Are we any better?

Doesn’t take a full season to assess what we saw today. 2018 is gonna be bad, really bad. There’s not an SEC win on our schedule imo.

There are SEC wins potentially on the schedule.

However, the idea that there are SEC wins that you can pencil in should be dead and gone.

Wins are going to be earned and hard fought.

That’s probably a little premature. But, I will say there’s no cause for optimism at this point. I grade him a D- in his debute.
Honestly I should have put blue font on that. We are way behind the eight ball in talent. People are way too optimistic for this season. Winning 6 games will be a great job on his part. We are a terrible tram as a whole

Our O-line didn’t lose the game today. West Virginia’s QB and WRs just showed how much we lack we have on D. Grier exposed our secondary. Tennessee will get better. Game 1 teams are many times much different than game 8,9,10,etc. i think we saw some positives today. The line gave JG plenty of time to throw. We opened up running lanes. That’s a big plus. Our defense is our weak point to date. I thought we called a good game as well but that team was just better than us and it showed. Rome wasn’t built in a day, or an offseason in this case.

I’d say no. Still tackled like crap. Cant anticipate in the secondary and the offensive line is horrible. We’re slow and bring no intensity to the field.

Maybe we’ll be better someday, but this team looked way too much like the team Butch rolled outed last year.
No

No UT is not better...Same team same results...We are in for a horrible year...Can't tackle at all and anyone who passes the ball with just a tiny bit of accuracy will beat us...Only bright spots are Jordan and JG who I wish they would let him throw the damn ball downfield once and a while instead of bubble screens all the time....Very depressing watching this team....This just isn't Tennessee football
Except for the last 11 years it is TN football. No period is more relevant for predicting future results than the immediate past.

Everyone on VN seems to completely discredit WV and what potentially might be the best PASSING attack we see all season.

I'm staying positive, but we'll face plenty of qb's this year who can make those exact throws and scrambles on us that Grier did today.

We need a clean slate. Let CJP bring his type of players in.
No year zero... you are at UT and expectation are to win, fair or not. These guys are paid millions to win football games and they failed to do that today. They have two weeks to fix the problems they saw and figure out how to win with the roster they have this year.

I saw a lack of talent out there. It's going to take time but they have to build from the ground up. Need better lines and a better secondary. Things you can't fix with just "coaching." Tennessee needs a talent infusion

They atleast showed fight which couldn't be said in week 13 last year

I agree. Still too many screens too. I'd say JG is improved though

Coverage (and I know this will make folks chuckle) wasn't that bad. Some really good throws.

What was really, really bad was the lack of pass rush. And Tennessee sure as heck tried. I saw standard 4 man rush. I saw stunts. I saw LB blitzes. I saw CB blitzes. I saw safety blitzes.

That was the big problem.

IMO
Agreed. Grier just made some throws that were perfect.

Yes, but what about the “talent” we’re alleged to have recruited? This staff has had 40 something practices to influence these players and there was essentially no change. All of the frustrations associated with poor fundamentals are still there.
I believe this starts the same vicious cycle. No improvement creates an evacuation within every recruiting class. That creates lack of improvement, and here we go again.

Lot to work with...I’m stoked! First game against an elite NFL level passer. Buncha kids working together in a new system on both sides of the ball. By the end of the game we were running more than impressively. And we have our QB!
