Pruitt not happy with Spring Game attendance

Yeah, i notice that trend as well. Iasked several times in this thread how many saban assistants are considered good, of course noone will answer.

Fisher has a national title. Truth be told, I've never been impressed by him. Don't ask me why. But, the resume is impressive

The best of the bunch IMO has been D'Antonio at Michigan State

Yeah, i actually asked for top teir then good. Kirby is good, flirting with top teir as well.

I thought I was the only one that felt that way about Jimbo . There’s no reason for it he’s done everything you could ask of a coach . I just never was wowed by him .

Already forgot about Kirby. Yeah, he'd have to be included despite how short his coaching tenure is at this point.

Also, forgot in the Meyer column, the coach at UTah Whittingham I believe was a Meyer assistant and I think you'd have to call him a success.

Not to be “ that guy “ but i just read in another thread where we are the most loyal fan base in the country . I come here and you are preaching fan buy in and how important it is , giving examples or Dooley and Butch being paid to run it into the ground . My question is if our loyal fan based made it through Dooley and Butch and came out on the other side being the most loyal in the country .. why is the buy in so important ? And do you think because your skin is a tad thin over what he said it’s really going to effect anything one way or another ? It’s pretty simple he just wanted to see more of us loyal and happy fans yesterday .
If he does want more of us, then he ought to build equity and endear himself to the fans. You can't want something and insult it in the same breath.

A new coach needs equity because he has a tough as hell job.

I live near Athens. Before last season Kirby was all over the radio, TV, and billboards challenging the ga fans to set a spring attendance record. He talked about how important the fans are. When he wasn't doing this himself he had the sports shows carry the water. Did Pruitt do any of this? Being at a distance I really don't have a clue.

I hoped whittingham would come to tennessee when we got butch

Of course he's trying to set a standard, good grief. All these people saying its just a meaningless glorified practice but are butthurt because Pruitt called them out on not attending.....because they've "been through so much"...are laughable.

They live close and instead of going to Neyland on a beautiful Saturday afternoon to see our new coach and staff play a little football, they go play golf. Well good, Idgaf, but don't cry when Pruitt calls you out. If you do, idiots like me are gonna laugh at you.

Lol at all of you.

Edit: Don't mean you. I know you were there. Kids enjoy it?

all good. and yeah, we had a great time. kids were a little bummed that right when they were going to get in one of the jump houses at vol village, the generator ran out of gas. those things deflate fast. lol.

but they liked the vol walk, got give JG, Chance Hall, and several other guys high fives.

still, i think they llike the hotel more than anything else....:p

If I had to bet money, I would guess that Fulmer or someone else has talked to Pruitt by now about being more careful not to say anything that can be interpreted as criticism of the fans. That's pretty much a no-brainer for a new, unproven head coach.

And that's why it's so bewildering that he said it. I get the point he was trying to make, but I think he kind of stepped in it a little bit. He's a football coach, not a PR dork.

This.

Saban can say that crap, but as of right now Pruitt needs to worry about his team and not the fans. The fans are much more of a lock than he is.

Well, that's right. Personally, I think Pruitt is a kind of football genius, meaning he focuses on football on a high level, at the cost of having deficiencies and blind spots in other areas. I'm ok with that, because I think he knows what he is doing, and he is what we need.

He tweeted(Seems like it was early last week.) something like, if you consider yourself a Vol fan you should be at the O&W game.

He knows we have more fans than the amount that was there yesterday. He knows many have prior engagements and responsibilities. He also knows that many fans are disgruntled with the past few years. He we trying to send out a challenge/invitation for those fans to bury the hatchet and support the program.

Many that were able to go decided not to go for one reason or another. Now that they have been called out about it, some don't like him calling out the fans. Even if he is right by asking, Why didn't those fans go to the game? Some don't think he has the right to question the fans.

I don't think he should have to ask or challenge Vol fans to go the O&W, they should go regardless.

Once you have won like that then you can do what you want. When you have 0 wins, you can’t. Thanks for making the point you were trying to defeat.

My point was is that it doesn't speak of being a so called rookie mistake. And some of Stoops fan base turned on him for the same thing. Stoops and CJP have one thing in common. Each was or is the HMF in charge. Period. Some of ya'll sound like LV BB fans b*tchin' about CHW and how they won't attend another game blah blah blah but yet still b*tching (and still attending).

That's bad advice to treat all the fans like a few expect to be treated. How many really are offended that he confronted some for not being there? A drop in the ocean worth. The few that admit to being lazy fans aren't even the ones that seem so offended.

Pruitt’s comments were laughable.

The only guarantees in life, CJP, are death, taxes, and Vol fans showing up.

Focus on things that aren’t sure things, like your team on the field.

CPJ would have not been upset with the fan turnout if it had been anywhere near the reported 65,000.
It looked to more like high 30's to low 40's in actual attendance.:mf_surrender:

Bottom bowl seemed full. Some peep went topside. A good fifty is nothing to complain about, imho.

Yeah, I don't know that there is much left to be said about this that has not already been said over and over again. I doubt there are many fans who are truly upset over his words. It's just that many will feel they were misguided and not very well thought-out. From a PR standpoint, it doesn't really matter how many were offended. It really matters whether or not it can be perceived negatively.

The one thing I have NOT seen posted here is that he (unwittingly, I think) made himself vulnerable to a charge of excuse-making. We don't get some of our big target commits? Well, they might have come here if more fans had shown-up at the O/W Game. We just got rid of a coach who a lot of fans viewed as an excuse-maker. We are going to be very aware of anything from Pruitt that sounds even remotely like an excuse.

What was actually said

Can't believe some here are soft enough to be offended by that. lol, buncha wienies

Wow! This thread almost turned into another episode of the real housewives of Tennessee football. Thanks for posting the entire statement. I’m sure one of these real “VFLs” on here will call finebaum on Monday about it.

I think the relevant part of the quote is probably, "It's kind of like our football team." He had already made it pretty clear that he wasn't happy with the football team.
