That's a high road answer...

and I don't disagree...

...but the last thing I need more of in my life is a bunch of entitled people raised by selfish and irresponsible parents

two sides to every coin

Well let me tell you about my stance on discipline in the schools....

1. Get a big ole paddle and drill a few holes in it to reduce the air resistance.
2. Whoop the gall dang britches off of the foul mouthed rude little ankle bitters while they are young. If the parents don't like it, they can either fix the problem at home so the little window lickers treat their teachers with respect, or they can find somewhere else for their kids to go during the day.
3. Release well behaved and well mannered children into the world.

Perhaps it is over simplified but that's it in a nutshell.

Thanks for the article and nice post.

On a separate yet somewhat related note, I especially enjoy being lectured to by people who argue in support of abortion yet find it inhumane and unacceptable that illegal immigrants are being stopped and detained at our borders.

Yes!!!!

"Oh the children! Look at what you are doing to the children!

(Cell phone rings...)
Hello? More tax payer dollars for killing babies? Put me down for a Yes vote!
(Hangs up phone)

Oh the children! Look at what you are doing to the children!"

Hypocritical batages.

Corporal punishments has pretty much been proven to cause more harm than good

Physical punishment of children: lessons from 20 years of research

I personally don't spank my kids. However, if I ever hear about them being rude to an adult or back talking a teacher..... Well it won't happen because my kids are taught that they will respect adults, period. The schools are simply not allowed to discipline any more, at all. The kids run the show and do what they want. Parents don't care. If you don't want to allow spanking in school then I'm fine with that. However, schools should have some recourse. If your kid misbehaves repeatedly and you don't fix the problem at home then you should have to make other arrangements for your child. They still have to go to school, but they are no longer welcome in the public school due to behavioral issues. The parents should have to figure it out, the teachers shouldn't have to deal with bratty little twerps while they are trying to teach.

Funny story...corporal punishment was used on occasion at the high school I attended (1967-71) and it was implemented by our principal, Dr. Malone. There wasn't a guy in high school that didn't dread visiting Dr. Malone. A friend of mine got in trouble one day and was sent to the office. Dr. Malone was out that day and the office sent him to the football offices where he was paddled by one of the coaches. He returned to class about 20 minutes later with a grin on his face and told us that although he got whipped, he had avoided Dr. Malone.

However, he did take this good fortune to heart and never had to visit the office again.

I like it...

And it was foolproof until you left that loose end dangling... gotta flesh this thing out...

Do they:

1) Go on an assembly line belt straight to a meat grinder? (sort of a post-birth abortion)
2) Get recycled to sweatshops so we can compete with China for low-level labor costs?
3) Get sent to a vocational elementary school for low-intelligence-requirement non-trade positions (Fast Food Manager/Stripper/Prostitute/DMV Employee/Retail clerk/Waiter-waitress/Reality TV Star)

OR

4)Start a nationally televised hunger games for the right to earn your way back into society...

feel free to add your own option here... just throwing some ideas out there

Corporal punishment is like sugar in kids. There is no direct link between sugar and energy spikes (sugar rush) and yet you give a child sugar and they're bouncing off the walls. Same for CP. Research says it doesn't work but in reality it does. Fear of punishment is a great motivator. Greater than want of reward in many cases

Well the difference is that research has shown that the sugar rush is a myth and that by telling an observer a child has eaten sugar then they're more likely to say the child is acting out. So that research is correct, but research involving CP is a myth? Makes sense

All I know is that I was spanked when I was little and it worked for me.

Now I enjoy giving out the spankings (don’t have kids btw)

I agree here too. I don't spank my kids but I would not hesitate if I felt they needed one. Some children absolutely need whoopings and like you said, the fear of a sore *** is a great motivator.

The parents would have to deal with it. They can't send their kid to school until behavior is corrected but they will be charged with truency and child neglect if their kids aren't in school. Institute steep fines for both. Get into a parent's bank account and I'll bet they fix little Johnny or Suzy's behavior quick fast and in a hurry.

I was spanked by teachers in school. It definitely affects behavior. Many think it's cruel to inflict physical pain on a kid. For me, while it did sting a little, it was more about the embarrassment that came with it.
