Yea, it's good thing Nick Saban worked his way up the ranks first. Can you imagine how good he would be if he went straight for coordinator to the Bama job?

Do we really need to list all the first time head coaches who have done great? Or all the retreads that keepin refired. Good thing Kirby was a head coach somewhere before uga or fulmer here.

There's going to be a time when Tennessee wins a meaningful game and has a great season. I don't know when that will be. Probably a long time. What I do know is that happens all that bottled up frustration will come out. We as a fan base are going to be the most obnoxious, loud, sh** talking bunch the world has ever seen. And it's going to be awesome.

I can cite many coordinator failures as you can name successes. You saying previous head coaching experience is not a factor tells me all I need to know about your level of expertise here.

I’m saying it doesn’t matter Bc it works just as much as it doesn’t. Don’t be so dense.

Man that loss was deflating. I can’t shake it.
Maybe this will help.

I seen a article somewhere ..said jj has to go thru 5 acclimation practices orsomething of that nature..i know hes not gonnahave 22 tackles first game ...will he be able to play at all saturday?

Link?

You're pulling numbers out of your keister.

Well maybe it’s just a Tennessee thing then let’s see here.

Johnny majors won a national title before coming here and ultimately failed.
Butch jones was a head coach and failed
Derek Dooley was a head coach and failed
Lane kiffin was a head coach and failed.

Phillip fulmer wasn’t a head coach and won

Let’s look at some of the top coaches in football right now...

Dabo Sweeney
David Shaw
Kirby smart
Doug Pederson
Shawn mcvay
John Harbaugh
Lincoln Riley
Chris Peterson wasn’t a head coach before Boise
Jumbo fisher wasn’t a head coach before FSU
Bobby petrino wasn’t a head coach before Louisville
Mark richt wasn’t a head coach before UGA.

Do i need to keep going? No one is saying that head coaching experience doesn’t help. But it’s not necessary in the least beat to mean you are the right hire and can go straight into winning.

Being so dead set on “head coaching experience” is what keeps crappy coaches like Jeff fisher, mike mularkey, sonny dykes etc getting jobs

Yes. 1 with only helmet.
2 with helmet and pads
2 with helmet and full but limited contact.

Boggles the mind that some UT fans plan on checking out when they run the gauntlet. I hope we upset someone and they miss it.
I do think that the actual number that check out is a lot lower than the number who are saying that they will. Even if we had hired Schiano, fans love the team and university too much to check out completely.

Why is that a huge difference?

Wasn’t your argument based around how much head coaching experience matters? Why does it matter where they were not being a head coach before?
Do you not seeing taking over a program you've been at for a few years as different than coming into a program you've had zero experience at?

Which ones took over a program that they were already at? Which ones took over programs that were successful and just kept it going?

Every job is different. If you don't think past head coaching experience is advantages when taking over a power 5 job that is in the shape that this program is, there really is no use in continuing this conversation.

It’s hilarious. These guys get cult leader status around here until it goes south then everyone pretends they saw it coming the whole time and never liked the guy in the first place.
The thing is that none of us can look at our coach objectively. We are biased based upon our perception of how he was going to perform as a coach. It is our team, therefore, objectivity is a lost cause. You can all claim to be a realist all you want, but you aren't.

Blaming the L on pruitt is silly.
I agree, but Pruitt will take responsibility for it. He is that kind of person and coach. I am glad that he is owning it, even if it's not really his fault. He inherited a bowl of cold **** soup. There is some talent, but we have much further to go than I realized, but I believe he will get us there.

Ok so now you are moving the goalposts. So you are separating coaches that took over places they already were? What does that matter? Dabo has taken Clemson to places way further than they had ever been in recent memory.

Yes it can help but there’s countless examples of coaches who don’t have it that instantly work. So to act like it’s just one of the most important things is just silly. Specifically at this university and in this conference.

I’m a big believer in Pruitt, but give it time. The coach worship hasn’t truly started yet in the forum. It will start with posters giving Pruitt cute lil nicknames after we win our first game. By year 2, the coach worship will be in full effect. Some posters here will have erected shrines, quilted Pruitt pillows, and replaced their Butch pictures with Pruitt above the family fireplace.
Why do you think that is? Because they are stupid, blind followers of everything orange? Some of them are probably like that. But, most of us try to convince ourselves that we are going to get better because it is what we want. Simple as that.
