LT is much more important that RT. If he gets his job taken at RT you can’t just throw him in at LT.

His best position is RT. He has been our LT because Butch promised it to him and because he knows it’s the money position in the NFL. But at this point he just needs to do what is required to even get drafted.

10 years ago i would agree with you. But both tackle positions are equal now and maybe even RT more important. Most of the elite pass rushers like Von Miller, Khalil Mack, joey bosa, vic Beasley etc rush almost exclusively off RT.

So Ron is Ainge and Gucci is Swain? On that note, Swain has been pretty positive from what I've seen lately, especially about JG. Granted I don't listen to either, just see what's reported in here. And I would also say there is a very small possibility that I align more with the way Ainge see's things.
i go back and forth. i will say this, i listen to both, and it's weird to hear both swain and ainge signing basically out of the same hymnal.

i'm almost wanting Ainge to chill out to off set Swain's positive outlook. lol.

all that said, i still think Ainges is more pie in the sky. but you have to take swain with a grain of salt. while he's not full on "hot take" radio, there are elements of that in his show.

as usual, i think the truth generally lies in the middle, no matter which one you lean towards.

Also in all those Currie texts, Ainge made it pretty clear he’ll say whatever the program wants him to say.

His breakdown and film and schemes is really great but I don’t care for any information/opinions he gives. Brian Rice is totally the same.
If that's the case, then the program wants him to say that JG is the starter. Which would be weird since you seem to think the program wants KC. Counter intuitive to say the least.

Left tackle is still more important. The qb blindside. Always has been

I think we should beat WVU. Should. But we have to beat UF in Neyland. Losing our first SEC home game against a hated rival, on a huge celebratory weekend, right before heading into murderer's row would be terrible for morale. UF was 4-7 to our 4-8 last year, and we get them with a new HC in Neyland. That's the pivot point of the season, IMO.
agreed. but no pressure. lol.

Of the things we’ve seen so far from Pruitt, his roster management has been absolutely impeccable. We’ve lost only 2 guys, and he’s plugged holes at our major deficiencies on the team. Pruitt has been super careful with getting guys back from injuries as well. He’s making all the right moves imo from a roster standpoint.
agreed, and i think that continues this season with how this staff apparently will rotate guys. there's more than evaulation reasons as to why so many guys are getting so many reps in camp. they will need guys to spell. i think that bodes well for the prospects of staying relatively healthy thru out the season, and something i think that's worth keeping an eye on.

could almost see them doing "pitch counts" for certain guys, and as long as the game situations allow for it, i expect to see a lot of guys play this year.

I get that but that’s the only reason for that argument. All the premier pass rushers are coming at RT now. The raiders are moving a great Lt in Donald penn to RT and starting a rookie at LT just because bosa and Miller basically.

exactly. and now Butch is gone, and all the sudden we heard "how he really felt". definitley gotta take it all with a gran of salt, and sort of "read between the lines".

Ainge feels pretty certain it’s JG. He also believes JG is gonna tear it up. I can’t help but get a lil excited because Ainge is a qb himself and knows what a good QB looks like.
This morning I listened to VQ podcast from yesterday (so this might be old news) and Price thinks JG is a lock as starting QB and that he has been for awhile. He thinks they brought Chryst in to be the experienced solid backup.

Simonton thinks McBride leaves after this season so bringing in 2 QB's will be a must unless Shrout gets some good PT this fall, with the new 4game redshirt rule, and shows he's a future baller. Then maybe they don't push for Taulia and just go with Maurer. Price thinks they bring in 2 QB's regardless.

Yep. That's the concerning part. UT teams have been known to crumble under pressure, especially when it's hoopla-induced. Let's hope that's all in the past.
honestly, i don't feel like this staff is built like some of hte ones we've had in the past, where the pucker factor creeps in. just a feeling. we'll find out soon enough. but i definitely don't think they're going to make that game bigger than it is.

for us, as fans, we have the baggage....and bring the 6-21 record with us. i don't think this staff cares about that. and honestly, as fresh starts go, could it get any fresher for both UF and TN to be coming off 4 win seasons and both having new coaches at the helm?

no reason for us to be "scared" of UF at this point. even game, at home. we'll see what happens. obviously, all of us as fans would like to see us get off on the right foot in this "new edition" of the UF/UT rivalry.

I think one or both of them will eventually take over as starters but Carvin is a true freshman and Calbert is healthy for the first time ever and needs to develop confidence in his legs first. I would think at this point Locklear has way more experience and I would imagine significantly better technique, which can be far more effective than pure power with less technique at this level, so beginning of the season he is probably the safer more reliable option.
This is exactly right. I don't know is we're gonna be very competitive with many teams if we have to play too many freshmen a bunch. I hope I'm wrong but I doubt it. You need seasoned vetrans playing to

OL for WVU is looking like Smith, Locklear, Kennedy, RJohnson and Richmond/Hall. Richmond is best at RT and can slide over to LT when needed. Decent OL for a power run game, especially against a weak D like WVU's.

Someone mentioned earlier that we go as Richmond goes... I really hope this kid is finally ready to step up and maximize his potential. The strength and scheme knowledge should be there, now the kid just has to buy all the way in and straight ball out. If we get meaningful reps out of Hall each game, that will be icing on the cake. Now there's a kid where there is no question of his fight and determination...

It's not a regular rivalry game. It's the 20th celebration of the '98 NC and it will be a Who's Who weekend in Knoxville. Fulmer expects a W and there won't be a person in that locker room who doesn't know it. It's a day and a game that matters... but I agree that PruittCo will manage it all much better than past staffs did.

just thinking about in terms of what we've tended to think about the UF/UT game as fans.

i do agree, that particular weekend is a "stand alone" when you consider the anniversary celebration and the recruiting visitors that will be in town for that game. it'll be game 4 (which is actually a game later than usual for the UF/UT game iirc) so hopefully we'll still be healthy, and a tad seasoned by then. they'll likely be 3-0 coming in, and i'm sure pretty confident. you could argue they may be a little more tested than us, having gone against CSU and KY...do those two games trump playing WVU and two FCS?

i also wonder how much Will Friend will be able to learn from watching the CSU tape.........just thought of that. don't know if it makes a difference, but he's obviously familiar with CSU personnel and coaches. terry fair as well. not sure how interesting that is or not?

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but it doesn't matter if you have an All-American LT if you're weak at guard and center. I think you build an O-line from inside to the outside, not vice versa.
