Pruitt not happy with Spring Game attendance

I haven't read the whole thread, so forgive me if someone has already brought this up, but Pruitt coached under Saban, and Saban with his record has every right to blast their fans for not showing up, or for leaving early, as he once did. Pruitt, as a new HC, has not earned that right yet. When he has a strong record (being optimistic here) he can blast the fans all he wants. The attendance was cited as around 65,000, which seemed high to me, I think it was closer to 55,000, but that is still a good turnout (I think many left early).

And Knoxville is a town with more people than just UT fans. It is home to corporate headquarters of Pilot, JT Hackney, Magnavox, and more. That brings in outside people who aren't UT fans. Tuscaloosa has Dreamland BBQ.

Just because a town has some more doesn't mean the people there will support the school. UT is a state university, and most of west TN is all orange. Many of those people aren't traveling for the spring game. They do travel in the fall. It's just not apples to apples. If Nashville were 58 miles from Knoxville, my guess is you would see more. See Birmingham.

That's some nice mental gymnastics, I hope you stretched first.

There are 868,000 people that live in the knoxville metro area, meaning within an hours drive. If all we got was 65,000 then yes he has every right to say it. That turnout is pathetic, especially with how much orange you probably could see at the mall or other places rather than the spring game.

My bet is that UT Sports knows almost exactly what the actual number of available attendees (under 100yo, over two yo, have a car, etc.). I wonder if CJP knows.

Ok let's get technical, Tuscaloosa has a population of 99,000. Knoxville alone is 186,000 that's almost double, my point still stands that there are more people living near Neyland that weren't there. 75,000 in a town of 99,000 versus 65,000 in town of 186,000 which looks better?

Just for info, Knox county has about 450,000. Tuscaloosa county has a little over 200,000, but Birmingham is only an hour away, and the city has over 200,000, and the county it is in has over 650,000.

Correct. Plenty on here are gone turn every molehill into a mountain for their own reasons....from Fulmer hating to “Pruitt is a Bammer”. Buckle up, they ain’t going away anytime soon.

That's too bad, a lose-lose situation. :p

If CJP is successful, they look like whining beyatches. If he isn't, then they shift their miserableness back to UT football.

Either way, they deserve the physical reality they create.

If we are spreading due to proximity the knoxville-sevierville-la Follette combined statistical area ( census designated population) has a population of 1.09 million so there still should be a comparable crowd, even more so when you consider that both have higher fall game attendance. The point is that there are more than enough people that live close that the stadium could have been more packed or even full.

My god, I was talking about the size of the town that each school is in, I wasn't talking about the proximity of the nearest major city you Moran. Its very easy for anyone with a brain to understand that Knoxville is a larger city than Tuscaloosa, I'm not really sure why you are arguing this with me.

Moron really isn’t a grammatical challenge Skippy.

Doesn't seem like that much of a stretch, to consider Tuscaloosa an easy drive for a ball game from Birmingham. Heck, I used to commute every day to downtown Houston through ungodly traffic, at least an hour each way. And weren't you giving heck to ole 114 for not driving 175 miles? Consistency was once said to be the hobgoblin of something, don't rightly know how it applies here, but anyways I like the sound of the words and the feel of my fingers on the keyboard...

Go F'ck'n Vols! (credit another on VN for that)

I am supportive of Pruitt. Just didn't think he needed to make the comment. The attendance was on par with every other spring game we have had. It's not like fans didn't show up. Our fans will show up when the games matter.

It was an answer to a question.... just meant he wished we had filled the stadium..... I am sure that he put little thought into..... our fans constant whining about it shows we are champions of life and deserved butch!

We sucked last year. Other than having a new coach what is there to be excited about? Same players that went 4-8 are playing now

Get better and spring game attendance will improve next year.

It’s hilarious how angry his fan base is over nothing. These past few years have really done a helluva number on some of you.

No reason there weren’t more fans there. He should be pissed

Maybe if our athletic director had made television appearances requesting fans turn out for the game instead of asking they buy storm windows, the crowd may have been larger.:eek:lol:

All kidding aside, the athletic department DID do a pretty piss poor job of hyping/promoting the O&W game. Also, stripping away fan day HAD to have had some effect on it.

That's with every seat occupied. In the section you were in was every seat taken or was there room to spread out? You can put about 35K in the lower bowl and make it look full given how narrow the seats are.

Still, it looked like a great crowd on TV...regardless of the actual number.

When the game started, it was all pretty closely packed around me. I estimated 85% full earlier in the thread; think that's about right.

I'm not sure it was the same throughout the lower bowl, of course, can only speak for what I could see. But it looked about the same in most places, far as I could tell.

He has NO PAST. This is his first head coaching gig. It was a "rookie" mistake he made yesterday with that stupid comment.

We, as fans, don't have to earn anything. I've "earned" my ass off so I can go to a few games a year and support our student athletes.

LMAO. Rookie mistake? Hell, even Stoops had one NC and played in 3 other title games and still called out his fan base for Texas Tech. Rookie my ass. Like I said, he's the HMF in charge of football. Like his comment or not, it doesn't really matter.

It absolutely matters. Fan buy in is part of it. Equity is part of it.

Calling into question the loyalty of your fan base over spring game attendance is ridiculous. Especially considering he wouldn't have this job if it wasn't for UT fan passion. Greg Schiano would. Don't close practice, be inaccessible, and then show up 4 days before the spring game talking about how important attendance is for the spring game.

He's getting paid 4 ****ing million dollars a year to coach football. Shut the **** up and do your job. UT fans have been through hell and it's our buck that has paid Dooley and Butch to run this thing into the ground. At this point, he's a turnip head bammer getting paid way too much. Guy whiffed on 10 of the high level recruits in the late period. Again, shut the **** up and coach.

Listening to Low and Brice lick his jock right now. Good grief this is sad.

I'm in on Pruitt but just cause he sounds like a ball coach doesn't mean he is. 30-65 k is plenty good for spring game. Volnation showing up is about the last thing he needs to worry about.

Not to be “ that guy “ but i just read in another thread where we are the most loyal fan base in the country . I come here and you are preaching fan buy in and how important it is , giving examples or Dooley and Butch being paid to run it into the ground . My question is if our loyal fan based made it through Dooley and Butch and came out on the other side being the most loyal in the country .. why is the buy in so important ? And do you think because your skin is a tad thin over what he said it’s really going to effect anything one way or another ? It’s pretty simple he just wanted to see more of us loyal and happy fans yesterday .

When he is trying to tell recruits that Tennessee isn't the doormat they have grown up knowing it to be, yeah fans screaming in the stands sure helps him sell a sleeping giant.
