Rivals ranks on top 20. 247 assigns minuscule point totals for lower ranked players. Many are given less than a point.

Average player rating was still good enough for 6th and 10th on both sites.

I think kids knowing exactly what they are getting into, and what is expected of them to win a spot with Pruitt, is going to vastly cut down on players leaving of their own accord.

I do think we will have Saban style "processing" attrition because some guys aren't going to cut it, and roster spots are needed..

agreed. everything you hear from prospects is about how he's been honest with them about the situation we're in, and what is a realistic expectation short term for Tennessee.

It matters for sure.

Butch shouldn’t be the standard. If he’s the standard then that’s an issue on its own.

Recruiting AND development. Get great players. Get the most out of them.

I want Top 5 classes and I want to have them reach their ceilings. It isn’t an either/or proposition. We can do both and should be able to do both.

Yes.

I don't think you need top 5 every year, but consistently top 10ish.

that's fair. and it really doesn't matter what any one person projects at this point, good or bad. are there positives to point to right now about CJP's time in Knoxville? sure. in fact, i'd say on what you can actually judge him on while he's been here, i think it all falls in the category of "so far so good".

I think my biggest issue has been, of all the positives about this staff, thus far, has been eerily similar to last few coaching staffs. They come in, opposite from the last guy, get off to a good start recruiting (for the most part), make a few good speeches, dismiss a few weak links or convince a team leader to stay, bring in a few star coaches/recruits, etc. etc.

Same song, different verse.

I'm not trying to be negative or bring anyone down, and I'll definitely not post much about this, but, while I think it's important, I'm not getting too excited about this staff's ability to recruit right now.

We are STILL one of the most celebrated college football program's in the history of the sport, we have one of the most passionate fanbases in ALL of sports, we have a cathedral of a stadium, the best facilities money can buy, a support staff that can help any wayward athlete with classes, and, regardless of how the last decade, it's still a BIG DEAL to put that power T on.

In other words, this university recruits itself.

but no one can say anything about on the field stuff until we see it.

part of the issue as i see it is that we just changed coaches again, so that 2-3 year clock gets reset for the new guy.

problem is, that clock has already been ticking for fans for 10 years. that's a tough pill to swallow for, as CJP puts it, a HUNGRY fan base.

Desperately hungry. This past off-season showed just how fed up we are with a mediocre product.

cause in many's mind, while the first year for CJP may be bad and that be rational and somewhat expected given the circumstances....the reality is it's just another bad year for us.

so i get it. i think that's why there's so much "right now" or "this season" talk amongst fans. the sense of urgency has been there for a while now, and it sucks to know you might have to be patient again for a couple/three years.

Troof.

I want JP to be the guy. I wanted Kiffin to be the guy...and Dooley...and Butch.

I'm not impatient, because I know it's going to take time but, I'm tired of waiting :)

Kress spoke with Dave Bartoo of CFB Matrix. He is extremely high on Helton. He said USC should’ve kept him that he’s the one who develops the guys and really calls the plays. I’m excited for why Helton’s going to do. Wow, could be night and day different from last year. Here’s to a 4-0 start and heading to Ga as a top 15 team

I think Chatta is Bartoo.

i hear ya. you gotta want to be optimistic, and decide what you are going to be happy about, or at the very least, accept as "moving in the right direction".

The one thing we've seen with Pruitt to this point that we didn't see with the other hires is player retention. With Kiffin, Dooley, and Jones the players left like rats fleeing a sinking ship. So there's that.

I'll say this...

I think JP is a football coach, period. I mean that in the most positive sense. I think the guy can coach. He's proven it.

I'm just hoping that he's able to continue that as a HC.
