My assessment of Pruitt is that he will either be the guy that’s gets us back, or his tenure here will be polarizing, ugly and short. I’m honestly not sure which at this point. He inherits an ok roster, but a rotten, unforgiving environment. My take continues to be that he doesn’t have a honeymoon period from fans or recruits - no one we hired would after the Schianomo. He’s also very blunt, and that may rub folks the wrong way. Some fans and players truly will quit on him pretty early on. I’m also not sure he has the make up to handle the inevitable 45-10 beatings we will take against better completion (UGA, Bama). Going to be a fascinating next few months and years.

What's this? 30 new players on campus for the Fall. Pruitt dissatisfied with the effort of some of the team. Stage is set for a competitive camp.

Yeah, saw someone on twitter saying he’s criticizing the culture Butch left behind without saying it. Some of that culture is still in some of the players. Hope he can coach it out of them. If not, then they can go and make room for players who want to compete
You hit the nail on the head. It was a slight at Butch without calling him out. The culture at the end of his tenure was awful and it rubbed off on the fanbase. We may not win but 6 or 7 games next year but i'm gonna bet they'll be competitive games that we as fans are looking for. If we compete and I can see the snot come out of RB's nose from a good hit I'll be just fine. Just compete.

Well, I’m out for a while guys. Check back in in July or so.

The next few months will bring this:

- Several surprise transfers (Fant, Byrd?)

- Solid but unspectacular recruiting (he needs to win a big game or two to snag a top 10 class - the big names aren’t just going to jump in without seeing results IMO)

- Sparse updates on weight training, etc.

- maybe a nice grad transfer addition or two

I’m anxious to see how fall practice goes. This is somewhere between a 5 and an 8 win team, depending on how we adapt to Pruitt and whether we catch breaks and avoid injuries. We will be playing a lot of close ballgames this fall, but will also be on the receiving end of some blowouts.

Judging from some of the whining by some of our fans bc the coach wants more butts in the seats.... I would have to say that we have quite a few fragile fans.

When haven't we shown up? For spring games?

I'm bout to go Iverson in here.

Lol, anyone offended by that quote from Pruitt, better stop checking in on football for the next ___ number of years.
I have a feeling "good" will never be good enough for him. He wants excellence, and I'm just fine with that.

Other than his tendency to abuse the language (bless his bammer heart), I thought his comments were fine.

You want a championship program? Then act like the fans of a championship program. We have a lot of fans around here who like to talk about how they want/deserve better, how we need to step up our bagman game, how they've suffered over the last decade, but then won't make the trip to hang out in Neyland's Chapel with our ball team on a picture perfect April day.

The fanbase has been the only "excellence" this program has even sniffed for the last decade.

I'm glad he's demanding perfection, but I'll defend my own before I defend Pruitt right now. Just the way it is.

It was beautiful and I will have a tan when this red goes away

Most of us appreciate Pruitt's candor. But he's not walking into the kind of situation Kirby Smart did. Unfortunately, he came too late in the cycle of failed coaches for fans to have blind faith in another rebuild. If recruiting picks up, fans will get more excited.

Recruits and fans are all in wait and see mode right now. Our Vols have been "on the rise," or "getting back to where we used to be" for 10 years now. That said, I'm not sure there's another program out there that would seat 65,000 for a spring game coming off a 4 win season.

And I just want to take a second to give a shoutout to a specific poster:

Big Gucci Sosa

Wasn’t long ago that probably half this board was ready to put you on ignore. What a turnaround.

Great poster now. Brings info. Engages in discussion.

A true asset to the board.

:hi:
