Spent a few minutes on a Steelers forum. They are all hot and bothered for Rudolph and want to cut Dobbs. Personally, I've never thought Dobbs would make it as an NFL QB, but the Vol in me still wants to call them numbskulls.

I have to disagree. I've seen both of the Steelers preseason games and Dobbs has outplayed him, imo. Stats also favor Dobbs. Now, yes Dobbs threw a horrible pick 6 tonight, but so did Rudolph. Plus, Dobbs can do so much more with his legs. Now, Steelers fans may know more about what happens in practice than I do. But, if we are only going off the preseason games, Dobbs looks a lot better, imo

In fairness Dobbs has an advantage with in his legs in preseason games because the other team isn't going to scheme much to stop that when it's more about evaluating their own team. I think that makes him a perfect career back-up like Joe Webb has been, or maybe a short term starting QB if the team around him his talented like when Kaepernick took the 49ers to the Super Bowl.

But that plays against him at this point for the Steelers who seem to be looking for the franchise QB of the future, so Rudolph might have more potential to be that when compared to Dobbs

Pretty good thinking here. I agree. He's not the guy you are going to build around, but he could be a nightmare to handle if he has to come in and he's fresh and ready to go for a game or two.

247 has Georgia’s roster up now but it doesn’t look like the 2018 signing class individual ratings haven’t been brought over yet. It looks like the top 40 returning rated players on Georgia’s roster average out to 0.9375 not a huge difference from our 0.9287 though I’ve manually cleaned up our number so it’s far more accurate and all inclusive compared to what I have for some of our opponents. Georgia had a monster signing class in 2018 so this year once 247 completes their update Georgia will be relying on mostly true freshmen to pull away from us in team talent rankings.

In 2018 we signed 3 freshmen above our average and so far in the 2019 class we have 2 players above our average with a few others right around our number. As a minimum after this year we will lose 7 guys from above our average and 2 from our top 40 below our average. I think we need at least a couple more heavy hitters in the 2019 class to hold our position in the top 40 averages. If we can get 3 or more added to this class we’ll likely start moving up a bit.

It looks like Georgia has 61 rated players returning this year from all their previous classes. The average for each of those players is 0.8995. Excluding our freshmen, we have 72 rated players either returning, new JUCOs, or Grad Transfers that average out to 0.8812. That includes some walk-ons who have ratings.

I’m thinking Georgia is going to be perceived as having this humongous talent advantage over us this year and I’m not trying to minimize that but what talking heads may not point out is that the size of that advantage this year is mostly going to be due to their freshman class.

At this point in this preseason I'm not willing to concede that Georgia for us is an automatic loss this year. No doubt if we could pull the upset in Athens it would be perceived as a signature win for Pruitt & Co. of epic proportions.

So how do I think we beat Alabama this year?

In a comment I made a few days ago I pointed out that I define the team as the players + the coaches + the fans.

Fans across the country are generally thought to add about a 3 point advantage to their home team. It’s different for different games and the average is different for different fanbases. At Neyland the average I saw a couple years ago was a bit over 4 points. Against Alabama this year 4 points likely won’t be enough; we need our fans to provide a 28 point home field advantage.

The home field advantage infuses our guys with energy and disrupts the communications of our opponent.

So how do our fans create such an impossible advantage?

I think we need every fan on earth that can possibly make it to be on Rocky Top for the 2018 TSIO. It doesn’t matter if you have to come from China, Thailand, or some other part of Asia. We need you there. We need everybody from Africa, Australia, Europe, South America and elsewhere in North America. We need everyone that can make it. Of course not everyone will be able to get tickets but there will be plenty of tailgates and plenty of ways to get the video. During the game those not inside Neyland need to surround the stadium like it was the walls of Jericho. The Vol walk needs to be manned like never before. Every single ship in the Vol Navy needs to be on the river. From the opening kick to the final whistle our fans need to be engaged on every single play. In the face of adversity we need to get even louder. This has to be the time when our fans play absolutely the best game of their lives.

This year on the TSIO our team will be outmanned and out classed in almost every way. Our only hope to come away with the win is likely our fans. Jmo.

I was going to say snipers in the press box 😁

Of course, if anyone wants to fly me in from Thailand for two days and has an extra ticket, i’ll hop on over

I’ve said multiple times i think Georgia takes a step back this year. They will still be good and win the east but will be 9-3 or 10-2 with some ugly wins in there too.

Just wanted to throw out that all the preseason hype Kongbo is getting is clouding the fact that Daniel Bituli has been absolutely incredible this pre season.

Also Battle at Bristol 2 vs Clemson is happening. 2020 or 2021. I would guess 2021 because in 2020 we already play Oklahoma for our big non conference opponent.

What town did you decide to stay in? Been thinking about going to my old stomping grounds but the town has turned bad the last few years. Wanted to show my son where I grew up.
I booked outside of Phenix City but I know nothing about the area. Should I look for something elsewhere?

Bituli is gonna go nuts this year. Tackling fuel.

Isn't Rudolph going against the first and second string?

They act like some on this website when a freshman doesn't start and a recruit who is ranked the same is an upgrade over said freshman.

I don't think anyone is forgetting about bituli here. Pretty sure everyone just expects him to be awesome so it's not surprising. Most weren't expecting kongbo so he will get discussed more.

None of those guys you mentioned are as good as McCaffrey.

McCaffrey, a generational player, finished 2nd and 9th for a yearly award.

Every guy I've mentioned thus far had a better or comparable college career to McCaffrey.

Here's more

Fournette
Cook
Reggie Bush
Chubb
Henry
Richardson

Dude had 6600 all purpose yards in college...6600. Get out of here with that crap.

i'm just excited to see what Mccaffery can do in year 2 with the Panthers. aside from Kamara, i think he's as versatile a guy as you can get to play the position he plays. it should be a lot of fun watching those two guys in the same division for a long long time hopefully.
