What aspects specifically, do you think he has to learn?

He seems to coordinate well with his staff. Practice doesn't seem to be a giant cluster ****. He has handled the media so far. Recruiting is going well.

He's a born coach. I think the on field learning is going to be easier for him than a lot of stuff he's already done.

Specifically the talent (or lack of) that he’s working with. Along with little depth he’s going to have to rely heavily on the Xs and Os because his Jimmies and Joes haven’t shown much development under the previous staff.

From what I can tell he’s historically had pretty high end players that definitely made play calling easier. So he may just have to learn to coach smaller, slower, and mentally weaker players until he’s has time to develop them.

I think he'll beat WVU but in the end they won't be good enough to call it a signature win. My guess is UF.

Your P.S. brings up an interesting question. Would it be an empty gesture causing contempt for the Vols program nationwide also locker room wall motivation for Grier and WV -or- would asking for Grier to undergo a drug test before sept 2 be seen as a positive or at least justified given his history, seen nationally as a positive because the Vols seek compliance?

I think we beat W.Va and Fla. Not sure either is your typical signature win with one coming off a 7-6 season and the other 4-7. But both would be huge because of one being his first game and the other his first rivalry game. And it's been relayed to him the importance of beating Fla. W.Va is ranked so both could Technically qualify as signature wins. Really think we win both of them.

I think the big signature win will come when the team plays the style that Pruitt has put in and the style and pace that he wants it to be. If he wins wv that’s a great starting point. Florida isn’t going to be that great beating Georgia or Bama this year would be a signature win and a notice severed to all others were on the way back.

I think we beat WV and Florida but The signature win comes against a ranked Auburn team. It will be their trap game and Pruitt and the staff have a bye week prior to adjust to what we have talent wise. I think Auburn better bring their A game especially if Pruitt gets ticked off at the team during the bye week

What I meant was with the lower level of competition his lower level of talented players offset in high school. How big was that talent gap?

In the SEC his lower level of developed and talented players relative to the higher level of competition creates a new scenario requiring an even higher quality of play calling to net good results.

I’m not saying he can’t but neither am I saying he can. He’ll have to earn respect by winning at this level in this position. I very much hope he does. He seems like a legitimately good guy.

Pruitt will be ticked off at the team if they won big the week before, he won't ever be satisfied..

WV will be the first. FL and SCAR will follow. The best signature win of the season within reason would be Auburn.

The learning curve isn't near as much with a first time HC's who have learned from all the Coach's like Pruitt has. Saban gave JP more responsibilities than any Assistant he's ever had. Saban doesn't put that much trust in just anyone. Yea he has to learn how to be the HC and not be as involved with just the defense. But his learning curve will be much smaller than many first time HC's, who didn't get the HC grooming that JP has in his coaching career. Plus he's got the added recourse most first timers don't have. An AD who was a championship winning, Hall of Fame HC in Fulmer. He will make mistakes on gameday's early on without a doubt, but should be less noticeable than most others. Hell there's 10-20 yr veteran HC's who still make mistakes on gameday's so it's going to happen.

Don't think we see many close wins against the Vandy's, UK's and Umass's of the world. UK lost their best QB they've had in a while and Vandy is just not good and Mason is a horrible HC. Mizzou is another we shouldn't lose to. They have DL and not much beyond that. Odom lost his safety blanket at OC and seriously downgraded with a first time OC in Derek Dooley. No way we should even come close to losing to UK, Vandy or Mizzou this year. The ones picking Mizzou as a loss haven't done their homework on a 7-6 Mizzou team. It's a huge red flag when you go 7-0 vs teams all with losing records and 0-6 vs teams with winning records. That should tell us everything we need to know.

What's wrong with that? Personally I want a HC who is rarely satisfied and always expects more. Not one who said he wasn't disappointed in missing out on a New Yrs Six Bowl and was satisfied with going 9-4 but losing 2 bad SEC games and missing out on the SEC Championship and a major bowl. Yea sign me up for the guy who is content with that and peaks at mediocrity. I prefer the highest of expectations and not settling for anything less. A HC who is never satisfied will reflect that on his players and they will display that same mindset. I'll go with the Pruitt mentality.
