Pruitt not happy with Spring Game attendance

Kind of ironic to me that you’re complaining about coach Pruitt complaining

He wasn’t even really complaining. He said there were SOME fans who could’ve been there and weren’t. Is that really complaining? I just think y’all are being baby’s about this whole overblown quote.

What? I am responding to statements he made about the fans. I am a graduate of the school and spend money to attend games. It's a message board. Of course I can respond to his comments. If that means I am a "baby," then so be it. That's kind of childish to me.

You just don't go there as a new coach when the crowd wasn't any different than the last 20 years. Yesterday's attendance was no different than the past. Why even open yourself up to that? He's learning- that's all I can say.

Pruitt earned the right to complain the second he signed on to take over the s*** show called TN Vol Football. If it had been Gruden saying it, most would be salivating on him. Get over it, right now, according to his contract and his role with Vol FB, he's the HMF in charge. Until he proves otherwise, he's the man hired.

Would feel worse if it was Gruden because he really should know better.

But 5th nationally IS SHOWING UP. So do we call him out if we finish 5th in the final football poll this year? If we did, that would also be ridiculous. If 20k has shown up, then call them out. It’s really that simple as far as the point I am making.

This is how I feel.

That's my point. The man has plenty of problems to deal with in this program.

Creating another problem by ticking off some fans for not showing up to an overblown scrimmage is one he didn't need to create.

This is where he is going to have to grow as a head coach. Hope he learns from it. Sometimes it’s better to not say the first thing that pops in your mind. He probably didn’t see it as calling out the fans but fans are not rational in the SEC and he knows it.

Some will. 5th nationally was a disappointment in the Fulmer years.

The only people getting mad are ones with a guilty conscience that know they could have went and supported the team if they wanted to.

If was a carefully worded premeditated statement by Pruitt. I’m excited to see a coach with courage

It definitely was not the first thing to pop into his head. He planned the analogy.

I don't see it this way. As a coach, I think you cater to your fans instead of calling them out. Only established, successful coaches can normally get away with it.

All that said, it does not change my support for him. I think he is just learning on the job how to deal with these things as a head coach.

Wow butch really did a number on you.

So you should only suck up to fans until you make it, then you should be real with them?

This is probably the dumbest thing I’ve read all week

But 65,000 out of 102,455 is 63%. By the standards of excellence, it's a mediocre result. For instance: if we win 63% of our games, that's an 8-win regular season.

So are we striving for excellence, or pretty good? I'm pretty happy CJP is aiming for excellence in every aspect of the program.

Those who are sensitive to criticism will get over it, and will be among us in celebrating championships, one day.

Yep. :birgits_giggle:

Gruden has been the the top at the highest level as a head coach. Pruitt hasn't done anything yet as a head coach

He doesn’t need to learn anything. It’s only a small percentage of you snowflakes who were offended. To the rest of us, we’re just over here laughing at how offended y’all are.

"We've had a crappy winter/spring with coaching turmoil, players leaving, and a lot of angst. If players decided to do other things yesterday instead of giving every ounce of their energy and effort to win a meaningless spring game, good for them. Pruitt needs to check himself a little here. The guy simply has no business judging the motives of players."

Hmm.

We'd call for any player who made excuses like that to be shown the door. Let him go play for some community college, if he's not in it for excellence.

So much less is asked of us fans. All we have to do is show up to watch a sport we love anyway, on a nice day.

Doesn't sound like CJP was asking for anything but excellence, to me. And isn't that what we want in a coach, a pursuit of excellence in all aspects of the program?

I love your enthusiasm but it is a bit misguided. Pruitt doesn't need to be worrying about the fans just yet. Once again, it's a damn spring game.

Yes we want excellence which has no relevance whatsoever with the attendance at a meaningless spring game. The fans will be there when it counts.

We need Pruitt to coach the football team, not the fans

God I hate when young people invent new terms and old people adopt them (unless you're a millennial, RowdyTop).

Agreed

It really is just a small group of you guys who are offended that are making the most noise.

Get over it. The rest of us aren't blowing this out of proportion.

I've seen the word "snowflake" used roughly 92 times in this thread. Several of them by a poster who has been here about 15 minutes. Can't you people come up with a better term by now? It's a discussion board. If you don't like the discussion then move your asses along "snowflakes". Gee, I can't imagine those of us who didn't attend the game would have anything better to do than to drive to Knoxville to spend time around you and your lovely personalities.

Maybe Pruitt is the "snowflake" for low key complaining about fan attendance. Nope, can't be. He's bald and speaks like a hick so what he says goes.

What he said isn't really that big of a deal. But I find it odd more than anything and it shows he is very tone-deaf. He has no room for error. He has no room for ANY fans to be turning against him right now. He's never been a HC a day in his life, and he's going to call out THIS fanbase his ass better win big.

Your obsession over this is the dumbest thing. Has nothing to do with my support of him or the program. Just didn't think it was something he needed to say.

All I said that is that established coaches are ones that can get away with it, if they say it all.

Butch didn't do anything on me. Don't give us fluff, but don't call out the fans in your first spring game when the attendance was in par with the past. Find some middle ground and use some tact.

I think you snowflakes blew a one-line quote out of proportion.

If you want to "turn on him" because of a one-liner, then the rest of us will pick up the slack.

Glad that we can discuss this in a professional manner. You have no idea who I am or how many games I have been to.

I think you are the one that is offended. I haven't called anyone names and just don't agree with what he said.

Yeah 9% of the fanbase is offended by the quote. That's really a significant amount to start a revolt against Coach Pruitt.

Get a life.
