UT moving up in recruiting rankings

The next 8 could put us in the company of Bama and Georgia or we may miss on all of them. A lot of top players have us in the top three or four teams we just have to be able to close on them plus hold the guys we have.
I think Pruitt will go for a smaller class than Butch to get quality over quantity. He will only sign huge numbers if he gets top players. I think any three star guys he takes will be guys that he and the staff have personally evaluated.
Long way to go it could end up great, fair, or poor only time will tell.

the recruiting rankings are what they are, and i don't think they should have any real value. at least not so much to say "recruiting was #7, so we should be a top 10 team".

it doesn't work that way, and i hate it when i see that. it's just so arbitrary.

and there's nothing arbitrary about how/why this staff offers a kid, regardless of his 'rank'.

I didn't say any of that. Go pick on KB some more.

i was just going off your point about the rankings. wasn't implicating you.

and i wasn't picking on KB. he's a big boy.....:)

well, last year we were around 60, and in 2 months he got us to 20.

we're at 20 in May this year, and 7 months to dec, and 9 to Feb.

i'd lean toward 'we good' as well.

Yea, its gonna be interesting and I think some forget, its very possible it could be big fun!

If recruiting rankings were an exact science we would be beating the crap out of W. Va come game one of the season. Their last three classes were all ranked around 30 in the nation. Developing and keeping players plays a huge part in the overall final picture.
That would also be true of games we lost last year namely, Vandy, Kentucky, and Missouri. If ranking determined games they all lose to us badly last season.

Bad recruiting was way down the list of issues for CBJ. Say what you want about his recruiting but he got plenty of guys that other SEC programs wanted. He was just bad at most every other part of being a head coach.

it is when you get funky with the # of signatures you can take, which is what we did under CBJ. it was a shotgun approach.

it's just a function of how the rankings are made, by total points, so in those years you'd sign 25+ kids, it'd be hard not to see a ranking bump. the highest ranked class CBJ brought in here was, i think if ircc, that class he signed 32...the one after that was 30 kids. 62 kids in two classes, both top 7 nationally.

lots of points. and drama, and attrition. neither class broke a 90 average, and while both classes showed high rankings, if you re rank them both by the average, they're both outside the top 10.

quantity over quality. not say that they were all bad players obviously, but you get the idea.

Bingo. And the myth of a good recruiter was born.

I remember the days of late May/ early June 2013 when UT was ranked #1 in recruiting rankings and VN members boycotting Athens, TN because the Chamber of Commerce invited Nick Saban to be their keynote speaker...Good times.

Interesting you call out the East for recruiting well, when we have 3 teams in the current top 20 while the West has 6.

#'s committed and average score. Only behind UGA in the East. And bama and UGA (for all intents and purposes) in conf.

Crootin going good so far.

Mizzou and Vandy didn’t make the top 50. Going to really be a “let’s see what Coach Pruitt has got” for next couple years. I’m confident he will turn us into a program that competes for championships.

If we lose to Vandy for a 3rd straight year while allowing over 40 points again... I will do a belly buster off the Henley Street Bridge. Their recruiting under Mason has been atrocious even by the already horrible standards of Vandy football. They are not more talented than us.

I my self I'm not a 🌟 gazer. I want to see the product they put on the field. Jones and company had all the talent in the world and couldn't do anything with it..

Recruiting and development go hand in hand, and a team can’t achieve the highest level of success without both. You can elevate the play of a 2* with good coaching, but the same can be said for the 5*. The latter is preferable certainly if championships are the goal.

I like where we are currently given where we finished last year. We obviously hope for a better close in 2019.

The East is recruiting well, hopefully the days of the West dominating are over.

2019 Football Team Rankings

The SEC West has 6 teams currently above Tennessee, including #1 & 3 overall.

The SEC East has 2 teams currently above Tennessee, including #6 Georgia with 3 five stars and temporarily SCAR due to 12 commits.
