Vols Practice Thread #18

"Time will tell how the lineup actually fares, but I think the Vols’ coaching staff feels pretty alright with Shy Tuttle, Kyle Phillips, Alexis Johnson, and Emmit Gooden right now." Now this is what I like to hear!
Need at least two more that they feel “pretty alright with” for depth imo.

I’d throw Tuttle in there as well. That guy just busts right through the middle of opposing lines.
He does? Last year in 9 games played he had 2.5 tackles for loss and no sacks. Not trying to be a downer here, but let’s keep it realistic, shall we?

27th! Or thereabouts...

Loved reading this about Bituli!!!
If you like what you saw from Daniel Bituli last season, then I have good news for you: He looks like he’s going to be even better this year. I’m impressed with how much he’s increased his explosiveness off the whistle, and he’s become even more athletic and physical.

Dude...logic and rational thought have no place in the preseason. This is the time for rag dolls, laser beams, tackling machines and touchdown dreams.

I have a friend who played nose tackle in the NFL for five years. He told me that he never missed a game in college or the pros due to injury. He credits that to merely being taught to practice and play the correct way.
That's really hard to believe unless you are Wolverine.

He wasn’t fully healthy. Why do you think the UGA player put a dirty hit on him when he was? He couldn’t be stopped.
You mean 2015, when he was a freshman? And had 3 solo tackles, no tackles for loss and no sacks? Although he showed some potential that year prior to the dirty cheap shot by Kublanow, he could indeed “be stopped”.

I thought Kongo looked a bit more explosive at the end of the second video. We need him to make an impact this year.

He’s a DT and was a force in the middle. You don’t take out a player that’s doesn’t mean squat to a defense.

-Jesse Simonton

-Nathanael Rutherford

-Patrick Brown

Our 1st and 2nd team across the board vs WVU is just freaking better. Not sure I would trade any player for any of their's at the moment. Only consideration would be Grier but I'll wait and see how our QB performs during the game. I just have a feeling that we are going to see a massive improvement in JG because the line is going to be worlds better.

Tennessee’s defensive line looks set to be big, fast, and aggressive. Time will tell how the lineup actually fares, but I think the Vols’ coaching staff feels pretty alright with Shy Tuttle, Kyle Phillips, Alexis Johnson, and Emmit Gooden right now.

-Nathanael Rutherford

I'm not familiar with Mr. Rutherford...…..but, this assessment is a breath of fresh air..... if credible
Me and Tommy Boy we likey!!....Grier running for his life afraid to throw the ball that's what we want.

whether we run a 4-3 or 3-4, we're gonna need at least four DL ready to start. biggest concern is the depth after those four guys. do we know of any other guys they can plug in the DL?

I know it’s already been said, but the entire team looks faster, most noticeably Tuttle and Phillips.

If Kyle Phillips hasn’t lost a step he has the potential to be Barkevis Mingo.

Shy Tuttle has the potential to be a Glen Dorsey type disruptor.

I'm pretty sure this happened today:

Pruitt: "Hey guys, listen up, aight? The media is gonna be in here for about 5 minutes, and then proceed to talk like they watched us for 3 hours. So, I'm gonna just take some of these black jerseys and throw them randomly, and yall put them on, and we're gonna mess with them today. Then when they leave, we can act like a football team again. Darrin, okay, fine, you can do crap during the 5 minutes today, just do it slow and awkward looking. Coach, make it seem like he's doing a good job jogging like a crippled 4 year old. Goodness, I hate the media. Okay, ready? Hey media, come on in, gonna show yall the real deal today!"

Shy was seriously on the path to a high round draft pick before he got injured. If he would have remained healthy, he would have been drafted last year, no questions asked, and possibly first round. Tuttle prior to injury was extremely disruptive. Hoping he can get back to that and thrive in this system.

All I’m trying to do is inject a little reality here. Is he a talented player who once had great potential before the injuries? Yes. Has he ever been unstoppable or a “force in the middle”? No.

Unstoppable Force is probably a bit strong, yes. Lol.

He has displayed the ability to be a dominant guy on the inside.

Really hoping he stays healthy so we can see what he can do for a whole season.

Completely agree, I think with the right coaching he can get back to close to that.

Big, Physical, and disruptive everything you want in a NT/DT
