Player development doesn't matter? Butch signed a couple top 5 classes. How'd that work out for him?
Actually, '14 and '15 were high player averages and elite classes on paper.fake news. 60+ recruits between the two classes. low player average, big points total.
and we didn't develop enough of them for it to matter, and nor did enough of them stick around or make it.
which is why i'm more inclined to trust what i'm seeing from this staff when it comes to evaluations.
i'm like everybody else, i want all the best players too. but i feel like what this staff is doing from a process standpoint is waaaay more sustainable than what we've seen from any of the previous 3 staffs we've had since Fulmer.
for that reason only, i'm not worrying until there's a reason to.
Ron, buddy, I get it. Youre inclined to defend anything/anyone wearing that power T. Weve done this for three football staffs at this point. You defended Dooley and Butch until you couldnt anymore. Thats your schtick. And its great! It gets you a ton of likes on this here message board. I really do commend you for it.
However, it does not change the fact that I believe Pruitts recruiting hasnt been good enough - TO THIS POINT - to bridge the gap between Tennessee and the top competitors in the conference. It doesnt mean it wont get better - and Id actually bet that it will - but up until that point Im not going to be happy taking these 3 star diamond in the rough prospects because this staff can develop them and identify talent better that x, y, or z. Id rather take the 5 star guys everyone else wants. And I want more of them than anyone else gets.
We all have our roles to play, I suppose.
Shouldve been the starter all year 🐸☕️The plays that Callaway alone had in this highlight video have me excited. Can't wait to see what he can do. JG had some great passes last year as well, especially with the pressure he was under. Can't wait to see what he can do with a real coaching staff

Kress spoke with Dave Bartoo of CFB Matrix. He is extremely high on Helton. He said USC shouldve kept him that hes the one who develops the guys and really calls the plays. Im excited for why Heltons going to do. Wow, could be night and day different from last year. Heres to a 4-0 start and heading to Ga as a top 15 team

Still gotta wonder whether weve got a Brandon Doughty or Sam Darnold on campus or just a couple Max Brownes
Given the staff's pedigree, I'm inclined to believe they'll develop players better than the previous regime BUT...I'm 110% jaded now. There's not a staff in the world, aside from Belichek, Urb, and Saban, that I would trust with my team.
I like JP. I think he's got the background and acumen to succeed but....show me.
I'll root for him, hope he does well, and be in his corner but, until I see the product on the field for a while and some real W's, I'm not looking at the off-the-field stuff as proof-positive of good things to come. Not judging those who do, that's just me.
eh, 2014, the average was .8950 with 32 signees. we were the only class in the top 10 with 30+ signees and there were 3 classes ranked lower than ours in the top 20 that had higher ratings.
in 2015 we had 30 with an average of .8948. there were only 2 teams int he top 20 w/30+ signees, and there were 6 classes in the top 20 ranked lower than ours w/higher player averages.
no way to know this for sure, but if we would have had the hard cap we have today, or the ESD, i'm not convinced those classes get in to the top 7 w/out the high # of signees.
and again, even if you accept both of those classes as "elite" per Bama/GA/OSU/FSU type standards, the attrition both of those classes took was ridiculous, so in the end, it just didn't matter.
all things to pay attention to going forward on Pruitt's recruiting. and as of right now, i just see a big difference on the type of evaluation being done, and type of player they go after, regardless of their rating.
and given that we've only had 2 kids transfer since he got here, i would hope that bodes well for the attrition rate going forward, which was way too high under Jones.
