One thing that was useful for me was the YouTube videos showing assembly. Seems like YouTube has banned them.
I have that knowledge...

That's cheap enough. Detest that stock but easy to change.Go to Primaryarms.com. They have a bunch to choose from and they’re dir cheap righ now. You can get this for $399;
Radical Firearms 16" 5.56 NATO 1:7 Carbine Length M4 Rifle - 15" M-LOK FCR Gen3 Rail FR16-5.56M4-15FCR3
I did own a RR to start with. Bought a completed upper. Then a empty lower.

If he's in Knoxville or close by I might be persuaded to sell him one of my 23.![]()
I've avoided those 80% lowers for two reasons:I'm always running g through there working or going to look at barns.
Not sure if you would try to whip me after all the Swiss cake roll joked I have made though. Haha.
I even considered buying one of the incomplete lowers that you finish drilling the holes on because the fact that the gubment won't know anything about it appeals to me. But I don't know anyone with one of the jigs to finish completing it.
What are you guys thoughts on the Piston driven cycling systems on AR's versus the normal gas system?
I have read that they are more reliable and less prone to jam.
I made a post about it somewhere, not sure which thread specifically. Regardless, the idea they are "more reliable" is a myth. If one builds a direct impingement AR with quality parts, it'll run just fine. Properly oiled and feed it good ammo and you likely won't ever have a problem outside of parts breaking.
Piston systems are expensive as well as not having a set industry standard. Everyone has some differences in their designs so no two parts (generally speaking) are interchangeable. I have one, like it, but it's no more "reliable" than my standard ones.
Should I make him spend more money?
Israelis take that shooting stuff pretty serious. Midway has the 5.56 on sale pretty regularly.You've cost me a bit, but I'm pretty pleased with where I ended up.
I am, however, surprised you didn't tell me about IMI ammo. SGAmmo carries it, and from what I've seen, it's better than the Federal "XM" loads. The IMI 69gr SMK round is laser-guided...at least for me.

Go to Primary Arms or Palmetto State Arms. You’ll find plenty of options in or under $500.
Have one and love it. It was my first AR and it hasn't given me one problem since I've owned it. Not a lot of "better" choices in that range but a lot of different brands and features.The link up thread lead me to Primary Arms. I found mostly stuff I hadn't heard of, and the internet can't give the slightest consensus on. The S&W is a know brand. Is it bad? Is there a better choice in that price range? I was hoping for some input on where to start, beyond the obvious.
