Get 6-7 wins and it is a solid season.

Just not a fan of preemptive excuses for coaches. Seen it. Luckily, we seem to have a guy that is all about results.

My view is that there is a fine line between reasonable explanations and excuses. I’m all for coaches not making excuses and finding ways to scheme around their roster limitations, etc. But if there are some big indications going into a year that it will be tough slog, then as a fan I take those indications as reasonable explanations for why we may struggle.

This year, there are plenty of reasons to expect a struggle. Among many others, I find it notable that no one in the national or regional media expects us to even be potential a “surprise” team. Almost universally, everyone on the outside looking in sees little to be excited about and has at 5-7 or 6-6. Even Ubbin, the new athletic writer, seems to be saying we have big talent deficiencies. The only ones thinking we can exceed expectations seem to be former players/coaches (Ainge; Matthews) and Tennessee fans themselves (I.e., folks with orange colored glasses).

I just don’t see a path a breakout surprise season this year. I like Pruitt a lot and am pulling for him to be the guy. But I think this year will be a slog. I think we see a jump in year 2. Year 3 is where I expect to make noise.

I’ve got Florida winning that game before the season begins, but my finger is on the trigger to flip the switch on that once I see a lil football

Yeah, I agree with this. According to many gator fans and writers, the gators only problem has been lack of QB play/development since Tebow. So they go out and hire a guy with a pretty good record of developing QBs, or at least DT QBs. If true, the turnaround in Gainesville should be easier, and quicker, than the one in Knoxville.

But I could quickly change my mind depending on how the gators look early against UK and CSU, and how we look against WVU.

Ainge is pumping sunshine like he’s alshon Jeffrey at a Pilot

If we could win our last 4 it would be huge for the perception of the program and would help recruiting. We would be bowling as well

Really random thought here but i was thinking of the best teams that had bad years here.

Two that stick out to me was the 05 team (fulmers first losing season). The team was great defensively but just couldn’t find it on offense.

And

Dooleys last year where basically every offensive player was on a NFL roster at some point and we score like 35+ in 4 road games and lose. We are also damn good special teams wise that year.

Who do you all think would win?
Fulmers 05 team 24-17...Sunseris defense couldn't hold water.

Yeah guy! Everyone knows you only choke punch your bae outside camp dates!
I mean...would it be any better if it was another time of year?
lol of course its not ok to ever do it but during the summer theres so much more free time and in fall camp the season is right there. Figured there would be more hesitation to even get involved in anything in fall rather than summer.

05. Bray crapped himself every time he faced a good defense and CPF wouldn’t have needed to throw a pass to score plenty.

Is it me or is LSU having kind of a dumpster fire offseason? They might be a really bad team this year, and we ought to be able to take advantage of that both on the field and in recruiting.

I was really big on them going into this year but I’m really starting to regret that. Would be curious to see if they do fire O. How big they swing.

Absolutely. Your Ron Swanson's of the world who are barking 8 or 9 wins this year are just going to end up being wrong. What I do expect this first year is to see a football team that looks well coached, competes, and plays physical. If we do these things this year, sign a top ten class, I think we'll be well on our way. Kirby got it turned around in year two, I think we can expect a similar turn around here, only in year three. Year two should be pretty strong though IMO, especially with that schedule.
