The only real personell situation issue I have is at QB. I am honest in this. I just do not think KC is a good QB at all, and I don't think he has any potential to mine either. I think the offense is going to look like 2005s with him at QB, only worse.
BUT...I hope he makes a fool out of me IF he gets chosen to start. I am not posting this to continue my ongoing diatribe about this, I am just answering your question.
I’m not sure that Pruitt even cares about having a world class qb- he comes off to me as a guy who wants to have control of the game and he wants to hold all the cards. If that’s the case, then really you just need an average qb that can make some plays and not screw up. I don’t think he’s going to give one guy the playbook and let him go to town.Even if we are truly looking at two average QB's at best, I am hoping this new staff's ability to change the culture, attitude, and their ability to finally maximize player potential/development helps to mask and overcome average QB play.
From what we've all read (believe to what extent you want) about the negative/toxic culture within this program over the past few seasons, I have to believe there's much more talent and potential on this team than what took the field last year. There will be a noticeable difference in discipline, scheme, and fight on the field that may overcome QB play.
For you Athletic readers or posters that are interested, they just added full Nashville coverage. They've hired familiar faces to cover the Preds (Vingan), the Titans (Glennon) and college sports (dear friend of the board Trav Haney). David Ubben's stuff will also be featured there.
If you go by the qbs he's recruiting (Shrout and Maurer) and the offensive assistants he's hired, then I don't get the vibe that is what he wants. Both of those qbs are big armed guys that throw deep a lot and threw a lot of picks in hs. Doesn't seem like he's just wanting guys who don't screw up to me. Maybe that's all orchestrated to confuse WVU though.I’m not sure that Pruitt even cares about having a world class qb- he comes off to me as a guy who wants to have control of the game and he wants to hold all the cards. Honestly, he's the only one I think would be better than what we currently have, and that's no slight on Weinke. He's got a very good resume.
ha...on that last part. i think he wants a qb that can stress a defense. figures a HS qb's interecepiton issue may just be because he's in HS and doens't understand all the how/why things happen. w/the right coaching, a kid like that, can be a weapon if used correctly aginst a defense. If you go by the qbs he's recruiting (Shrout and Maurer) and the offensive assistants he's hired, then I don't get the vibe that is what he wants. I agree with all that. I just don't get the same notion as many on here that he just wants game manager QBs, and I'm basing my opinions on his recruiting and hiring tendencies, not his words. I know he like every coach doesn't want a guy to throw a bunch of ints. And certainly thinks he can coach it out of them. But Pruitt also doesn't strike me as the conservative type just because saban was. i think as a defensive coordinator, he knows what he doesn't like to see. he doesn't like big powerful offensive lines. he doesn't like big, fast, powerful backs that are hard to tackle, he hates TE's that are a match up nightmare against most LB's and he probably hates big rangy WR's with huge catch radiuses.
and i'm sure he hates QB's that can place the ball down field and make the defense chase.
so offensively, pruitt probably just thinks "i hate this....." and then goes and finds it.
just a theory.
agreed. and i think people are having a somewhat difficult time with reconciling all of this with what may be a more conservative approach in 2018.I agree with all that.
