'19 FL QB Brian Maurer (Tennessee signee)

Just watch the damn film. He’s not very good. Looks like a poor mans version of Peterman with a throwing motion similar to Tebow

Naw he isn't elite but potential is there just has some bad mechanics that can be worked out. Development type kid. Kind of odd to use tebow a great college QB and peterman who showed he was better with good coaching. Although to me he looks more like a Luke Falk and that Memphis QB Fuentes had. Looks similar to those guys to me.

Why would my opinion of his 5 minute hudl film really matter anyway? Urban Meyer, Jimbo Fisher, Tyson Helton and Jeremy Pruitt know quite a bit more about evaluating QB's than I do. And this kid just worked out in front of them and they thought enough to offer him a scholarship. That tells me that the kid is a pretty good QB recruit.

I get it, he's not Trevor Lawrence. But we need a QB or two and our coaches think this kid can play. That's good enough for me.

So here is my understanding of what went down according to a conversation straight from the top.

UT offered Maurer. Maurer basically gave a silent, but then went and threw for Ohio St. Ohio St offers. Maurer becomes a strong Ohio St lean.

CB shows up and blows the doors off the place which I knew he would. He was told before leaving that they would review the film from the day, which they did.

Then Ohio ST flips the MSU commmit, and Maurer and his pops called asking to commit.

Then we get a call from the big guy saying “ we are torn Bc we believe that CB is special and could quite possibly be the best QB on the board period.” Said they were torn Bc they had built a strong relationship with Mauer and his dad but felt like CB was likely better. Give us 1 day. Also made clear taking 2 QBs and we’re going to pursue Tualia until they flip him or feel like they can’t.

In the meantime with continue to recruit CB but were moving forward with Maurer and push for Tualia.

We are disappointed obviously Bc CB wanted to be at UT. But at the end of the day we believe that they just don’t know CB very well and had not built a strong enough relationship yet.

Having said that we have the utmost respect for what Coach P is building, and still hopeful to be part of this class.

Tebow was known for running, Peterman is an awful freaking qb lmao

Tebow won a Heisman and Peterman was awful here but actually got some coaching in Pittsburgh and looked like a more than capable QB there, one who would've been much, much better than what the Vols had last season.

Very poor comparison if you're trying to bash the kid.

Your acting like this has to be our savior. That's not what this is. This is getting a guy you think you can work with while also keeping you open to pursuing Taulia who has been this staffs top guy the whole time.

The big time potential is in JG and Shrout on current roster. You need depth and who knows kids actually get better when coaches mechanics and not Butch jones Read Option. Then you go hard for Taulia through NSD and go for one of the 2020 elite guys.

This thread contains multiple examples of what I stated in your God Son's thread CoachJason. Hudl film evaluators that want the best for UT and judge a kid by a 5 minute video without ever seeing him throw or really knowing much about evaluating players. They love UT though.

That's great to hear, well kinda.... It's great to hear olthat Coach P is being as honest and upfront as he can be and he's in a sense being loyal/true to his word. Now on the flip side it's stinks for y'all but much respect for you n your God son family for the understanding and still wanting to be at UT. I hope it works out that CP is part of the class, sounds like a great kid n family with a level head and mature beyond his age. Welcome to the board and thanks for that insight.

Imo CB has a better arm than Maurer but I don’t know anything

You have an awesome perspective/understanding of the whole recruiting process. Hopefully he gets to UT. Even more so now because of the positive perspective you have portrayed.
