'18 GA LB JJ Peterson (Tennessee signee)

You do you man. I’ll leave the judgements of his personal life up to you.
He fails to recognize how ignorant he is for saying things about someone HE DOES NOT KNOW FROM ADAM. If not for pictures, JJ could walk up and smack him, and he'd have absolutely no idea who it was that had just slapped him; yet, he knows ALL about JJ's academics, family, neighborhood, childhood, on and on and on...

Then how in god's name has this kid managed to stay eligible to even play high school football? We're talking about not being able to meet the minimum just to be eligible to enroll and play at Tennessee, not to get into MIT. How did he manage to put in enough work to stay eligible for 4 straight years of high school? Some of you want to act like he's a "special ed" kid with a learning disability. And he MUST have been pretty close for our staff to have enough confidence to let him sign his LOI. Sounds to me like he got 90% of the way there and then for whatever reason didn't put the work in to complete the other 10%

Rush to me is he issue. He’s a selfish prick. Glad he didn’t get a job here. Made sure this kid was eligible to play for him and that was his main goal. Then hoping he could get eligible for college instead of making sure he did. Been telling us and this kid it would be ok. Hope we get lucky this time.

Look, if the kid was a no take because of academics and was JUCO bound from the get go, then I could buy what you're saying. However he wasn't. He evidently was close enough academically for our staff to agree to let him sign his LOI and assume he would be eligible for fall camp. However SOMETHING happened between then and now to prevent that and there's no way I believe the situation he now finds himself in has anything to do with improper guidance or learning disability.

There were UGA fans who were saying he wouldn't make it in. It was known. Pruitt needed difference makers. He took a a risk. Let it go.

Propst very well could be culpable in all of this. That's what I'm saying. How do these kids manage to remain eligible for 4 years to play for their high schools and then suddenly cannot come up with the minimum requirements to get into a state university? No one is trying to get into Harvard here. The requirements for these players are pretty darn minimal.

Dude, JJ's grades have been discussed for awhile now, even before he signed. This isn't something that just crept up.
Plus, he'll be here! When the calendar strikes Aug. 23, and he's not here, then I'll believe he's not coming.

Propst is the cause for all the anxiety. Pruitt, that I can recall, has never once set a specific date as to when JJ would be here. Propst is the one that kept setting the timeline, then moving it, setting the timeline, then moving it again, over and over.

It's a lot harder for a recruit to get his core GPA up if he waits until SR year. The NCAA locks in the grades of 10 of the 16 required core courses before the start of SR year and those courses can't be retaken to boost the recruit's core GPA. If a HS coach doesn't make sure his D1 recruits are on target academically before SR year, some can't boost their core GPA quickly enough to qualify.

Thank you for the info!

My post was not supporting your position in this. I am not estactic for the like.

BV, I apologize for being so rude. I just think it's pretty absurd for any of us to assume anything when it comes to these kids, especially what they may or may not have gone through, or may or may not be going through.

No problem. I get what you're saying and you're right, I don't know JJ. I don't know his situation. I admit that. I guess what sticks in my craw is at SOME point, this all really does come down to the student putting in the work. You can have all the support in the world but it still boils down to the kid willing to put in the work for 4 years to at the very least meet the minimal requirements to enroll. You can't put a gun to these kid's heads and force them to study. At some point THEY have to care enough to be willing to do what it takes. Most classes, if they just attend, pay minimal attention, and turn in their homework they'll make a C. And let's face it, no one is asking for the moon here. The requirements for these athletes to be eligible to enroll at Tennessee aren't lofty at all.

Color JJ gone. He's going to have to go JUCO if the goes at all. Do I know that for sure? Nope. But the weight of evidence against is crushing any hope he'll still make it in. BUT! His attrition does open a spot for a (very) late qualifier for the class of 18'…...any suggestions?

I have seen some pretty bad situations and it will really break your heart at times.

Good point, unless he got flagged and Propst isn’t being totally forthcoming.
I would think the Tennessee administration would have all the info they need to make that call. I doubt Propst is their only source like he is for the media. Also, Pruitt and Sherrer have both worked for Propst before and know him very well. So him not being forthcoming with the media is probably not the same as the conversations he has with his former assistant coaches. I don't think any of my assumptions here would be classified as going out on a limb either. So until I see some confirmation that he's not in, I will continue to assume he will be a part of the team this fall.

How about #48? If you’re “taking chances”...even more betterer! Potential roster changer instead of filler!

Huh?

My post have all been in hindsight if JJ doesn't get in. So yes 256 4 star is better than a higher rated recruit that can't get qualified.

That's the entire point lol

Our new coach would rather swing for the homerun that helps transform the talent on our roster rather than settle for a meh talent 208 worse. We picked the right guy.
