Yeah, coming off an ACL surgery where he still wasn’t near 100%, his backup took over the starting position and ran away with it. How does that condemn him?

Anyways, as I said Chryst has been brought in due to how smart he plays, not because he is going to throw the opponent out of the stadium. The coaches watched last years tape on JG and are not completely sure he can offer them that. They will figure that out during Fall practice.
The guy that “ran away with it” put up similar stats to JG if JG had played in 11 games. And maybe he still hasn’t recovered from that knee injury.

It’s not like we landed Joe burrow from OSU. He lost the competition to a legit QB in Haskins. If chryst was legit he could have stayed at Stanford and competed. Walk ons were having to play start this spring for them because all the other guys were hurt. I do not buy that he’s a good player at all. We will find out this fall

I mean JG lost out to Dormady who is now a backup QB at Houston

Read my post again.

I didn’t say he is a game breaker or even “good” by most people’s QB standard. He is a game manager that makes smart decisions and can hit the deep ball when needed. His numbers and film at Stanford both back this statement. Coaches know that Chryst can supply this for them, JG has not shown the ability to do that.

Butch also played jumper over bituli, thought Alvin kamara was a back up, refused to play Dobbs until he absolutely had to, etc. that’s a terrible point to try to make. We are all painfully aware of the fact that butch chose seniority over talent time and time again

The best most comforting thing about our hire in this QB discussion is we have a style that doesn't require an elite heisman trophy type player running the offense. It was my biggest worry from the beginning with the spread offense and it seems even more clear today that running the spread requires a special player at QB and finally we don't have that pressure.

You should be Guarantano’s personal excuse maker

It’s always someone else’s fault (unless it’s McBride, he just sucks because you say so)

If JG transfers and all we have is three unproven QB's, are we not risking missing a bowl game anyway?

I just think if he can’t beat out a one year rental then idc if he is here going forward. So I’ll take my chances with shrout or a freshman.

I think JG gives us a chance to win more games this year than anyone else on the roster. So I think he will win the job in the fall.

If that’s the case then that’s the best case scenario. My whole point was if he can’t beat out chryst this year (when we all agree he’s not a Russel Wilson type grad transfer) then i don’t see him ever being the guy here.

Tifwiw but i have a friend who does video prep for Cal (was a manager here when Wilcox was the DC) and he told me that chryst looked like a total different player before his acl injury and then after. He said the year after they didn’t even bother spying chryst at all like they did the year before.

I know one thing the dude is impressive as hell size wise. Like white cam newton big.
Interesting considering Chryst was benched 3 weeks before Cal played Stanford last year

The work outs this summer and the fall camp is the most important in JG's life...
Pruitt wants to win NOW...Pruitt intends to show improvement NOW..
From what I have seen of JG up until now he has been unable to lead his receivers with accuracy and he is not a threat to run.
Pruitt only owes JG a chance just like Chryst...
If JG hasn't improved in pass accuracy since last season then I don't think Pruitt will have any problem playing Chryst if Chryst is as advertised...
So as far as JG career at Tennessee is concerned I think his off season training will be the most important of his career

Accuracy was not his problem. He was far more accurate than chryst and was throwing downfield more than chryst.

He has accomplished way more than JG and the pac12 is a very good conference. Outside of AL and GA last year not sure you can make a great case for the schedule JG played being better. I’d say weaker. His numbers against those 2 were so bad not sure how it helps your case that he played them and did absolutely nothing.

Not really true. In 2016, other than UNC where he only played a quarter and a half, every team and defense he played against was terrible. His 2016 opponents had a combined record of 19-41. The team he was surrounded with vastly outclassed every one of his defensive opponents.

I’m 2017, when he faced some tougher opponents, he faltered. I’m sure his injury had something to do with it, but the fact that his stats, as unimpressive as they are, were mostly accumulated against such poor opponents while playing with a good RB/OL/TE situation doesn’t give me much hope that he’ll be able to elevate our offense too much.

For sure nobody owes anyone anything. All I want is the best player that gives us the best chance to win, whoever Coach Pruitt says that is who I am behind. I have no doubt whoever is behind center will have earned it. GBO!!!!!

2016 he led a team to 10-3. 12th in the country. JG lead a team to 4-8..

I’m not a JG hater but to say he and Chryst have had similar careers is laughable

TBF, Chryst only played the last half of the season and didn’t face a single bowl team as a starter in 2016 until their bowl game (where he only played about a quarter).
