I have a feeling thereās a lot less coddling going on and more of a professional atmosphere where guys are told HOW to realize their potential.
Urban pretty much has final say on everything. He clearly did not want him gone and his actions demonstrate that. They will find their fall guy and slap him on the wrist.exactly. people acting like Urban didn't/doesn't have the authorit to make that call and fire the guy back then vs reporting it to the AD and letting him decide is just freaking naive. he's a decision maker, and certainly doesn't need the oversight of anyone in that administration to fire a staff member that he sees as a problem.
what would the administration really do upon hearing the news that he fired the coach that was beating his wife?
it's completely naive to think that urban did what he was supposed to because he simply followed a protocol.
no, this is actualy more akin to what happened at PSU from a reporting/accountability standpoint. in both cases you could argue, eloquently, that the head coaches invovled, if nothing else, failed to act morally, instead prioritizing football related activities over all else. and as long as there was no heat from above, all is well. all they did was push the CYA button and shift responsibility to someone else. it's a cop out, nothing more, and it worked, cause he'll get to keep his job. well, as long as he continues to win.
can't wait to hear how this whole thing goes over on the recruiting trail when talking to "mamas" all over the place....
Dude has all the tools. That kongbo interview was one of the best I've seen in a long time. He was very well spoken and candid. I felt like I learned a ton about the difference in the program from one coach to the other without him expressly saying anything bad about butch. Just implying. And we learned more about Pruitt coaching than anything else I've seen or read. Been rooting for him and I really think he's finally gonna break thru this year. Getting to the position he should be in will be huge. But one thing people forget is he had only played like 2 or 3 years of football when he got here. He was a physical freak who needed development and is finally getting it.
It's cool I'm not into autographs. And I won't be attending anymore games until I can prove I'm not cursed. haha. I was answering yer question for ivens, whoever that is. I assume he is some pseudo media guy that is obviously not as smart as I am so I was helping. You responded to me with counter points and then I countered back. If the point was only about ivens not being able to name someone, then why not say so then instead of trying to shut down my points. I guess you couldn't counter back to that so yer ending it with a nice jab. Probably a good move. Always fun.

ļøAfter a day in shells in the scorching sun, the Vols were back on the practice field in full pads under the lights Thursday.
The media got to watch about 10 minutes of Tennesseeās 12th preseason practice.
Here are the notable observations and takeaways.
*** During individual OL drills, Trey Smith was back at left tackle for the second straight day. Drew Richmond worked exclusively at right tackle. Weāll see how they line up again tomorrow, but at this rate, Iād expect Richmond to scrimmage there Saturday, with Jahmir Johnson and Nathan Niehaus getting the bulk of snaps at LT.
*** More maintenance days? For the third straight day, redshirt junior linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. was working off to the side during individual drills. The same goes for lineman Chance Hall. Both players did appear to be headed to team work once the media was escorted off the field, though.
Also working on the side Thursday were tight end James Brown, offensive lineman Devante Brooks and Eric Crosby.
*** n a very light drizzle, the quarterbacks threw the ball well during the routes on air period. Both Jarrett Guarantano and Keller Chryst were mainly crisp on in-routes and deeper corners. Cedric Tillman had a helluva snag plucking a wayward pass from Chryst on one rep, while Jordan Murphy and Tyler Byrd continue to illicit confidence.
Notably, though, neither Marquez Callaway or Jauan Jennings ran a single route Thursday. Callaway was wearing a sleeve on his left knee and mimicked some routes in a slow jog. Jennings didnāt even do that, watching the session on the side.
*** Inside linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer was steaming mad Thursday. In a drill focused on tackling ā something Pruitt noted after the first scrimmage was an issue ā Sherrer gave Daniel Bituli, Dillion Bates and Will Ignont the business for not meeting his expectations on technique and effort.
***Overall, the Vols are already starting to curtail reps for guys during individual periods. Itās evident especially with the DL and OL.
*** The OLBs were working on stunts and inside blitzes and then transitioned to reading their keys against the zone-read. Chris Rumph challenged Austin Smith to a push-up contest if he got a question wrong. He didnāt, so Rumph was forced to do push-ups with Darrell Taylor counting out loud.
*** The TEs continue to do a ton of ball security work. Brian Niedermeyer was all over Dominick Wood-Anderson about his technique, screaming, āHold it up, Dom! Higher! Higher!ā
I said that we probably had more talent but the situation there was much better due to the coaching of Shaw and circumstances of the seasons in the respective programs. By the time JG started the team was already gone mentally. I brought up the talent because that was the question you asked and to point out that you were exaggerating their lack of talent. But let's take this point by point. The players you named was a RB who is very comparable to John kelly imo.
A WR who would be 4th at best on our depth chart.
And a solid tight end.
I also donāt see the point in excluding Trey Smith when comparing Offensie lines because when you have a generational talent on the line at any position itās goinf to elevate the rest.
So for instance our offensive line vs USCe:
Trey Smith
Drew Richmond
Brett Kendrick
Marcus Tatum
Jashon Robertson.
We had two 5ļø Starting on the OL too. Although Tatum was a 3

I wouldnāt consider Stanfordās actual players that started on the OL last year ā1000xā better than ours. The difference is David Shaw coaches circles around butch jones and 3/4 of college football.
For example when Stanford played USC week to with KC at QB his oline was
David bright 3ļø
Jesse burkett 3ļø
BRandon Fanaika 4ļø
Devery Hamilton 4ļø
Nate Herbig 3ļø
So are we talking production or talent because on paper i would take our Offensive line over that. Once again it goes back to David Shaw who is a one of the best coaches in football especially offensively.
