Sleegro/SugarCC had a good response to this--- we are a different team this year... I, for one, am not going to go into this season thinking we are going to play at the level we did last year. We are healthier, more experienced, and mainly have a different mindset and chemistry we lacked last year. I personally believe we were just going through the motions the second half of the season. We have a real coaching staff now, that doesn't hurt either.

Tell me more about this pass blocking strength of their O line against such Defensive juggernauts as East Carolina, Delaware St., Kansas, Tex Tech, Baylor, and Kansas St....
I think we will surprise some folks, including yourself.

I agree that this Tennessee team will be different, and improved. The thing is, so will West Virginia. Everyone wants to talk about how this Tennessee team is different than last year, so we shouldn't bring up anything about last year when analyzing this current team, but at the same time they'll reference the fact that West Virginia beat a bunch of scrubs last year so we should pound that rear end. That's homerism at its finest. You can't have it both ways. Bottom line is, Tennessee is the underdog in this game and it'll likely be a very hard fought win if we do win.

Based on number changes I'd say Labruzza and Latrell Williams days are likely not long here. Giving people their numbers in the same side of the ball and not being asked to change you number isn't a good sign

And there is no reason to assume that they won't. And no, I don't believe anything I said was contradictory. I truly believe that none of our players is the same player they have been, no way.
I truly believe that each one of them has gotten better the moment they started being coached by this staff, as opposed to the last staff; if only in just a small way, they're better, and not the same. Different and better in physicality, technique, scheme, practice, attitude, culture, everything. I choose to believe that NOTHING is the same, and that ALL is better, including the pass rush.

I don't think anyone is thinking we are going to waltz in there and just whip their ass or "pound that rear end", it will definitely come down to the end, but answer one question-- you said WV will be improved... Do they have the same coaching staff, practice plan, strength and conditioning plan as last year? Yes.... Do we have the same coaching staff or any of that as last year? No....
There is a clear optimism this year that we didn't have last year in the locker room and on the field. Mindset is half the battle and I think it will carry us farther than most think.

I've never said the first thing about WV; I don't care what they have or don't have; what they did or didn't do last year. Unlike some who love to gush and gush about other teams and coaches other than the one they claim to be a fan of, I look at it like this, if UT does what they are suppose to do, they win. They have the better players, the better coaches, the better program, period

And what I have not seen talked about much but is hugely important. They are required to lift weights now. And if injured they have to go to the pit with Fitz and it is no cake walk. They all look like they have been seriously lifting. I expect marked strength improvement.

All I’ve said is that we will be able to run on them and push them around.

I think it’s pretty fair to say that based on coaching alone, we should go from awful to at least mediocre.

It seems like most of our problems were scheme and gap assignment. It wasn’t as much of just not being athletic enough to run them down or tackle them.

I think most people are just saying if these questions have good answers then we will be in good shape. But for most its getting easier to imagine these things going our way so confidence and excitement is building. I'm all for it. I don't believe in hiding from disappointment by lowering expectations. You can probably tell that by the fact that my expectations have been this high since before spring practice. I'm am well aware of all the questions and understand the skepticism and doubts. I just expect more things to go our way than they have recently. I don't think its unrealistic either. Jmo

I enjoy Doug Matthew’s show but I distinctly remember last summer (2017) he stated emphatically on his show multiple times that the 2017 recruiting class was Butch Jones’ best despite the final ranking.

Very telling that Pruitt seems to be skipping over it in a lot of key spots.

I'm not so sure a squib would keep anyone pinned in the 25. First you have to hope it even gets through the up backs, and even if it does the zero hang time doesn't give the coverage team time to get down the field. It's just as likely an upback grabs it at the 40

Just a thought on that, but at least on defense, a lot of butchs previous classes may have fit this system better than his and the 17 class did a better job of actually getting guys that fit his system. Which may have been Doug's point that it was his best class because he actually tried to get guys that fit instead of just getting as many high rated guys as possible and trying to force them into his system instead of either getting better fits or adjusting the system.

For the most part they have the same coaching staff, I would think. We don't know if their practice plan is the same, or their S&C program. Believe you me there was an optimism around Tennessee football going into last season, at least amongst those on here. "Rock gonna get these boys right!!", "Loving this new coaching staff, ELITE!!", "They gone learn", etc.
