You have a point with McElroy. But Mccaron was a top QB in college, so is Tua. Even Hurts was in the running for the Heisman at a point in time. Coker, Mccaron, Tua and Hurts were all high level recruits coming out of high school.

I don’t understand the watch his tape he isn’t good sentiment. The only negative thing I see is his throwing motion which obviously the coaches feel can be or does not need to be corrected. He also has a tendency to throw off his back foot.

What I see is a guy dropping dimes in 7A Florida football with a terrible O line. He clearly is not afraid to step up in the pocket and has mobility when his hand is forced. It’s also visible he throws accurate and makes solid decisions on the move.

I see WAY more positives in his tape than negatives. JMO. Glad to have him on board.

This kid is an elite 11 QB...high 3* on two sites and a 4* on another...he lit it up at our camp...no reason to believe he won’t continue to rise in the rankings...

Since when do these attributes constitute a “project”?

I just said McElroy was the exception. Sounds like you think Saban makes a living off of guys Iike this, and that's wrong. Most of the QB's that he's won titles with were top recruits.

What I'm saying is that in Saban's system, having highly rated QBs is not crucial to his success.

Probably won't end up being a 4 star on 247 or Rivals. Once again, with every 3 star that commits to Tennessee, will almost assuredly get that 4th star according to those here on volnation.

Greg Biggins article has him at #10 on all QBs, and he will have a chance to improve hist status even more at the upcoming Opening Finals.

"Biggins ranked Maurer 10th among his top performers at the event, while 247Sports national scouting director Barton Simmons said Maurer was a "revelation" at the camp and has "the arm talent to emerge as one of the elite quarterbacks in this class."

Maurer's consistency over the three-day event especially impressed Biggins. "He didn't have a bad day," Biggins explained. "He was really consistent on that first Friday workout. ... Then Saturday was the pro day. Twenty throws, the whole route tree, accurate every single — whether it be the short stuff, the intermediate, the deep. He was exceptional through the 7-on-7.

"The best day was that Sunday, which was the 7-on-7 workout. That was kind of like separation Sunday where you've got to make a good last impression for those guys when they pick the 12, and he was on fire. You could probably say he was a top-three, top-four guy on that 7-on-7 workout, getting accurate, throwing on time, his arm was alive."

A dominant defense and running game are what his teams are built around. Yes, Pruitt will have this thing built the same way, but a good QB is pretty important. My larger point, I'm not getting excited about about the number 71 player in the state of Florida committing to Tennessee. Don't care if he can dunk a basketball, his coach says he's great, highlight tape is nice, etc. This commitment is questionable.
