For the most part I agree. Where I take exception is playing Abernathy and Buchanan so many snaps. Special teams players and back-ups at best. Have been since they arrived, but the coaches must love their attitudes and practice habits. That won't win games. Youth movement and intensity from all that play - now's the time. Realize they are limited as to who to throw in there.
Could you tell the d-backs it is aight to lift their arms/hands to deflect passes when trailing receivers? It's even OK to turn and look for the ball - they are even allowed to jump high to catch or deflect it when they do. Thanks. lol.
Call me crazy but even after the beat down we took Saturday I still believe 6 wins is a real possibility and should be the expectation for the fan base. I believe we underestimated WV and this was a horrible team for our young DB’s to go up against. If you consider our 3 cupcake games and Kentucky and Vandy wins, are you reeling me we can’t win one of Florida, South Carolina, or Missouri?
Never would have thought that about safety.I’m not calling you out when i say this but i feel like “our DBs aren’t turning to look for the ball” has become a really lazy VN take. Sometimes you get there late and you don’t have time to do it. You don’t have to have your head turned to be in good coverage or position. There’s gonna be some times when you just can’t get turned around and that’s ok.
I thought Grier made about 5 perfect throws when we were in position or good coverage. That probably won’t happen with anyone else except for Tua this year. (Maybe locke).
You also have to realize Baylen is still a young player. He’s probably more suited to a zone scheme. I think he has more of a safety build but he can still be a productive player. Thompson is going to eventually be our #2 with Taylor full time. But baylen will still pay a lot.
The problem with our other safety/star spot that ab is in... we’ve got a lot of busts there. Theo or sham is probably the best of the bunch. But labruzza and TKjr are non factors
We have to play Theo or Sham over Abernathy IMO. Seems like a great guy but he’s not an SEC level safety. These next two weeks are going to be critical in getting other guys up to speedI’m not calling you out when i say this but i feel like “our DBs aren’t turning to look for the ball” has become a really lazy VN take. I’m trying to think of one play where Warrior sticks out and I can’t think of any. Maybe someone can help me.
JimOk. Like I said not being negative. But I don't think JG made right decisions. I saw at least 4 plays where we had a receiver make a move and was wide open for a big play and JG either didn't see it or passed it up for the easier shorter gain.
RB's in my opinion it's hard to tell with Chandler not playing the whole game. Jordan had a great game, even with his missed running assignments. Not taking that away from him. Don't think he has that big play ability though.
WR's are also tough to judge since we didn't stretch the field at all. I didn't see any glaring plays/drops so that's a positive.
I guess overall I'm not writing them off. After all it's only one game. But I didn't see much I liked. What worries me the most is every opponent WVU played last year scored more than 14 points. Delaware State included.

I'm not calling you out when I say this but last year after GT ran for a gazillion yards on us the word was not to get too excited about it because we wouldn't really face another team like that for the rest of the year. Our run defense ended up ranked #126 out of 130 in the nation last year. Our pass defense after week 1 is sitting at #123 out of 127 teams so far ranked.
I know, I know. Nothing to worry about. R.E.L..A.X.
You do remember pass-happy Missouri rushed for 433 yards on us last season. I think that's evidence that teams will adjust their offensive game plans to exploit our weaknesses.
Dan Mullen is probably all beside himself with giddiness right now. He's probably going to make us pay for calling him Mehlen.
Look, now I'm officially calling you out. You work over there. Get off your butt and go fix our secondary. This is official. You are on the hot seat. Don't come back until you can offer absolute assurance that this is no longer a problem.
Whatever you need you let us know. We'll may sure you have all the support you need. JUST.FIX.OUR.*************.SECONDARY!
Have a nice day.![]()
Exactly my point. Same thing with K-MacI’m trying to think of one play where Warrior sticks out and I can’t think of any. Maybe someone can help me.

I do think passing is a little different tho. No one besides bama has a QB on Grier’s level. Missouri May have a similar QB but not the skill at WR.
Frank’s is awful so I’m not worried about him. Lol
Don’t get it twisted i certainly have concerns and doubts but that are more in DE/edge than secondary.
*** Freshman linebacker JJ Peterson attended his first practice, working out in just shorts and a helmet as he goes through the NCAA acclimation period. Naturally, Peterson looked a bit lost at this point in drill work and is trying to pick up things quickly. Peterson is also having to adjust to pace of practicing and his conditioning level. He's clearly missed an important summer with the strength coaches. Pruitt said on Monday that there's basically no expectations for Peterson at this point given all that he has missed.
“I wouldn't put unrealistic expectations on him,” Pruitt said. “We'll put him out there and try to teach him the fundamental things that we're trying to get done. We'll see where he goes from there.”
*** Three freshman defensive linemen were in scout team jerseys Monday: Garland, Harris and Mincey. Interestingly, Greg Emerson was in orange but had a new number: 51
*** With Ty Chandler doing work on the side in the indoor facility, Princeton Fant was back with the tailback group today.
*** During his weekly press conference Monday, Pruitt noted that defensively poor technique was the biggest issue for his unit in the secondary. He acknowledged there were some busts but noted that the biggest problems were technique related, so naturally, the start of Monday's practice was all about technique work for the defensive side of the ball. The OLBs worked on getting off the ball with better leverage and more violently, with the DL focusing on footwork in the run game. The LBs did two different tackling drills, while secondary worked on tackling fundamentals and running with receivers in man coverage.
*** Others in scout team jerseys were wideouts Latrell Williams and Jacquez Jones.
*** With AD Phillip Fulmer watching close by (with a practice schedule in hand), the tight ends spent the entire period focused on run blocking. Niedermeyer was really focusing on footwork.
*** The offensive line had guys shuffling to different spots again today, with Jahmir Johnson getting some reps at right tackle.
