'19 FL QB Brian Maurer (Tennessee signee)

Chief is entitled to his opinion as well as the sunshine pumpers. Fact is you have to win games before the "Elite" 4/5 stars are going to commit to the Vols. Hopefully this guy is a diamond in the rough and real football coaches can develop him. Not a Litaker imo

"Tennessee runs a true pro-style offense," Maurer said. "Tennessee has some best facilties in the country and the coaches made a big impression on me." Maurer has been hot on the recruiting trail the last few weeks with recent offers form the Vols and Ohio State. After visiting Tennessee, he made his way north to Columbus where he put on a show with his arm and then ran the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds. He's a dual threat quarterback with that type of speed, but he would rather be known as a quarterback that can run instead of a running quarterback.

"I don't necessarily want to run, but if I need to run I will," Maurer said. "It's a dimension to my game, but I like to be in the pocket making big throws. That's where I feel like I can make an impact. I add a lot with the other guys committed and we can build on that."

Maurer returned home on Monday night and spent most of Tuesday mulling over a decision. He talked and talked about it with his coaches and family. And when he looked at the tale of the tape, it came up orange. "I sat down and had about a two hour discussion with my coach and Tennessee came out on top," Maurer said. "The fans help sell it and you know you are going to get a sold out venue each game. They are going to compete for championships under coach Pruitt."

"I'd be scared to play myself," Maurer said. "I've had other coaches come up to me before games and tell me their game plan is to get to me as fast as they can. They don't know if I'm going to run or throw."

Maurer learned after sitting down with Pruitt during his visit last week that Pruitt admired his toughness. That included his ability to stand in the pocket and deliver the tough passes under pressure. And in the rare occasion that he made a mistake, step up and make a tackle following an interception. "I'm from Florida and that's all I have to say," Maurer said. "Florida football is built different than any other state. Kids are just build different because we are built to be tough and not run away from contact."

And now Maurer will run straight for the other top prospects in this class. He wants to find the players that want to join him on Rocky Top. "I'm not going to target anyone in particular," Maurer said. "I'm going to recruit the guys that want to be a part of something special at Tennessee."

This one doesn’t excite me, but there’s no reason to think that he couldn’t emerge as one of the best quarterbacks in the nation. Good QBs fly under the recruiting radar every year. Carson Wentz, Nick Fitzgerald, Dak Prescott, Mason Rudolf... the list goes on and on. Here’s to hoping we’re getting a future 1st rounder.

"I'm top of their board... "They're going to pursue me hot until I commit or go elsewhere."

Well, he certainly doesn't lack confidence.

That seems to have worked out.

And I’m not sure where this noodle-arm talk came from. He makes all kinds of throws. Maybe it’s because he takes the shorter, safer throws that don’t make awesome highlights but do make head coaches happy.

And his HUDL is full of him runnImg around evading tackles and throwing in funky ways. On dimes. I didn’t notice it before they pointed it out, but he throws some of those Manning-esque ducks that land perfectly in recievers hands.

I was really warming up to the idea of CB being our guy this weekend. I’m thinkImg I’ll warm up to this kid now.

Elite 11 QB with a great camp performance, all the throws in his arsenal, and a 4.5 40. Sold, regardless of the resident trolling.

Agree 100%

QB more than anything is about coaching, fit, and development.

I tried to find it real quick for this post but couldn't... but there was a graphic floating around that showed where all the first round QB's in this past NFL draft were ranked in their respective class.... some were pretty freakin low. Meanwhile there were a lot of highly ranked guys that you (or at least I) had never heard of.

I'm in full fledged Homer McFanboy mode and giving this coaching staff all the trust in the world. Whatever they like/want, I'm good with. Can't wait to see what they can do with it.

Nice post Brad. I'd rather be realistic than a sunshine pumper

Yippee! This guy can dunk a basketball man, are you kidding me? Y'all see the kids highlight tape? Sam Darnold 2.0 baby!! Come on. QB recruiting doesn't seem to be going well. Especially when we start reaching for projects like this.

Your boy Urban thought he was good enough to offer, but you keep looking for everything you can find to be critical. That's fine. People are going to call you out when you're wrong and you can ask them to prove it and I will.

If Urb really did put forth a committable offer, that only speaks well of this player. His overall offer list isn't impressive however. Feel the same here as I did with Beasley, hope the player ends up doing well for Tennessee, but until he actually does, I'll be hesitant. Feel free to show proof of where I've even remotely critical of this staff outside of me not high fiving everybody over a low rated commitment.

He is not a realist..he is an ADMITTED TROLL. I don't know why he is still allowed here after admitting that, but he is sooo...a lot of us get guff for positions we take against the grain..but he is a flat out garbage troll.
Idk if he's trolling, but it appears he has no expertise and little common sense in assessing player talent. He simply looks at star rankings and offers.

Pruitt and his staff's evaluations are 10 times more important than those of recruiting sites. From what I've seen reported about Mauer, he looks like an excellent QB prospect. Great pickup, imo.
