Austin Pope looked great catching that one little dump off and he rumbled and almost got in the endzone. He looks like he's going to be the fullback to me.

My starting oline prediction:

Trey Smith/Jerome Carvin/Ryan Johnson/Chance Hall/Drew Richmond

Blakely has gotten like 90% of the reps at FB. He was banged up Sat.

Haven’t talked about it much, but do you all agree that JG looked much better? I’m not going to take a lot from the spring game because Dormady looked great last year also, but JG looked better than at any time last season, including the spring game. He threw the ball much better, threw the deep ball really really well, and on his one run, he looked much more explosive and much faster than last year. Perhaps his issue was injuries and that’s why he looked slower last year in games. He still made some mistakes, but he’s getting better imo, now that he actually has a QB coach

I like that Pruitt expects excellence and championships. The fans do have a role, but I also hope he looks in the mirror and understands that he has to do better recruiting.

I know its early, but recruiting is about selling a product and up to this point I'm not impressed with the early results. When we hired Pruitt, I expected better success on the recruiting trail. This is ultimately what will determine the future of the program, not attendance of a spring game.

Recruiting success will only come if TN starts winning games. That cannot be changed until the Fall.

I was impressed with the amount of different looks both the offense and defense gave. I mean we had 9 in the box (7 on the line and 2 LBs) multiple times. I formation wasn't purely run. It's a new glorious day for play calling. And that was them being vanilla

Yes. It will be nice to not be able to recognize the play that we are about to run based on the formation and down and distance.

Or the rb lining up next to the QB or one step back based on if it's a run or pass.

I think its obviously a huge factor, but plenty of coaches have recruited well by just selling a vision. Pruitt doesnt really generate alot of excitement, its not his personality. Kiffin and Butch both recruited very well before ever coaching their first game. Butch Jones was a terrible coach, but did a great selling the program until people realized he didn't know what he was doing on the field.

Rewatched coach Pruitt's halftime interview with spears and his fan comments...a couple of thoughts

1. He didn't say we as in reference to still being a Bama guy. He said "When I was playing we didn't beat Tennessee. I was part of the 9 year stretch during Tennessee's winning streak. Hopefully we can get back to that". I saw someone reference that he said we in reference to bama and was referring to all 9 years. He played there. Its ok to say we in reference to his team he was on and he said PART OF not all 9 years.

2. People are upset about the comments about the fans. He said the fans are great and its been analyzed and over analyzed but I think the message was mainly for his team. He was upset at his teams effort and to relate what he saw to fans he was simply saying some were here and some couln't be (injuries to players), but some should have been here and weren't (the players that weren't there mentally).

I think the guy just wants to win and I for one love the breath of fresh air of him vs what we listened to for the past 5 years. Just wait if we beat WV for that Florida game. The stands will be rocking. I'm excited to see all the newcomers in the summer and what they can add.

What I like the most is that Pruitt is not going to make excuses. He wants to win now and will do whatever it takes to do so. No more year 0 talk or Butch talking about 7 years to build a program. He wants to and will expect to win every game. I think the team mentality will follow suit with the head coach. We've went from an excuse maker/former band member to an alpha male. Some of us will have to get used to it as well. I love it. I'm excited. Lets hope the guys continue to work out and get bigger and lets see what we look like come fall.

Was thinking the other day.... I feel like they should tell us who to cheer for each drive of the spring game.

Would get crowd involved, and put pressure on either offense or defense.

As it is, it?s tough to know when to cheer and when not to - and ultimately ends up being a quiet atmosphere

J.J. McCarthy is a 2021 QB out of Chicago who already holds an Iowa State offer and has some strong, early buzz. Unsolicited he dropped me a note this morning following a visit to Knoxville, saying:

"I just came back from the spring game at Tennessee and a recruit visit. I was invited by Coach Weinke and Coach Helton. It was incredible. Coach Pruitt is definitely changing the culture in Tennessee."

Being a freshman obviously early here, but someone to keep in the back of your mind.

Kiffin's class was a bust.

Yes, hard to get too excited from the spring game but he did look more confident and threw the touch passes much better. Can tell he’s actually been coached.

The ball he threw to Palmer ,i think, down the sideline in between cover 3 was probably the best ball he’s thrown in his career here.

IDK why people are trying to rationalize or soften Pruitt's criticisms. He's not going to walk back his comments and he's not sorry he made them. He wanted the players to play better and he wanted fans to fill the stadium. He's going to continue to speak his mind and some people will like it and some won't. One way or the other, it will define his tenure here.

Saturday didn't change my expectations for the season. I think we'll see a different team this summer, and it'll be a better one.

No live contact helped him out a time or two as he still can take too long at times with the ball. He just needs to trust his reads and let it rip. He was much better at it now than last yr though. It was every play almost before but now it's just here and there. So I expect with the better coaching that he will keep improving on that. Last coaches coached him to not take risks and this one seems to want him to let it rip at times and give a guy the Chance. He looked much faster on that run like you said.

He is improved as is the coaching. Its all mental for him.
