbs, Malone, Peterman, Croom, Gaulden, Trevor daniel, John Kelly, etc. would disagree. That is why I'm taking any comment about our roster with a GOS.

Now that all of us, media included, have seen the product on the field we can all make our own judgements. I for one saw a very bad football team on saturday that won’t win 6 games unfortunately. I expect any QB with a pulse to have record setting days against us. I agree with VQ there are some Butch stains and the older players are simply bad football players that Pruitt could not get up to speed in 50 some odd practices of spring and fall.

I'm hoping they get the kinks worked out the next couple of weeks in practice and the next two games and come out fired the **** up for this game and stomp a mudhole in the Gators. I'm probably getting my hopes up, but it would be glorious.

I'd really like to see some research on the class rankings from 16 and 17 across the recruiting site spectrum. I'm wondering if this was a Tennessee-BJ miss or if the rankings have generally been bad across those 2 classes for most teams.

I know a lot of posters have ridden an emotional rollercoaster from Friday until today, but I think VN's expectations have been reoriented to the place they should have been (if not even doomier and gloomier than necessary). This season is about baby steps. If we can get a win against a ranked Florida or South Carolina, I think that will speak volumes to the team's progress.

I'm not sure I've bought in to all the "psyche" or "know how to win" points that some posters are making. I agree that learning how to win has some value, but I still think that these guys have all the mental tools to learn how to win. The disparity among the teams was marked by two much bigger problems: experience and physical talent. Our high expectations based off of prior recruiting metrics have biased us against lesser recruiting teams. We've got to go in and have some wholesale changes to this roster, and that can't be done effectively within a season, maybe not even 2 (unless we buy a Cam Newton style player). I don't want to give up games this year just for progress next year, but I think Pruitt and his staff should make the most balanced decisions in order to give ourselves a change in these games while keeping an eye on the future. There should be no worry about burning a redshirt for anyone this year (with the exception of Shrout) because almost every position should be an open competition until we see some players truly show out.
