'18 GA LB JJ Peterson (Tennessee signee)

Huh?

My post have all been in hindsight if JJ doesn't get in. So yes 256 4 star is better than a higher rated recruit that can't get qualified.

That's the entire point lol
And the point you continue to miss is that JJ is worth the risk. What if we had taken Kennedy (someone we need way more than Lawless), then we took Lawless, and then JJ is good to go? What do you do??
Oops! Sorry, JJ! Sorry, best OLB in the country, we screwed up and took a DL that may not see the field until his Jr or Sr year! We survive just fine losing Lawless; it's a HUGE, MAJOR, PUNCH-TO-THE-HEART blow if we lose JJ.
Yes, a risk if JJ don't make it; but, an even BIGGER risk taking Lawless, thinking JJ won't make it.

I think everyone is misunderstanding my post. I agree with you JJ is worth the risk. I don't blame the coaches for taking the risk. I am just saying in hindsights I'd much rather have a 4 star DT than no one at all.

Color JJ gone. He's going to have to go JUCO if the goes at all. Do I know that for sure? Nope. But the weight of evidence against is crushing any hope he'll still make it in. BUT! His attrition does open a spot for a (very) late qualifier for the class of 18'…...any suggestions?
You're asking for suggestions about a late qualifier, because you don't think JJ can be a...late qualifier? 🤔

And what you're not understanding is there is no reason for said 'hindsight' just yet.

Very true

And about that. It seems obvious to me that JJ has been taking at least one class trying to replace a poor grade on his core with a good one. From following this timeline it appears that he has tried at least twice and failed to get the grade he needed.
I'd guess he is starting the same class over again this week and trying one more time. Fingers crossed he gets it

When only 16 classes are involved replacing a D with an A can jump a GPA by a lot. I'd guess that's what he is attempting to do

Look, if the kid was a no take because of academics and was JUCO bound from the get go, then I could buy what you're saying. However he wasn't. He evidently was close enough academically for our staff to agree to let him sign his LOI and assume he would be eligible for fall camp. However SOMETHING happened between then and now to prevent that and there's no way I believe the situation he now finds himself in has anything to do with improper guidance or learning disability.
He was not close academically. You know it's serious when a teacher or two at his school say off the record that there is no way he would qualify to go to a D1 school. I don't believe in those types of absolutes when it comes to recruiting, but comments like that from people at his school indicate he had a lot of work to do. We're likely talking multiple classes. The reality is that JJ didn't apply himself academically for three or four years of HS, and he's trying to make it all up in one summer. I'm hoping that he qualifies. The kid needs to get out of the town where's he's at and get in an environment where he can get some proper mentoring. I wish Propst would have just come out and said that JJ had a lot of work to do to qualify and that the best case scenario would be a mid August timeline. Constantly pushing the timeline back makes it sound like the kid is doing something wrong, when he's probably busting his tail.

Yeah I'm gonna be surprised if this kid will be apart of the team this year. Think we'll just have to hope he can get in after a year at a JUCO.
