Six Wins Required to get to a Bowl?

I would like to think that Tennessee has enough pride to turn a bowl game if we get less than 6 wins in a season. Other schools can do what they like.
Those that get upset about "participation bowls" are just complaining to complain. No need to watch them or even think about them if you don't want to. I watch some lower bowls and while most are crap, some are better games to watch than some of the major bowl games.

Sure it did, that wasn’t the only time we taught him this lesson or others, at least that was a start. He had a lot of glory in football in his school years and earned them. He also had chores and learned to follow through on things he started. He also had the loudest mother at all his sporting events, cheering him on in everything he did.

Exactly.

Parents don't turn off and on their values like a light switch based on the kid's age. They teach those values through the entire childhood, toddler to high school graduation (and beyond).

Good on ya, ORB. PJ's just recovering from a hard day, it seems.

Well that was just a rude way to respond.

Have a frustrating day at work, PJ?

Nope just find the over the top bragging about toddler life lessons to be ridiculous. Especially when it has zero effect on their lives. Most of these kids come from very little and bowl trips are a really big deal. They also know a bit about winning and losing on a level above Jr pro bball. If they're good then that should end the discussion

Oh, I get that you have a different point of view about bowls. That's fine as frog hair, just fine.

But you insulted ORB by saying that she was "bragging" about "teaching her 5-year-old how to be an adult."

In other words, you turned a respectful debate into a personal attack. Wouldn't you like to apologize for that? I mean...you are a moderator and all.

I'm fine with how it is now. I love foot ball and will watch it no matter what. Cool thing about it is even if two 5-7 or 6-6 teams go at it usually it is still competitive and interesting to watch because they are even. It also benefits teams by giving them extra practice and an extra game which if you are a 5 or 6 win team probably need anyway for reps.

Apologize for teaching life lessons? No way

Ah, I see. The life lesson that says you should be a douche to others. Got it. Carry on, then.

p.s. But isn't it difficult to moderate when you were the first one to jump down into the mud?

One thing about it, we all have them. Just have to look out for them when they do.,,unless we don’t like. Lol. Naw, we take care of our own here.

If you have an issue with me being able to post my opinion then take it up with freak. I've broken no board rules but feel free to White Knight all you want.

Nah, I think the best person to judge your actions and their merits is you yourself.

Maybe once you're over the current mood, you'll feel a little bad about making it personal, and send an apology to ORB. Here's hoping.

It beats the marketing impact of crickets for 9 months out of your football program.

Does it?

Miss. St. played in the St. Pete Bowl 2 seasons ago (at 5-7) and the only reason I know is because I went. I "think" they played Miami of OH but it could've been someone else. I went to the game is the reason I'm bringing it up.

No one give 2 sh(T$ after those scrub bowl games are played and I doubt any P5 with an ounce of self-worth would brag about it.

The game would be in every record book and media guide (and a win would put a trophy in the case). The kids would get their swag and a free trip to a warm place in the winter. Fans would get to watch their team play another game. There are no losers in this scenario

The bar keeps getting lowered, doesn't it.

If UT's playing I'm watching. But I'm not running around bragging to all my friends about winning the St. Pete Bowl.

Who is lowering this mythical bar? It's just a football game. A game that should be enjoyable enough for the players to want to compete and fans to cheer. Nothing more

Again, it's a game and it's supposed to be fun for all involved

Sorry if you are having a bad, truly am, but I grew up part of my life In a group
Home, so yes there are children that appreciate every bit of kindness and help that is given to them. That being said, I wanted my son to learn to not wait around for someone to give him something but to work hard and be proud of what he earned. It doesn’t matter to me what some poster questions my parenting and I never had to resort to spanking to do it. Sorry, JP, lost my cool a little.

How is that lowering the bar? It's the way college football has been operating in the postseason for decades. It's a win win for the school, the kids, a local charity etc. I don't get why this bothers people.

No worries, you're good.

Even with all that steam being blown off, you still didn't drop to the level of making a personal attack. Good on ya.

These players have worked their entire lives to get to this level of football. They also very likely grew up in similar circumstances to yours. Why do you think you should have a say in whether they get one more game or not? Get a trip to a place they've likely never been? Get an armload of gifts they likely couldn't buy themselves? Let them enjoy what they have earned because for most it's a very small window.

You were referring to that trophy for all to see.

Players on a 5-7 team being excited to play is going to be tough...unless the coaches let the players call the game or something unorthodox....which isn't going to happen.

Sure, I would watch because it was my team but that's about the only reason.

I much prefer kicking the B1G 10's ass or another P5 conference.

Boca, you're right.

Objectively, the bar keeps being lowered.

Once upon a time, there was one bowl game. It wasn't even a regular thing, just a promotional. Then the Rose Bowl became annual. Then a couple others joined in. Before a generation passed, we were up to 8-12; it seemed to vary every year.

But one thing was true in all that growth: only good teams got invited. To any of them. Every team was a competitor in its own conference, if not an outright conference champ. Being invited to a bowl and being among the Top 25 were rough equivalents.

Then it expanded again. And again. It stopped being about bringing champions together, and became more about bringing all winners together. Winners meaning, you won more games than you lost.

Finally, we crossed the double barrier: the one into non-winning seasons (6-6), and finally the one into losing seasons (5-7).

So sure. It's just an objective fact. The bar continues to be lowered.

Whether you LIKE the existence of 39-40 bowl games a year, or NOT, that's an objective fact. The bar keeps getting lower.
