history where we killed and enslaved our own "people" long before and long after we went to Africa?

Education? The same education the rest of the nation has access to?

Employment? Lol.

Housing? what does this even mean?

everything you bring up is a rich/poor issue. not a white/black issue. every problem above is the same for poor white people.

By this logic race has never impacted blacks in this country. Always been a rich poor thing.

You are right that these are mostly rich/poor issues.

No **** dude. I say I'm going to Lowez and she says she needs to go and I cringe. Men don't shop, men buy. Women shop and then buy.

Duck Commander? Lost me on letting kids watch that garbage.

As for the males playing the boobs. It draws laughs. You can do anything to the white American male because nothing is offensive.

Dan Connor doesn't really play the boob on Roseanne. He goes out and makes the money, but it also reflects a certain amount of "if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy" portrayal of their relationship.

The 50s shows you mention keep the woman in the home. Many women find such a portrayal offensive.

Did you go to the University of Texas?

It is the truth. It is an advantage.

Sure it is, therefore we become the butt of all jokes portrayed on the boob tube and in racial tirades. Keep thinking it's funny and next thing you know you will be getting told what to do and when. Although in your case.......

Not that clear cut. Too many things in play.

I've seen hirings take place where the hiring managers will trip all over themselves to hire a non white male.

Non-white male
Female
Non-white female

Basically in that order but no where near that clearly defined.

In reality this is what we are dealing with. I know of no way to stop it other than begin selective sterilization and forced fostering of children. Pull the kids out of the hood and trailer parks and then put them in foster homes. Pay for their education and upbringing. Limit number of children welfare recipients are allowed to have and go from there. Now, having said that, it comes across as heartless, evil, anti-family, etc. But in truth this is what it will take to break the cycle. Throwing money at an issue and not making any life style changes is exactly what we have done for close to 60 years. It hasn't and isn't working. The leaders of color that were supposed to help break this cycle have their hands in the pie the same as the whites.

Believe it or not I had that thought while watching "Blind Side". The cycle of poverty and no hope for a future for Michael Oher was stopped cold in it's tracks. How do you repeat that cycle for everyone that needs it?

I have long since railed against network TV shows. Thankfully, my kids dont want to watch them, because we don't.

In EVERY single sitcom on network TV, and now cartoons even...beginning in my youth and now epidemic...portrays dad as a bumbling boob, dumb, incapable, cowers to the all powerful matriarch...mom...and is the butt of every joke, every snarky comment, and all disrespect...from mom AND the kids.

That's what is portrayed...check your memory banks from about the time of him the tool man Taylor, Roseanne and dan...through now. Every single dad is a fool...what happened to father knows best? Leave it to beaver? Even the Brady bunch? 3hat happened to treating the man of the house with respect???

It's gone. Long gone.

Not in my house. Never had to say a word or put my foot down though. We never started watching that crap so we never had to stop. We watch duck commander, science channel, discovery , etc...when we watch TV

Which is very little. Too many better things to do.

Good post Marcus.

Blue font?

There are plenty of sitcoms where the Dad isn't an idiot*, and it's just supposed to be funny. My theory is that it's not that they are trying to teach some lesson that women are better...women play the "straight man", because men are funnier. :)

*I don't really watch sitcoms anymore, so a lot of these will be dated: Cosby Show, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Growing Pains, Full House, Modern Family (Phil's an idiot, but the patriarch is not), Arrested Development, Who's the Boss, Family Matters, the aforementioned Roseanne, Family Ties, Step by Step, I didn't watch Coach, but I don't believe Craig T Nelson was some kind of idiot, etc.

I went to a private high school. supposedly giving me and my classmates a leg up, right? 95% went to college. I would say less than 50% actually graduated college, and we have people running the whole gambit of success to failure and most of it not tied to actual education

when I talk to public school grads, they have varying success rates as well. Whats the common unifier with those who had success? Those students who applied themselves did better than those who didn't, or don't apply themselves in the real world now.

the actual place of study, and quality of the teaching (beyond competent) doesn't matter much imo. I always like using the Mark Twain quote, I never let schooling get in the way of my education.

basically I would have had the same success at a public school as I did at private, and vice versa. certainly there are individuals who would be served better by one over the other; but to say that race is some defining line is ridiculous to me.

You must have been one of the kids that dropped out before learning about anecdotal evidence. :)

You are probably right that the biggest factor in education is effort, but if you don't think teachers and schools make a significant difference, I can't begin to agree with you on that (data?).

I follow the wife in stores because it takes too damn much time to find her when she was right beside me and then ... Men should have leashes for wives in stores, but we know where that would go.

That's why you just give her your credit card and let her go by herself.

Were you following me yesterday? We were in the garden section for a good 45 minutes finding the right plant that will receive the perfect amount of sunlight. She picked it out in the first 5 minutes we were there and walked around for another 40 minutes just to pick the one she originally liked.

We married wimmin outta the same gene pool 😂

beyond the level of competency I don't think it matters a whole lot.

yeah, if everyone had grade A teachers all the time it would be great. but even in the private education there were plenty of teachers who knew less than the students. I had a least 1 or 2 (of 8) that didn't every semester.

again my whole thing is if you took the inner city kids and plopped them down into the best private school with no other changes you wouldn't see a big difference in what they actually learn. Sure the process of teaching, their "education" might be better, but without the drive it won't make a difference. not because they can't, but the drive.

I can’t believe how many people here send their kids to Baylor, McCallie, GPS, etc. and the vast majority wind up going to UTC or UTK. $100k down the tubes for what?

The only store that I consider to be a couples activity is the grocery store because while she is getting the real food I am buying what I want. Anything else is definitely NOT a couples activity normally.
