NM, this scenario would be kick-catch interference on the part of the kicking team. But, the rule change does change a shift in strategy to a more squib kick heavy approach. I would explore squibbing it almost every time, especially if the kicking team doesn't have a kicker who can get it to the endzone.
Either onside kick or force a touchback. There's not much benefit in between.

What dumbass eats food from Starbucks
Well, guess that’s me... we were on vacation and Starbucks was the closest to grab a quick breakfast one morning when we were in a big hurry. Good banana nut bread and pumpkin bread. Also their egg and sausage sandwich was good too.
Guess that I was a hungry dumbass...😳

Hard to rush the passer when nobody throws a pass. If last year is a good indication then our pass defense will be incredible. We gave up like the 3rd least pass yards in the nation last year.
Eh, Colton Jumper managed to scrape together 6 sacks. It’s not like teams only passed 5 times a game on us. If any of our guys were big time pass rushers, they’d have flashed more than they did last year.

I’m sure we’ll get to the QB more this year because we’ll put ourselves in better position to have success pass rushing if we improve our run defense. But I think we’re gonna have to bring blitzes to get it done. I don’t have too much faith that our front 4 can do it alone.

Pass rush is absolutely a concern with a young/inexperienced secondary

We better get some heat on QBs this year. Think we’ll be improved, but by how much? Will be fun (hopefully) to watch our guys grow

Also Bryce Thompson switching from 10 to 20 tells me he’ll be on the field the same time as Byrd.

Guessing those might be our KRs on the opener

There are obviously questions because we don't know. I'm not gonna assume they're bad just because we don't know the answer yet though. We'll find out soon.

I don’t mean to say they’re going to be bad, just that we shouldn’t assume that our DL will be giving Grier hell all day.

Just want to come in and say thanks to everyone for supporting us right now. @5FingerVolPunch @butchna @LaagerVol . it definitely helps right now. I've spent about 7 grand on it and owe the lawyer another thousand. Paying 500 a month right now which has put us very far behind. Y'all are helping so much though. I'm ready to finally be able to sit down and watch a game with the kids though.

I have a 6 month old daughter and now understand a love that I had never felt before we had her. Breaks my heart every time I see something like your story now. Glad to help. Wish I could do more. Enjoy your upcoming Saturdays buddy. GBO

At least you know it 😉

That doesn’t mean it’s unreasonable to question how much better our DL has gotten at pass rushing in one offseason.
I would agree, absolutely, if this was the same team, same coaches, same players, same schemes and philosophy's; but, none of that is the same, nothing.
But, you are right...it's not unreasonable to question and wonder. What I'm saying is, last year has absolutely no bearing on anything this year, because everything is different. Jonathan Kongbo was a 270lb DE/DT last year...this year, he's a 250lb OLB/MONSTER!

They gave up 208 yards a game on the ground in the pass happy Big 12 and we’re gearing our entire offense for a power running attack.

I stand by what I said.

Using your logic, our run D was what 122nd in the nation, giving up 223 yards a game (or something absurd like that)? So, WV will be able to run all over us. We'll be playing from behind, and our running game won't be a factor. Instead we'll be forced to play catchup which frequently means relying on explosive pass plays. Oh, but, we are gearing up for that power running game because we haven't the confidence in our passing game - unlike WV's passing game. That means their DL and our run game, as you point out, won't win us the game. It especially means that we will not blow them out with our running game if the bbestie running game can do is exchange blow for blow.

Further more, if we can improve, they can too. They took steps to improve by adding experience, depth and talent to that DL. We're not certain what they have. We aren't blowing anyone out based on the stats and star ratings, nor last year's rankings.

So yeah this will be a dog fight and a hard fought win for UT. But, nothing worth being cocky about. We can tart strutting when we have a winning streak against every team in the SEC, rather than a losing streak against every team. Each win will help our confidence, and will get us closer to being rightfully boastful. But as of now, we have a lot of work to do. The team, I expect, will have that mind set, and the fans should too.

The bolded part contradicts itself.

I’m hoping we have a bunch of guys who will all look like new players this year, but realistically we’re probably not gonna see that happen for all of them. I’m hoping we see Kongbo finally put it all together, but we don’t even know how much he’s gonna play over DT at OLB. Tuttle had the upside at one point, but we don’t know if he’ll be his old self or not or how healthy he’ll stay. Phillips will have a good year, I think, but the scheme change probably means our primary edge rushers will be the OLBs in most cases. Alexis Johnson hasn’t really flashed anything on Saturdays yet.

I’m sure we’ll see them all play better this year. But there’s no reason to just assume they’ll beast out against WVU at all.

Either onside kick or force a touchback. There's not much benefit in between.

Squibbing it would result in them being inside the 25 most likely. It would also improve chances of recovering the ball after a few wobbles, bounces, hitting off players, etc. It will also nullifies the speed of the return man who most likely can't get possession of the ball in stride.

Onside kick isn't a great option. The likelihood of recovery is still low, ball travels out of bounce frequently tacking on a few yards to the end of the play with the penalty, and onside kicks frequently result in giving the other team better field position than the 25yd line.
