On offense I somewhat agree. But the defense was outclassed the entirety of the game at every position. Grier missed a few pretty easy throws in the first half which was why it was close.

Yea he missed some throws I agree.

Wierd thing is a few weeks back I made a post saying that this game would tell us very very little about our defense and nearly everyone agreed. Now that game has taken place everyone wants to act like the sky is falling on D.

Bottom line is we should have only given up 10 the first half. Once we fell behind we took more chances and it blew the game open. Too early to tell Against that good of an offense how good our D will he

If you’re NOT READY for the job how can you succeed? Words mean something when you’re not trying to get laid.

Kelly has experience and was the wet dream home run for a lot of your new buddies...seems relevant.
Again, you're accusing me of what you ndo yourself. Go and find one post where I thought Chip Kelly was a good hire.

Two, there are coaches that take jobs that they are not really ready for but they succeed. Go ahead and put your meaning in my phrases if it makes you feel better.

Just like your post where I claimed you thought you thought Pruitt was our savior, read into things what you want to.

I think coach had our guys in position to make plays on D Saturday and sometimes they just couldn’t make them. Either because of youth/inexperience or simply because they couldn’t. Next few games will either get the young guys up to speed and they will learn from those mistakes or Pruitt will have to play more of a bend don’t break style of defense imo. I feel like the young guys will be making plays by mid season. My biggest concern is the front 7 but we will see how they look in the next 3-4 games. I want to see some guys fired up on defense and I didn’t see much of that.

On O, I think we just need to keep calling the plays that are working until the other team stops it. Sounds simple I know. I think Helton, JG, and the OL will keep improving as the season progresses.

He knew what he was getting into when he took the job. He’s had time to prepare for games like Saturday. Won’t be the last time this year we get it handed to us. I suspect in the coming years he’s going to get his too.
I think he called that defensive game thinking he had Alabama players. Lots of blitzes and relying on one on one situations were one guy has to make a play. I think he’ll dial it back a bit going forward and it could be very beneficial.

Pruitt: Ty got his bell rung and is day to day.

Only one OR remaining:

Fair warning: TLDR. Just finished watching the game. I have to admit, Im not as negative as this board showed the last 2 days. We’ve got a long way to go and we just don’t have the horses right now and the ones we do have are young and inexperienced and were going against an Heisman potential QB and All-American WRs. Score was worse than the game overall. A lot of negative but positives as well.

Few things I saw:
- OL got better throughout game but horrible start. Next two games will be good for them to gel. I still see potential there.
-Pass rush was bad but also looked worse than it was. Grier is so quick to get the ball out and the scheme they run helps that. Also, can we not get a holding call? It wouldn’t have helped much but there were a couple times that I saw D.Taylor literally get his arm yanked while flying through the hole.
- The last drive of the first half was a giveaway by Helton. WVU was sucking air and we were moving the ball and then Helton calls two run plays on short yardage basically to the same spot and gets stopped both times with WVU bringing 6+ in the box both times. We punt and give them the ball back for the field goal. Rain delay surely didn’t help either but can’t lay the blame on that.
- Third Quarter was the turning point. 1st TD Grier threw a beauty to Stills. Then we come out and after a good 1st down play we have a bad block on bubble screen, a penalty and an incompletion to give the ball right back. After that we gave up the long draw play and then here is a coaching bright spot on their second TD of the half. Not sure if anyone else saw but Pruitt actually diagnosed the play before hand and was screaming at Warrior from the sideline pointing it out. Warrior ended up with okay coverage (could’ve been better) but Grier threw another beauty and TD. Pruitt knew it but still couldn’t stop it. This was the 3 drive swing that killed us.
- JG and offense showed some moxy on the 2nd drive and took it down and scored. I was impressed with JG overall.

I trust Pruitt. He had the right plays dialed up at times but just didn’t have the horses. He said the right things after the game. We will see what kind of adjustments he will make. Helton had good moments but bad ones as well. He will improve I think. Bubble screens were worthless. Also looked like he had comeback routes and hitches open all game along the sideline but largely stopped going to them in the 2nd half outside of a couple. All in all, lick the wounds and get ready for UF in 3 weeks. I still think we can win but we have to improve.

I think y'all are misinterpreting my position. Did the game disappoint me? Absolutely. Do I think Pruitt is doomed for failure? absolutely not. What that game did for me was remind e how pitiful a program this has become. It's not Pruitts fault, hell i admire him for taking on this mess. All I've said is he's extremely inexperienced and the odds are stacked against him.

As to buying in, I scratched my head on the Kiffin hire but put my misgivings to the side anyway. I scratched a bald spot in my head with the dooley hire but repressed those feelings of doubt. I beat my head against the wall with the butch hire and went all in anyway. I love what coach pruitt is doing so far but forgive me if i guard my cojones this time around.

I think I'm in the same boat on every account. It sounds like I gave Butch a little more initial benefit than you did.

Honestly, I'm more down on things than I sound. I'm just trying to keep it in. At the same time, and probably because of that, I'm not as down about yesterday as many are.

Like it's been said before, I'm starting to wonder if this team will ever be good. It just doesn't do much to beat that drum all the time.

The failure of the last three coaches has taken its toll on me.

All that said, here I am again. I haven't gone anywhere.

Agreed. It’s catch-22 bc if the front four can’t generate pressure then you have to blitz bc Grier had too much time. But then you put the DB’s in a tough spot. Like you said, he doesn’t have the Bama front four to cause pressure so the DB’s don’t have to defend as long.

Not everything I post is AT you...maybe at the company you’re keeping? And I am confused that the failure of an EXPERIENCED coach at his new stop wouldn’t be relatable in this conversation. I’ll quit using flowery language and spit this out...nothing indicated that our team was coached by someone that hadn’t headed a program before. So maybe, just maybe this experienced, ready for the big time myth is way overplayed. You can do the job or you can’t.

I apologize for sounding negative. All the game did for me is realize how far we've got to go. Has nothing to do with with coach.

There were many positives from the game that we can build on. Ive tried to point those out but for some reason those things haven't gotten much attention. 😂

Prolly should have led with that instead of the four straight hires that weren’t ready headline.

Let me make this simple for you. I take nothing about Jeremy Pruitt's coaching from the game Saturday. Is that plain enough for you. I don't know why you feel the need to ride in on your white horse and want to joust with anyone that says anything YOU determine to be a slap. I don't know if your blinded by your perceived role as "keeper of the sunshine" or you truly just can't comprehend a post. I have to admit that it is unbelievable how you can lump everyone in their proper baskets according to YOUR criteria. You freak out worse when someone questions anything than the ones that want to fire Pruitt after game one. Think about that.

But why did he miss them? I have seen media say he missed 2 throws and we got lucky. But did we? When I rewatched the game, he overthrew the running back because kongbo was pushing an OL into Griers spot forcing him to go backwards and throw quicker than he wanted to. That's the affecting a QB without hitting him Pruitt mentioned.

We weren't nearly as bad as score indicates or how I felt watching live with some brews in me.

Games get away from you sometimes. It’s not the end of the world. Miami got dominated last night by LSU. We’re they outclassed?
Don't know about you Hank but I do think we'll see this team improve a good bit throughout the season. I'll be impressed if they can get this team to a bowl honestly.

Yea we’re going to improve a lot. I’m a lot higher on wvu then a lot of other people. It would really surprise me if they didn’t win 9 games.

Just finished listening to Pruitt's press conference, maybe it's just his personality, but he sounds extremely relaxed. If they can just get some of these guys to learn the "know how", I think we'll be alright.

I know obv the Goal is to win every game but there’s no way they felt Uber confident going into that game just off matchups alone. It’s a non conference game and week 1 so it’s really not a huge deal that we lost that game.
