Trump's forecast of 4% GDP growth close to coming true as Americans spend tax-bill proceeds

Surging consumer spending is driving GDP well above prior estimates, and it is now tracking near 4 percent for the second quarter.

That's almost double the pace of the first quarter.

Economists say the consumer is seeing the impact of the tax cuts and is spending, as a result of more disposable income.

The economy in the second quarter is tracking close to 4 percent growth — a level President Donald Trump raved about last December, just before the tax bill was approved. At the same time, he had also told reporters he was holding out for a doubling of growth to 6 percent.

For now, his 4 percent forecast is close to coming true on a quarterly basis, after strong retail sales data pushed up tracking GDP growth for the second quarter to about double the first quarter's level. The economy grew by 2.2 percent in the first quarter.

CNBC/Moody's Analytics Rapid GDP Update reported economists' estimates of tracking GDP show average growth at 3.8 percent, following Thursday's retail sales report. Their actual forecasts, which take into account economic reports yet to be released, is running at an average 3.6 percent.

This is Obama’s economy, c’mon man.

When the House doesn't flip this November, say goodbye to Pelosi as Minority Leader.

House Dem torches Pelosi as 'aloof, frenetic and misguided' as he calls for her replacement | Fox News

A Democratic congressman from New York state torched Nancy Pelosi this week, calling her "aloof, frenetic and misguided," as he joined a growing group of rebel Democrats who say they won’t back the Californian for another term as the party's leader in the House.

U.S. Rep. Brian Higgins, from the Buffalo area, told the Buffalo News that Pelosi has shown a lack of leadership and failed to produce an alternative to President Trump's agenda, such as pursuing a Medicare expansion or an investment in infrastructure.

"I will not support her," Higgins said in the interview. "She's listening, but this is my conclusion: She's aloof, frenetic and misguided.

"Aloof and frenetic" does sound like an apt description of her personality. The current reasoning behind her strength within the party seems to revolve completely around how secure she is in her seat. She is in a deep blue district and since 1988 has hardly been challenged at all. She typically garners between 76-80% of the vote in the primary and even more than that in the general. Security in your seat matters but it doesn't make one a leader. If Pelosi was replaced with someone younger and more charismatic who was also a reasonable moderate, that could breathe some new energy into the party. Republicans should not want this to happen. The mere invoking of her name at Republican campaign rallies sparks an immediate response to her as a name brand, liberal punching bag. Republicans would miss her more than Democrats.

Yeah, that's the problem. The big boys and girls at the DNC won't replace her with a "moderate." Hell, look at the DNC Chairman. Is this person a moderate in the least or has provided a vision for the Party moving forward other than "NO TRUMP!"?

Youth and charisma will only get them so far. Rational and reasonable people see there is no vision, no leadership and zero issues to campaign on in 2018. If all they have to stand on is "Anything But Trump" in 2018 and 2020, they will lose bigly.

Oh NO. Not THAT. We need her to stay on until at least 2020.

She will be in that position (if she wants it) until 2020 at least. She'll always get enough votes to continue since the DNC is too stupid to realize change is needed. She sits in a position of power and cannot even comprehend why people would want her to step aside.

The only way she comes out of that position is if she voluntarily gives it up. Not that I am upset. She gives the GOP voting machine ammo every time she gets in front of a camera.

It is comical that some people are actually giving him credit for the United States being named a co-host (along with Mexico and Canada) for the 2026 World Cup. Does he deserve credit for warm, sunny days in June as well?

Oh, come on.

It'll be the first time Trump agrees to foreigners coming across the southern border.

Democrats Want Obama Back Because ‘There’s F***ing No One Else’

“There’s f—ing no one else,” one frustrated Democratic strategist said, according to The Hill. “Bill Clinton is toxic, [former President] Carter is too old, and there’s no one else around for miles.”

What are the democrats to do? They have no message and no messenger.

Do you really want to trade Bob Corker for Phil Bredesen?

Before he spoke about rising health care costs, before he listened to the stories of gaps in the system and before he visited the wing dedicated to babies born dependent on opiates, Phil Bredesen spoke Wednesday about the “elephant in the room.”

Bredesen said it was wrong for the U.S. government to institute a policy that separated children from families at the U.S.-Mexican border and he said the policy was “effectively CHILD ABUSE.”

That's global warming.

In stark contrast to what soon to be 5 and 70 Phil Bredesen said about separating the illegal alien children from their parents, Marsha Blackburn said:

U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn pointed the finger Tuesday at “liberals” and “liberal judges,” blaming them for the family separations underway at the U.S.-Mexico border.

“As a mother,” the Tennessee Republican said in a statement released by her office, “my heart breaks for the families who are separated at the border, but we are in this position because liberals would not pay to enforce our immigration laws or build appropriate facilities for asylum-seekers.”

Blackburn, who's running for a U.S. Senate seat this year, implied that the separations could be avoided altogether with legislation to "secure our borders and keep people from coming across our border illegally and choosing to put their families in danger."
