Those four weren’t healthy enough to do what this board had convinced itself was to be expected for the 2016 vols.

fyp

Only one of those guys was still standing by the 3rd quarter of the USCe game. Granted, it was totally reasonable to question whether Tuttle could contribute going into 2016. Hindsight being 20/20, he should have been redshirted that year to focus on recovery.

Looking back, many of us put too much stock into how well Stripling did "a pair and a spare" in 2014. He did a lot with very little that year.

You weren't alone in this. You mostly got flak for bringing it up 3 times a day.

Plenty of people were upset we didn't get Blackburn or Fulmer lol

Don't remember this being something that was argued over.

Props on that one.

What was the timing on this? Was this even contentious? Most were expecting Steele purely because so much had gone wrong up to that point.

This is still a hypothetical.

I predicted Pruitt the day of or day after the Schianamo. That was more of a guess just cause I thought we’d have to go the coordinator route.

I think you were actually in agreement with me on the DT thing. There wasn’t many who were. That’s for sure.

As to Curries contract as I recall at the time he was hired I was the only one talking about him having a contract that paid him more fired than if he worked it out. Nobody wanted to hear it cause at that point we were stuck with him.

When I was moaning about the Currie hire this board had already started to circle the wagons around the hire.

My point in saying all that was to say that IDGAS if I’m on an island which is what another posted had said. I give my opinion on here. Sometimes I’m wrong and sometimes I’m right. I think the 2009 season was an underachieving season and I think for whatever reason we have people who overinflate Lane Kiffin then, now and probably always will.

I thought I saw his right arm in a sling during one of the games. Probably misremembering though

The injury he had surgery on to end his 2017 season was from fall camp and on his non-throwing shoulder. He played with it up until right around the USCe game, then he opted for surgery.

Having a shoulder injury might explain some of why he never seemed comfortable in the pocket, even on the plays where he had a relatively clean one to work with.

JMO but dormady wasn’t good because he heard footsteps.

I blame CBJ for some of that because he would never put his foot on the gas when we played teams like Ohio ans North Texas and Dobbs had to play the whole game and QD never got enough snaps.

I can't remember exactly what my stance was on DT going into 2016. I think I was in agreement that it was concerning and depth was a huge issue, but I wasn't ready to write them off because I'd seen Stripling get production with a less than ideal DT lineup before.

As for that 2009 season, I'm surprised that people are pretty much only on the "he overachieved" or "he underachieved" train there. 6-7 wins for that roster with a new HC seems like it was about right to me. He definitely could have won a couple more games and had some great players sprinkled aorund the roster. But he got some production out of some guys who'd done little in their careers up to that point as well.

Year one is always a bit of a crap shoot for coaches, even if it's a good coach and they have a good roster to work with. Kirby Smart probably should have won 10 games in 2016. Those losses to GT and Vandy were rough. Saban shouldn't have lost to MSU or ULL his first year at Bama. Kiffen could have done more with what he had, but first year coaches don't usually maximize their team's potential anyway.

I fully expect dormady and hurd to light it up and further show how poor of a coach we had

It wouldn't surprise me to see him do well at WR. Not sure he has an NFL future there or anything, but he always had decent hands and will probably give a lot of those Big 12 DBs hell after the catch.

He was always a douchebag with a bit of a s****y attitude, but I think the former staff did a really bad job of managing him. I think time has shown that he's not been surrounded by people in his personal life that do a very good job of managing him either. I kind of go back and forth between thinking a better coaching staff could have kept him in check and thinking that he was always gonna be a guy who needed to have a humbling experience and transfer further away from home eventually anyway.

Time will probably tell.

Edit: Not as sure with Dormady. I could see him being solid if Houston has a great OL and he can feel secure with them. If Houston isn't very good up front, I don't expect too much. Maybe it was the shoulder injury, but in 2017 he always seemed like he was afraid to get touched and it impacted him throwing the ball.

Was there. It is my greatest single Vol related memory.

Yes!

1. Got tickets from Tim's brother in law . A gator student.

2. Had to sit in visitor section with all the gator fans.

3. Tim kept leaning over into my personal space because the fat female gator fan sitting next to him kept farting.

4. We spent the whole game two rows up from Mr. Spirit Fingers doing his "Two Bits" cheer.

5. Stadium was quiet Mr Spirit Fingers thinks the game is in hand and loudly states " Do you wanna stay here and yell at the Tennessee fans or go into town?"

6. We get the ball back.

7. Willhoit. Tim looks at me and says "He's got this".

8. Pandemonium!

9. Gator section empties. I notice a dejected Mr Spirit Fingers. I look at Tim and ask " Do you wanna stay here and yell at the Gator fans or go into town?" Mr Spirit Fingers drops his head and leaves with tail between his legs.

I was deployed to Afghanistan during this season and was only able to catch a halftime score before we went out for the day. It was about 14 hours later that I found out. I was at Bagram, so I had some limited internet and was able to see the highlights. I woke a lot of the Iowa boys up who were with us when I heard the score. I did not see the game until I came home on leave in December. I have very fond memories about this game because of the joy it brought me in a dark place.

I was lucky to be overseas during the 1988 season. Glad it brought you joy!

Jr asked Wilhoit while he was training him “what was going through your mind as we were getting into range?”

His response “I told Fulmer that I was going to win this game. Doesn’t matter how far it is I’m making it.”

Said Fulmer looked at him and knew.

Said no way he was going out like that against Florida.

Now that the conversation about correct predictions and hot takes is winding down, can we expect anyone to own up to predictions/statements/hot takes made that were less than genius?

Go...

Go against the coach before the masses and you will get roasted.

This, so very much.

Not going to back off any more. Not going to try to rationalize myself into believing a flawed coach/staff/system can grow their/its way into being successful.

Don't think I will have to with who we have now. But have to see it on the field.

Fat female farting gator fan.
Love the visual.
Also, redundant.

2004 Tennessee Vols vs Florida final field goal - YouTube

Me too! I was also at game vs them in 2016. I’m 2-2 against Florida. Maybe I need to go more often.

Was there, too! Was in the upper level of the student section next to the Florida fans. I still remember the roar that started from the far end when they could tell it was going in eventually engulf is when the whole stadium knew. Except for the Florida fans... they were prett quiet.
