Coach Mathews is probably going with how it was coming out of spring-- Buchanan and Osborne with Shamburger at nickel and Warrior and Abernathy at S. But IDT they'll keep Tae, Thompson and some of the other newcomers off the field long.
I've lost a little faith in Mathews over the last few weeks. Made the comment last Sunday that Maleik Gray is as fine a CB prospect as he's seen in a long time up there, after the staff had already moved him to receiver lol. I've always enjoyed his shows but he's definitely what I would consider a sunshine pumper. Also put Peterson at a 99% chance that he'd be up here this year, not looking so good now.

Lol we would all gladly take him as OC right now and we know it.
Arguably the best OC in college football, at least when he was one. Won't be surprised a bit if he's down on the bayou next year. If he'll keep his nose clean (big if), I think he'll slay it down there.

It was because FB wasn't a priority. Building buildings and raising money was the priority. Hopefully we've turned the corner with Fulmer as AD and Pruitt as the new HC. We'll have to wait and see what happens with the chancellor and presidents jobs to be sure.

Yep. Hammy was all about spending money, Hart was all about saving it and nobody knows what Bahama John did. It's like we needed three stooges to complete the set.

I like the guy, but damn, he’s been off lately

Sounds like Gray and Byrd are doing as well as some of the others at WR. Maybe the added competition will get all the receivers running crisper routes and aggressively going after balls. It will be interesting to see who ends up in the slot.
i think gray has some work to do, but he's a good athlete, and i'd hope he could find some PT somewhere on the roster..... i really hope Byrd gets where we need him to be. hope he's got it all figured out by now as far as where his head's at, what the priorities are.

Love what Ainge had to say about JG and completely agree. End this competition ASAP and let the team rally around their QB
well, i think Pruitt said they'd want to settle on one relatively quickly for chemistry reasons. i believe, iirc, they only way they won't settle on one is there's just no real separation between the two...and then it would come down to intangibles. i'd be a little surprised (even if it's not made public) if you don't start to see/hear about who's getting more reps with the 1's by next week.

Yeah, he kinda has been. He was very high on last year's team, along with Butch Jones. I think he said before the season last year that the freshman and sophomore classes for that year were some of the finest classes he's seen up there. Just not true IMO. I like him, but he's a sunshine pumper.

Man, if we still had Gaulden, i’d Feel a lot better about our linebackers and secondary
i get that, and i agree. and while i don't think our CB's are world beaters at the moment, i think you can probably feel pretty good about the Star and the Safeties.

and if nothing else, by adding Thompson and Taylor to the CB group, they've at least upgraded the competition level at that position.

I want Gaulden in the Star

We have talented receivers. They just haven't been pushed the past few years. They ran lazy routes and dropped way too many catchable balls. They could have helped the QB out a lot more than they did last year, and it would have been the difference in a few games. Byrd and Gray are both really good athletes. If they can get their heads right, they can contribute. This staff could turn Byrd into a good slot receiver, IMO.

agreed. there's so much to the passing game to keep an eye this year. it'll suck to watch receivers drop catchable balls. not going to worry about it at this point, still week one, 1st day in pads. and the reports we get are only from a period or two, so.........for now, gonna have some faith in coach yac.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Tae and Thompson start-- possibly even Flowers a few games in. Their upside is already apparent. The only lock in the secondary is Warrior, IMO. Having TKJr on the field for leadership would be a plus, especially if we start FR, but not sure how he's going to fit in.
