We don't have elite players at every position, but we're good enough to beat a lot of teams on our schedule. Opening against WVU will show us how much some of these guys can step up. And some are likely to get leapfrogged as the newer guys get some game experience. We'll continue to get better -- but our schedule may disguise that.
Steal one from WVU or Florida, and then if we’re getting better throughout the year I have no issue saying we could win out starting with South Carolina. Wouldn’t predict that happening but that’s the formula for the best case scenario.

I wouldn’t completely rule out that Auburn game either. I’ve got some money on Malzahn as first SEC coach fired at 20/1. They’re nuts down there and it’s conceivable they could be 3-3 going into our game with rumors swirling that Malzahn is done. Maybe we capitalize on the mess?

Agreed. But. Trey>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Drew
in fairness, you could insert almost anyone's name in the country for Drew Richmond's in that equation.

richmond is definitely a question. but the upside he presents for this team's outlook, if he's good, is gigantic.

LT is much more important that RT. If he gets his job taken at RT you can’t just throw him in at LT.

His best position is RT. He has been our LT because Butch promised it to him and because he knows it’s the money position in the NFL. But at this point he just needs to do what is required to even get drafted.
I didn't say he would get his job taken at RT. I said they could use the opportunity to get Hall to his best position, RT, and slide Drew over to allow Trey to get to his best position, LG. I agree he's better at RT, but like I said, I think he has a good shot at living up to his potential this year. He has experience at LT and with the work he's put in plus the coaching of Will Friend I could see him being pretty good there, thus allowing the line to get it's best 5 on the field. You are only looking at the idea that he is always going to suck. I am saying he has a chance to live up to his potential and if he does, then that is our best line. That is why I stated specifically "best case scenario". I get skepticism with Drew. I have skeptism about Hall. I am not expecting him back. But if you can't even give him a shot in a best case scenario hypothetical then I would say you have completely written him off and this debate will go nowhere.

i think that's the hope. and we'll be coming off a bye, so if we're healthy, there's certainly a scenario that exists that says that's a prime upset opportunity.

i just hate where the USCe game is on the schedule. and it's on the road. i think it'll be competitive, but playing UF, UGA, Bama and Auburn right before, even with the bye in there, still makes that game look fishy at best.

hard to speculate on it right now, because those November games look a lot harder if we come out of the USCe game and we're hobbled at certain spots. most of my prognostication on the back half of the season really depends on how healthy we are when we get there.

I agree. I didn't say Drew was better or even as good as Trey. My point was, in a best case scenario with all of the OL healthy and playing to their potential, that gets our best 5 on the field. I don't understand why even in best case scenario's people can't in their wildest dreams imagine Drew being even serviceable at LT.

Of the things we’ve seen so far from Pruitt, his roster management has been absolutely impeccable. We’ve lost only 2 guys, and he’s plugged holes at our major deficiencies on the team. Pruitt has been super careful with getting guys back from injuries as well. He’s making all the right moves imo from a roster standpoint.

Ainge feels pretty certain it’s JG. He also believes JG is gonna tear it up. I can’t help but get a lil excited because Ainge is a qb himself and knows what a good QB looks like.
here's what i'll say about ainge and his optimism....and you can apply the same logic to Swain when he's negative....

when Ainges starts talking about there being problems...it's probably worse than he's saying it is. when Swain is saying something is good, it's probably better than he's saying it is.

personality wise, ainge has a more positive outlook on things and generally is looking for silver linings no matter how small they may be. and swain, sometimes he will make mountains out of mole hills because his personality tends to have a more pessimistic outlook.

so if Ainge is spitting sunshine, i might look for a little shade, it's probably not as bright as he's making it out to be. if Swain is predicting rain, it's probably more of a scattered shower, and you may not actually need the umbrella the whole time. lol.

I think we should beat WVU. Should. But we have to beat UF in Neyland. Losing our first SEC home game against a hated rival, on a huge celebratory weekend, right before heading into murderer's row would be terrible for morale. UF was 4-7 to our 4-8 last year, and we get them with a new HC in Neyland. That's the pivot point of the season, IMO.

I don't often see this mentioned but it's my understanding Jeremy Pruitt was a high school quarterback who also played defensive back. Reportedly he was recruited to MTSU as a QB before being moved to DB. I'm just guessing but it's possible the only reason he went to MTSU was to have an opportunity to play QB. Once the move was final at DB he eventually headed back home to play DB for Stallings.

So Ron is Ainge and Gucci is Swain? On that note, Swain has been pretty positive from what I've seen lately, especially about JG. Granted I don't listen to either, just see what's reported in here. And I would also say there is a very small possibility that I align more with the way Ainge see's things.

Ainge is a qb, so I would consider him an expert in this area. I don’t believe Ainge would just glorify a qb that doesn’t have it. He’s not a fan of Chryst, and he’s made it clear

I’m pretty sure Ainge was pumping up QD this time last year too
