It was bad. I was using 1.5-2.5 cans a day for over 15 years. Dentist freaked out on one of my routinely 6 months checkups and sent me to a oral surgeon. I quit cold turkey that day and never looked back. I was scared to death. Thankfully the biopsy came back negative. Best decision I ever made.

quitting dipping was one of the hardest things i've ever had to do. glad i did it. but it took a LOT of trial an error for me.

I need a appetite suppressant. If I could find a good one to help me get on track, I think I could do myself some good. My fat ass needs to loose 50 pounds. I have lost on Keto before, but I always gain it back plus some extra when I get off the diet. Anybody recommend something to help cut the cravings ?

The weird thing is that Keto is not really a fad..It is the way we were made to eat. The benefits of it are not just losing weight.

My problem is the same as everyone elses..I am addicted to glucose. Breaking that addiction is as hard as quitting meth and heroin.

I am just starting full keto again, I want to make this stick for good this time. I feel so much better in every way when I go no carb.

There's a reason when addicts are trying to come off their "drug," sugar is one of the things that they have major cravings for.

100%.

I did it for a few months over the winter and lost 20lbs pretty easily and felt great, better than ever. But like UEM, went back to sugar in the spring. Planning to start again soon and try to make it stick. The best part is you can eat all the eggs and bacon you want. Science is awesome.

I'm down 20 lbs in 3 months and I'm eating lean meats, eggs, fish, grains, vegetables, fruits, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. I just count calories and it's easy to stay under because everything I eat is mostly low calorie foods anyways. Some days I have trouble reaching the amount of calories I need which is only 1500. I like this plan way better than Keto because I have more options. Basically just staying away from processed foods and eating like I have a brain.

that's my problem. when it's time to choose the salad or the steak wrap, all the switches in my head that say "EAT THE DAMN SALAD!!!" mysteriously lose power and.........well, that steak wrap is really, really good.

see, i drink anywhere from 90-150 oz of water a day.

and i'm still freakin' hungry.

Wow really?

I used to never drink enough water and as soon as I started intentionally drinking enough water I stopped snacking all day.

Being hydrated has just made me feel so much better (except for the fact you gotta pee every 14 minutes)

Yep. I like vegetables way too much. Everyone is different, so I'm of the opinion of do what works for you. I tried Keto a couple years ago and it just wasn't sustainable for me. I lost 20 lbs, but constantly craved the foods I couldn't eat.

truth. really annoying. and snacking isn't my problem.

it's getting hungry enough, that when it's time go eat, i go get the easy fill up vs. the smart choice i should make while i'm not so hungry.

i know what my problem is...it's lifestyle and some self discipline. sadly i've gotten to the age where those two things can't be ignored anymore.:banghead2:

I'm on day 9 of what some would probably call a diet...for me it's a lifestyle change. It's big on eating the right foods, the right combinations of foods, 64-128oz of water, and portion control. For many, Americans in particular, it's tough to retrain your body and mind to understand that it's OK to be hungry between meals. I've lost an average of 2 pounds a day while my body is consuming stored fat for energy.

The first 2-3 days was tough, but since then I've adjusted pretty well. When it's time for lunch and supper, I'm hungry...which is how it should be.

And, like 5Finger said, when you are eating the right kinds of foods in the appropriate portions, it's tough most days to get up to 1000-1500 calories.

Sounds like me and you are on a similar plan. I eat a snack between my 3 meals to help curb the hunger, but I'm usually not that hungry because I eat healthy portions for my main meals. My snacks are usually oikos greek yogurt with oats mixed in which is about 140 calories or a serving of cottage cheese which is 80 calories. When you eat healthy whole foods you can eat a lot more without killing your calorie count. I'm currently taking in just under 1500 per day which I figured using a caloric deficit calculator. This allows me to lose 2 lbs per week without destroying my metabolism.

I just turned 65 and have lost about 20-25 pounds over the course of the last year or so. Actually lost it over a year and have been maintaining since.

I've seriously limited my bread intake, no longer drink milk except with morning cereal (milk in the evenings invited a visit to the cookie jar or the ice cream). Not as much red meat but that change was more coincidental or age-related...don't crave it as much. Very little fast food. Other than that, my diet remains similar to what it was before.

I do go to the gym 4 times a week, specifically a few minutes on the stairs and more time on the treadmill. Just a little more than 30 minutes during the week but I'll spend close to 45 minutes on Saturday.

My weaknesses include beer and alcohol on the weekends but I do avoid it during the week. I do snack on some candy but it's nothing like my cookie and ice cream visits/binges before I started this "regiment".

My parents are well into their 80s. Pretty sharp mentally but they didn't exercise like they should and now their mobility suffers. This was one of the main goals of mine...I didn't want to see my quality of life suffer as I age due to a lack of exercise. As I said, my parents are up in their 80s and my grandmother lived to 102. My plan is to stick around a while so I felt exercise is going to make my 80s more enjoyable than what my folks are experiencing.

Summer is great for eating whole foods and avoiding sugar. I've been grilling almost every evening when it's not raining. Wife and kids love it too. Burgers, dogs, steaks, chicken, veggies, etc. Eat like a caveman. Drink a few Michelob Ultra at 2.6 carbs and life is good...

I’ve been been told that Keto isn’t healthy long term

I'm sure you have. I know when I do it, my blood sugar levels out, I lose weight, my cholesterol gets better, I have more energy and my joints feel better...I basically feel like a different person after about a week, and feel like crap almost immediately on going off it and then just get worse. I think I will just listen to my body now, I let some idiots scare me off it a little a while back, but since researching it a lot more I am convinced it is the way we were made to function.

I will say that anything done in extremes is harmful.

I meal prep during the summer perfectly. just threw on chicken breasts with dry rub last night for the next three nights.

I'm not just talking weight loss though. I have no issue with that as is.

Fair enough. That’s most people’s angle.

It’s super anti inflammatory, satiating and healthy as long as you are getting your micronutrients right, avoiding processed red meat and getting as much veggies as possible within your carb allotment
