I'm not trying to stir the pot with the question. I've seen others post the same concept. I dont know if it originated on VN or inside the program.

It’s made up excuse emanating from the fan base.

I'm getting the feeling that I/we may have underestimated the hole Butch put us in. I never understood why he would say it's a line of scrimmage league yet, of all positions, the lines seem to be the weakest points. Not sure how you improve the DL except with time and recruiting.
Botch wasn't that great at judging the talent of the players he was recruiting

Did this narrative that our guys lack self confidence and an innate knowledge they can win come from the coaches or AD?
Jeremy said and I think it was before the game something along the lines that he feels he has talent on this team but several of them lack the confidence to be as good as they can be.

I'm in wait and see mode also, cause its all I can do. I'm not in a position or have the power to make changes or influence others that are in power.
One game is not even in the realm of being able to know what kind of coach he will be.

Its probably clear to most of us we are going to experience "rough going this year" and that's what JP is telling recruits even. But I do believe we should see some improvement over the next few weeks. I really like what the TE position can bring us and I do think our run blocking will get better. The throw game looked ok. So offensively I do think we can get better. Defensively I think is where we will improve at a snails pace because of the lack of size AND speed, especially in the 3-4. The young Dbacks will most definitely get better. Although Kirkland led us in tackles he did seem slower and out of position on multiple plays (the one where the receiver dropped the ball or it was a TD is an example) but lets give him a huge break because its been a while since he's played. Kongbo MUST improve and I think he can as well. The problem....murderers row in the middle of our schedule...I agree that the Florida game should give us a clue about this years team but I still wouldn't let that influence my opinion of Jeremy.

The offense doesnt have as far to go as I originally thought. I was very encouraged with JGs performance. He showed why there is no question Pruitt went with him as the starter. We are set at RB and WR. The OL still has a way to go, but when they settled in they started playing better.

On D, our secondary is green and with no depth. Taylor and Flowers I think will end up being good players but they're just young. Warrior needs to get better, didnt think he played well. I cannot believe how bad Osburne is. He was a top 100 player and top 10 DB coming out of HS, and he is just straight up terrible. Thought the LB play was pretty bad as well. That group has to play better. DL was good at times but has a way to go too. The DL and LBs have to play well to help this secondary out, that's all there is to it.

The UF game will tell the tale on this season, whether it will be 7-5, 8-4, or 5-7. JmO
Just saw your post and I think we pretty much agree to a T....

What’s the consensus on Pruitt? I’ve heard positives and negatives. Kirby had a rough first year and he had depth. UT has a decent starting 22, but not much after that.

JG showed up. Showed a lot more poise this game, in spite of the thin O-line. A couple of your RBs were tough. Jordan wants to play tackle football.

D looks porous. Pruitt just doesn’t have his kind of players on the field to execute. Having to throw those young kids in vs an explosive O like WV’s is a tough position to be in.

This is probably going to be a very trying season for the VolNation. But you have to give Pruitt some time to learn the job and implement his system. There’s not a coach in this country that could have taken UT’s players and beat WV last Sat.
Agreed. Our offense is going to have to carry us. They should. O line will gell with games (First game for that group).

Feels like a team you'd rather catch early than late. Game in Athens in two years going to be big time!

Secondary is young but they will improve with game time. DL needs to play as many guys as possible to create depth. Offense I thought was ok and OL just needs to more time under there belts. These next two weeks are vital for experience for the young guys

Here's hoping the confidence builds as the season progresses.
Interesting CJP says we have talent because the other popular narrative is that we dont have talent due to CBJ's smoke and mirrors recruiting.
Good to hear CJP doesnt agree with the sentiment.

Yeah I really like Jeremy's approach... I hope he gets the job done.

Nice post UGA fan. It's easier for an outsider to be accurate than us fans when the emotions are still there. I believe that Pruitt inherited a significantly worse situation that CKS. That being said, Kirby has definitely moved the program up a notch. While most here believe Pruitt is currently doing the same, the jury is definitely out until actual wins come in.

I'm in the McDad camp above. Also, if we can win our 3 patsies, and 4 of UK, VU, UM, USC, & UF, I'll consider this a successful season. Win only 3 of those and we have nothing to show for the changeover. Win 2 or less of those then we have to question our new hire IMO.

I do agree with OP regarding what I saw and observations.

Regarding our end of year record, I Disagree. According to this, 7-5 is a successful season. 6-6 is “nothing to show”. I disagree. If we go 6-6 and Pruitt takes this team from 4-8 to 6-6, then it was a very successful season.

Heck, Saban only matched the precious year regular season record his first year. A two game improvement would be huge.

Butch destroyed this roster

It will take Pruitt time to build it right

Still doesn't make losing any easier, but I can't blame Pruitt for it

It's been a colossal cluster muck in Knoxville for 10 years

A special note of thanks goes out to former Athletic Directors Mike Hamilton, Dave Hart, and John Currie... who collectively fired Phil Fulmer and hired Lane Kiffin, Derek Dooley, and Butch Jones. Each of these three last three coaches have left the program worse than it was when he came until it became the dumpster fire ash pit it was when the Butchter was finally put out of our misery.

As CountVolcula said so well, "it will take Pruitt time to build it right..." because he simply does not have the players in stock to do so yet, nor has he and his coaches had the time to get the players he inherited developed out of the flab-pit they were. We have no choice but to give him time. So, instead of bashing him, lets show some class and encourage Pruitt, his staff, and our VOLS... and show the college football world what we are made of just like we did when we stood up to Currie and said "NO" to his hiring of Schaino! Go VOLS ! ! !

I have to agree that there’s not a coach in the country that could take the talent we have and beat WVA. They are a very good team, though we’ll see what happens over the season.

The depth to which the roster was depleted by Botch is becoming very apparent. It is going to take CP two more recruiting classes at least to get the talent level to the point where we can compete with the best in the SEC and country.

Bloody freaking depressing it is.

Another poster paraphrased a CJP interview where he said we have the talent.

I like CJP. He's a grown-up who takes responsibility which is how it should be. He just needs time. I saw things that were good Saturday, and I am willing to be patient. Thanks for coming on and not gloating. I like your Dawgs, except when they play us, of course.

As some have said on another thread, we have at best 1 or 2 players on defense that would be on Alabama's 2 deep roster. This includes Taylor, Kongbo, Bituli, Kirkland, Warrior, Kelly, etc.

Except maybe Kirkland or Bituli, if anyone these kids you mentioned are in 2-Deep at Alabama then Alabama is in big big trouble. Kongbo is a major bust so far, not even D1 level play. Warrior is soft and all I see him is making mistakes, not sec level at all. Kelly is barely 2-deep in our roster so forget Alabama. Bituli has potential to make 2-deep at Alabama. Kirkland possibly could if he could stay healthy. Taylor is good player but based on what I have seen won't be starting on most SEC rosters, same with Kyle Phillips, Shy Tuttle. Both are good but most Top SEC rosters (GA, AL, Auburn, LSU etc) would have them as back ups. We do not have a single CB that would be 2-deep in any SEC Top or Mid-level roster.
We got our as* handed to us by Vandy two years in a row. That is the talent level of this roster. Let that sink in before you want quick turnarounds.

You’re right....Pruitt did not inherit superstars. He’s doing the best he can with what he’s got. Also...like I said in another post — he’s gonna have to beat the Butch Jones out of them. They still have a a lot of bad game day habits....and that doesn’t get fixed in one camp. Guys like Kongbo, Warrior, etc...just not as good as what we thought when they committed. Too much hype. With that being said, I do think they will all improve as the season progresses. It was one game. Pruitt and his staff will get on the same page and fix what they can. Talent is an issue....that’s being addressed with the 2019 class. On to the next game......
