Fair points, except that Kirby filled the stadium in year 1. If coach wants us to help, we should help in any way we can imo.

Kirby was making a home coming as a former UGA player who had been in the national limelight as the Bama DC for most Saban’s tenure. He was a top choice as HC for many UGA fans. They also wanted to see Jacob Eason, after all the hype on him.

We finished 4-8, had the worst coaching search in the history of college football and while we wound up with a very solid hire (I like Pruitt), our HC was not the first or second (or third, fourth or fifth) choice of any Tennessee fan going back to when the search started. Given Pruitt has not engaged with the fans the way Butch did and canceled the autograph session, I’d say getting 60k+ was very solid. Folks really want Pruitt to succeed here.

There wasn't a lot of excitement today. It wasn't a great gameday atmosphere and the crowd wasn't all that pumped up. The whole day felt flat. It's going to take some winning to get the excitement back.

Tennessee fans don't owe him anything; we've paid our dues. We showed up in a d**n monsoon to watch our team get embarrassed last season. He's the one needs that needs to prove his mettle.

Like I said, win 8 games and get a top 5 class. I'm done with the blind support. No one in the program (except Fulmer) has earned it.

EDIT: on second thought, this is a bit harsh. But the reality w/ this program right now is that a lot of us need to see vast improvement at every level of the AD before we buy in again. Rick Barnes quietly persevered and earned it. Pruitt needs to do the same.

So... UT turned out 60K for a spring game to watch a not very good team play coming off the worst year in the history of the program after a decade of disappointment. The coaches should thank the fans who were loyal enough to show up. They wouldn't have had 20K at most programs.

That’s not how Pruitt thinks though.

Our former coach would have thanked the fans, Jeremy expects more. He also expects more from his players and his coaches. He’s consistent in his message. Excellence all around and he ain’t about excuses on why we aren’t there yet.

And he wasn’t Mark Richt

Kirby was a first time coach and GA fans filled the stadium up. I get it, it’s been a rough 10 years, it’s been awful. But that isn’t his fault. I like that we finished 5th in the country in attendance and he’s upset we weren’t first. All he cares about is winning, even the attendance battle

Totally different circumstances. First, Mark Richt was better than any coach we've had since Fulmer. Second, Kirby was a GA boy, coming home. Third, the Vols are on their 4th coach since Fulmer was fired. That's 4 coaches in 9 years. This fan base as a whole is very sceptical and will be until they see the results on the field. Recruiting is meh at this point. Pruitt himself is down on the roster. Not much to get excited about. Many fans I've talked to are "Call me when we're relavent."

But we aren’t most programs. We’re Tennessee. I think that’s Pruitts point. He expects excellence and so should our fans. 65k isn’t excellence. It’s not bad but it’s not 102k.

Pruitt didn't live through the he'll of the last 10 years. It's not his fault that TN has been the most dysfunctional athletic department in the country over the last 15 years. It is what it is. TN fans have about given up on ever having a dominate program again. If Pruitt doesn't get us back, I hate to think what will become of the once mighty Vols.

I'll say this, though: it's good that Pruitt is pissed, even if I think his ire is misplaced

Anger can a great motivator, no matter what Yoda says.

I worked today so I missed it but 2 of my Vol buddies didn’t even watch it (I scolded them of course)and they’re as diehard as they come. That’s probably the way most vol fans feel these days. Hell I remember listening to it on the radio when they didn’t put it on tv. We fans have been through a lot. If you build it we will come.

You guys have taken Coach Pruitt's words out of context. "I thought the Vol walk was spectacular. The ones that were here I'm proud they were here. They're fired up they're ready to get going. And then there were some people that weren't here that had legitimate reasons they couldn't be here and then there were some people that weren't here that..why weren't they here? It's kind of like our football team. So I think we ALL need to look in the mirror and see who we want to be."
I don't have a problem with that statement from coach. The bar isn't just set for the team it's set for us as fans as well. I'll take that sort of criticism from a coach who wants to be here.

Sixty thousand loyal fans got off their asses and came out today. It wasn't an exciting gameday atmosphere. The team was flat. The game was boring. Yet the fans stayed. UT fans are the best fans in the country. It's incredible how much support the team continues to have, and I can't believe ANYONE has anything negative to say about the fans.

I loved the comments and felt they were timely. Better now than during the season. Remember when Saban called out the fans for leaving before the game was over in a blowout against a nobody. That’s was cool. Reminded me of Arkansas 1998. Hoards of fans were filing out. Me and a friend moved down towards front row of the end zone where Stoner fumbled. Fans came running back in. I do t like Alabama or Saban, but you can’t deny he expects full buy in from fans. Glad Pruitt learned that from him

I was there because I’ll never give up a chance to be in Neyland but I’ll be honest the actual game is pretty boring. It’s hard to get into it because of having no rooting interest. I was just hoping no one got hurt and it’s hard to get excited because if there’s a big play then half your team didn’t play well.

Coach was asked when was the last time he's coached a team where players didn't show up or compete. He literally had to pause and think about it and said about 20yrs ago. He is literally having to teach kids how to compete, how to freakin practice properly and put forth effort. That's a damn shame.

Judging from some of the whining by some of our fans bc the coach wants more butts in the seats.... I would have to say that we have quite a few fragile fans.

Yeah, saw someone on twitter saying he’s criticizing the culture Butch left behind without saying it. Some of that culture is still in some of the players. Hope he can coach it out of them. If not, then they can go and make room for players who want to compete
