UT moving up in recruiting rankings

yep. and that's by design. they're being pretty deliberate in their approach. and they understand that there's some of the top tier guys that are going to wait and see what we look like on the field before pulling the trigger.

and they're fine with that. bottom line, i don't know of any prospect that they've legitimately gone after that has told them to knock it off.

we have legitimate shots at some really good players this cycle, and yeoman's work is already being done on the 20 kids. this staff believes in relationships, and from what i can tell, the kids seem to respond to it. some, so much so they've committed. others, at least to the point they continue to listen and build the relationship.

This staff knows some areas that help has to come now.
There are players in others areas that they may feel can do the job with real preparation (coaching, conditioning, ect.). This could be why they are reacting slowly. Just need more time to understand where the "wheel is squealing the loudest".

If we lose to Vandy for a 3rd straight year while allowing over 40 points again... I will do a belly buster off the Henley Street Bridge. Their recruiting under Mason has been atrocious even by the already horrible standards of Vandy football. They are not more talented than us.

Right...... They just beat us. That's the part that really counts.

Hated saying this, but that's the way it's been.

i think that's evident in what we've already seen in the work being done on the DL and OL.

they added a RB last cycle, but need a couple in this class.

they've cast a very wide net for CB's. and they're going after "athletes" that fit the types of players they want, but maybe can transition to another position. RB, LB, Safety....depending on the frame, you have potential to move freely between all 3 of those positions. Aaron Beasley is a kid that fits that mold. great size, great frame, probably has the ability to add good weight and either transition to RB or LB, but currently listed as a Safety. and honestly, i don't think the staff knows for sure where he projects best. but he's 6'3", 215 lbs and looks like an SEC ready player....:eek:lol: get him here, and they'll find the place he fits best.

i'm excited about the future. this won't be a Big East/MAC team looking to be the David against a schedule of Goliath's.

ah. for whatever reason, i saw "can't", not "can".:loco:

His "but" threw you off. :)

You saw "..., but..." and were conditioned to look for an opposite in the second half of the sentence. "Can" was in the first half ... so "can't" should be in the second half. Your brain was set up for the fall, heh.

He could've used "and" instead. Would've been less compelling as a statement, though. "But" creates conflict, adds tension, makes a sentence seem more interesting. That's why he used it, even if it was only a semi-conscious decision.

tl;dr: his but got in your way.

look at the average. the reason there's that many teams ahead is just total points; they have more commitments than we do right now.

on average, we're 4th in the SEC (10th nationally)...UGA, BAma, Aub, TN. and the gap between us and Aub is miniscule.

not sure how that holds up by Dec/Feb, but it is an indicator that the overall talent level is on the rise.

not like when Butch would sign 25+ and wind up in the top 7. quantity over quality, with high attrition to follow.

this will be quality over quantity.

Exactly, but one has to look at the quality AND quality to get a complete picture.

If we keep recruiting the same type of talent that we have been thus far with Pruitt's 2019 Class, we'll be in the hunt very soon according to the Blue Chip Ratio (basically sign more 5 and 4 stars than 3 stars and lower).

The 2019 Class currently has a Blue Chip Ratio of 63%, Butch's highest Blue Chip Ratio came with the 2015 Class (53%).

For comparison, here were the "elite teams" in 2017 according to the Blue Chip Ratio: The champ will be one of these 10 teams | The 2017 college football season preview

We have a ways to go with our current Team Blue Chip Ratio at 37%, but if 2019 continues as it has thus far and 2020 is even better, we will have a solid chance to crack that list. :hi:

yep. and that's also why i said the bit about

the good news is that we're in good shape with a lot of the kids at or near the top of our board. including the Rivals #1 and #2 prospects nationally.

It was mentioned above, but you need to focus on the average rating per player, not the total points yet as many schools are well into double digit commitments already. UT has one of the highest ratings per player.

Butch liked to develop 5 stars players into 2 stars!?!

.

This is exactly why, looking back, I am so impressed with what Josh Dobbs did. He never had a quarterback coach, a competent offensive line or good receiver play. He just lined up and balled out time and time again. I didn't give him enough credit when he was playing but I will always remember him as one of my favorites now.

Dobbs had Bajakian his first two seasons.

i think that probably should go w/out saying. but it has to start somewhere, and the thing that should have most of us feeling better about recruiting is just the type of guy the want.

this team is going to 'look' different going forward. bigger/longer.........if nothing else, when we got out on the field against Bama, UGA, UF, etc...we'll be able to go eye to eye with them.......:eek:lol:

and the kids we're going after, are in a lot of cases, the same ones our competitors are going after.

there's going to be an upgrade in talent.

development....well, we gotta wait on that.

Agree with development however butch didn't use kids strengths in game planning he continually tried take talent and fit square peg in a round hole that something I do not believe this staff will do
