Even Rudy Giuliani has done this. Take note that when being critical of the investigation, Giuliani will attack Rod Rosenstein but he never says a negative thing about Mueller's competence or character.

Michael Cohen sent a letter to Ford Motor Co. last year offering his "services" to them. Ford replied "No, thank you". Robert Mueller's team contacted Ford about this letter and they now have it in their possession. Cohen's sales pitch to Ford could be very telling about what Trump may have known about what Cohen was doing. Fwiw, Cohen still identifies himself as Trump's personal attorney and Trump, at least as of now, has not disavowed Cohen.

Guiliani is doing Trump's dirty work disavowing him. You know Cadet Bones Spurs isn't going to personally fire anyone. Bet he will drive the Trump bus right over him though.
